Spring Training 2016 - Florida Edition (1 Viewer)

This year I plan on finally visiting Kissemee area for st. Any of you guys ever do the pilgrimage? I'm thinking first or second week of March. Advise or tips appreciated. Thinking of maybe doing a weekly rental somewhere near the camp, other camps and interesting things to do. Pretty much hated Florida from my previous trips there...

Did a tour back in 2003 and again in 2005. Seems like the landscape has changed a bit, but I'll share my experiences.

Both times I set up came in Central Florida (Lake Buena Vista area). That allowed me to get to either coast without too much of a hassle, sprinting over to either I-75 or I-95.

I planned my days out in advance to try to optimize the amount of games I could catch and minimize the daily travel.

Some things to consider:

-- If you're looking to see certain star players, your best bet is to catch them at a "home game." They do occasionally travel, but those trips are hard to predict.

-- Check the schedule for the rare ST night game. If you can find them and pair with a day game going on at a camp nearby, you can pull off two games in the same day.

-- Be aware that most teams give their star players the day off on Sunday.

-- Avoid split squad contests. You may end up watching a bunch of non-roster invitees.

-- Cardinals and Marlins share a complex in Jupiter, which gives you a chance to knock out a couple of teams at once.

I really enjoyed this. Let me know if I can help with any specifics.

Thanks RnR.

I really really hate the Orlando area, so I'm looking into staying around Melbourne Beach. Its about 50 miles away and looks like some nice untouristy, beachfront spots about 10 miles down A1A from there.

Anyone familiar with that (Melbourne) area? I've never been

I enjoy driving and listening to audiobooks or podcasts, so driving 70-90 minutes to get to the park doesn't bother me.

And what about spring break? When do those maniacs hit the beach?

I'm thinking March 8-15

Heading down the 3rd week in March. Will be in St. Cloud area which is ~ 30 min outside of Orlando. Only down for 5 days but hitting up 3 games. Tigers/Braves (Disney), Stros/Nats (Viera) and Mets/Yanks in Tampa.

Only negative is the DET/ATL game. It's a split squad for DET and away to boot. They'll be a bunch of nobodies on the field.

Nats play in Viera which is right next to Melbourne if I'm not mistaken. So you should definitely check out the Nats' schedule if you're looking to stay in Melbourne area.

Hope that helps
