So I gave $20/40 a shot and had a tough session the other day(lost $3200)...its funny- you guys probably think I do even better than I do because whenever I win I'm pretty excited to come here and blog, but when I lose I never feel like it. I'll include two hands from that night that I thought were interesting....
Hand of the Day #1
At $10/20. I raise KTs in MP/LP to $80. LP and SB calls. Both are regulars from the Bellagio, no real reads on them yet, although LP has shown to be very loose with preflop calls even out of position. Furthermore I think I have a slightly aggressive image and may get called down by less than normal at this time. LP has a little under $3000, BB has about $4000, I have them covered.
Flop comes K23 rainbow. SB checks, I bet $120(maybe too small), both call.
Turn is a T of hearts, putting two hearts on the board and giving me two pair. I bet $320, LP calls, SB folds.
River is 7 of hearts. I bet $800, LP goes all in for about $1500 more. The king on the flop was not a heart and my king is not a heart(so he could have something like KQ of hearts). Your move.
What I did
I called. He showed A5 of hearts and won, I mucked.
What I think I should've done
I'm getting just under 3-1. I don't think he'd flat call with a set with some draws out there on the turn and us deep enough that if I check the river then he has no chance of getting all my chips. Obviously its the flush I'm worried about, but obviously he wasn't drawing to only runner runner on the flop. Something like 45 of hearts of Kx of hearts is what I'm scared of. What hands is he pushing all in with here? Based on my reads I gave, he may be doing this with a rivered 2 pair like K7. Would he really bluff with a missed 45? Looking back, I think I should've folded this although the pot odds do make it interesting.
Hand of the Day #2
Playing $20/40 now. Villian is an older guy who is a regular from the Bellagio. I have played 2 hands with him in the past where he has stood up to me initially(either by calling or raising on the flop) but folded on a later street.....so he may be getting tired of me doing this. He will rarely bluff imo, he will bet big on his big hands but he'll also overvalue his big hands at times. He would limp a big hand from any position preflop for deception.
I have 97s in the SB. 2 limpers, I complete, BB checks.
Flop comes 974 with 2 hearts. I lead out $120, BB folds, limper folds, villian makes it $520. Villian has about $5000 behind. Whats your move?
What I did
I raised to $1600.
What I think I should've done
He could have an overpair in which case I'm in decent shape. Or he could have a huge draw. I don't really mind flat calling. By raising, I'm pretty much set to play for his entire stack. Any set obviously is a concern. I don't mind raising here with the intention of calling a reraise or pushing the turn if a blank falls.
He flat called. The turn is a 9 giving me the absolute nuts. He has a little under $4000 left. Your move.
What I did
I bet $1600, he folded.
What I think I should've done
Obviously I'm a bit upset at not getting any value here. Any smaller bet looks suspicious though, so the only other option is to check it....but hes most likely checking anything except 44 or the case 77 here and if he has an overpair or a straight flush draw then he does have 2 outs. Against some opponents there may be some value in checking both the turn and river and hoping they bluff, but I don't think thats true against him. Its kinda funny- its the perfect turn for me, but it also kinda killls my action. Not really sure what I could've done here to get any more from him.
Anyway, as I said ended up down $3200 that night. Sick brag from the next night(last night) though: Went and played $10/20 and lost $1300 on the night....we were going out to Blush at 1:30, so some friends and I went to $1/3 NL to drink and mess around.....and in one hour at $1/3 I stacked 5 people and made $1500 to end up winning on the night. I seriously had the best image ever(sitting with $$30K and blind raising a few hands will do that for you I guess) and was getting paid off on everything....I had AA and a guy called me down for his entire $300 stack with AQ on a board of rags(7889 rainbow I believe when the money got all in). I was open raising to $60 with my big hands and getting multiple callers. Actually felt bad for one guy when I hit a set of kings, checked the flop and he hit a set of jacks on the turn(although why oh why couldn't that have happened at $20/40??!!!!).
In other news, I can't go to a strip club drunk(where we ended up at the end of last night) without spending a ton of money....I know thats not shocking news to anyone, but its like I even say beforehand that I just want to sit there and chilll and not spend more than $100 or so.....never ever ever ever ever happens. I'm seriously completely powerless to any female when I've been drinking. I think I need to take things easy for a while and just concentrate on poker, as I'm spending nearly all my profits partying these days. A few months ago I was so focused on saving up and building my bankrolll....want to get back into that mindset.
