Roverkid update: (TL; DR version--not good).

She's seeing a sports medicine concussion specialist, a sports nutritionist and a neuropsychologist.   Post-concussion symptoms haven't changed.   She has lost 16 lbs from the 108 she was at when she got the concussion.   The nutritionist believes that this has morphed from weight loss due to nausea as a symptom of the concussion to a full-blown eating disorder, and wants her to go to a residential treatment program.  She also thinks that her weight loss and nutrition issues are contributing to her (non)recovery from the concussion.   She has appointments with all three providers next week, and we'll make a decision on what to do after that.

In the meantime, she's still living with me full time, going to online school, and is generally depressed.  She's taking a class on Saturday in Seattle that is a prerequisite to a music program that our friend recommended to us (he's a professional musician).   We're also scheduled for a spring break trip to NYC in April, and taking a friend of hers with us.

I'm buried at work and am just about at my saturation point.  Something needs to give.   Talked to my partner today about bringing on another attorney to help with some work, even if it's on a part-time contract basis.

Jeez.   Good luck, man and keep on doing the right things.

Damn.  Sorry, man.  If I can help, let me know.

I think I can actually motion in to Washington, but I wouldn't need to do that or get paid to help.  If you need someone to just look into some research issues or something, I've got some free time the next few weeks anyway.

Have a case where everyone put all the depositions off until the end.  We're looking at 30 or so depositions in the next 6 weeks.   I think I just need a warm body in the chair for some of these.   One of the guys I helped train up years ago that has gone solo will probably be willing to do it.

No doubt.  Plus, that's only... what, twelve per week?  Three? One?  If I could do math I would have gone to medical school.

just 5 a week or so.   roverkid is currently going to about 3 doctor appointments a week and we're out for spring break, but my partner is a workhorse and we can get someone to help out on a contract basis.

our firm is doing really well, which is a blessing and a curse right now.  I don't have the time to take time off, but I have to figure it out somehow, since it isn't an option not to.   I have 2 cases ramping up and three with trial dates this summer.   only one of those looks like it should settle soon.  my cases are usually 2-3 week trials, so  each one essentially takes me offline for everything else for about 6 weeks.   my calendaring skills suffer from the same math problem you have.

How much of what’s stretching you thin can be taken over by someone doing your briefing and trial writing?  Seems like you’d want someone to do the other stuff and you run the trials.  Some nerd near you has an appellate practice like mine and you two would solve a lot of problems for each other.

It's the mundane mechanical stuff that I need someone to do.   Doc review, sitting in depositions, discovery...    It may be time to hire an associate, underpay them and work them like a dog.

Breaks my heart reading this.  At some point things are going to turn in Roverkids favor and it sounds like you are doing everything possible to make it happen. One thing I learned the hard way was to get a second opinion.  It’s sucks scheduling another appointment and all the #### that goes along with it but it was critical for my daughter.

Hang in there and keep fighting the good fight.

She's seen her primary, a sports medicine concussion specialist, a neurologist, a vestibular physical therapist, a nutritionist and a neuropsychologist.   she's also in a long-term concussion study that's a joint study between two local hospitals.  what I've learned is that they don't know #### about the causes of long term concussion symptoms, and they don't have any real solutions.

Simply managing those appointments has to be a nightmare. Much respect to you from this anonymous message board guy

Thanks.  It's very frustrating and in this whole process my ex wife and daughter mutually decided that she shouldn't spend time at their house anymore, so she's full time with me.

@-fish- what type of music...one of the benefits of the UWS is having a kid in a school where a bunch of the Juilliard/Met orchestra parents send their kid (the mom of his best friend is this piano player Link) Point being, I might be able to make an/some introductions if that’s her thing.

UPMC Sports Medicine here in Pittsburgh has a pretty good, from what I hear, Concussion program.  I know Dale Earnhardt Jr came here to be treated and has done a commercial for the program.  Not saying that it is the be all end all.  Also, not sure how much overlap there is with the current program your daughter is in. But it may be something to think about.

Took my daughter to swimming lessons last night, and as I was waiting in the hallway for her to finish drying off and changing there were some high school volleyball players sitting in the hallway stretching before their practice or whatever.   Their conversation was about how they all purposely did bad on their baseline/standardization/preseason concussion test, or whatever it is called.  They were all proud that they knew to do bad on that so that if they did get a concussion it would appear less severe since their baseline was horrible.  I am hoping they didn't learn that from a coach or parent.  Given everything Roverkid is going through, trying to purposely lessen the assumed seriousness of a concussion seems like a horrible idea for a teenage developing brain.

She's a vocalist.  She's also played guitar for several years, but that's more of a hobby.

Thanks.  Looking through their approach, it seems very similar to what she's getting here, which is a positive.

No real dignity to the story, unfortunately. I was outside with my son and horsing around in the snow. I slipped on some ice and faceplanted into the sidewalk. I have a huge black eye, mild concussion that gave me crazy vertigo for a few days, the swelling around my eye is bad enough that it's pressing against a batch of nerves in my cheek and causing some numbness along the cheek, left side of my nose, and left side of my upper lip. i had a MRI today because there is some question of bone(s) broken around the eye socket, cheek, and/or brain pan.

i'm mostly feeling like myself except for the numbness thing. my boy tells me I'm no longer able to call myself "pretty" after this.
Quick update here for those interested. Got the MRI back and met with a neurologist. Concussion symptoms are still around - momentary and unexpected woozy feeling really - but they are gone as quick as they come. A few seconds and they pass. Neuro says they should be gone in a few more weeks. Numbness or loss of sensation on the left upper lip, left cheek and left upper teeth is still around but seems to be coming back slowly. I think I can feel my left nostril, for example. Black eye is mostly gone and the swelling along with it.

Thanks for the concern but I'm a tough SOB that can take a beating.

That doctor is the premier concussion doctor who has pioneered current treatment methods

Since I've been caught up in my Epic Beatles Thread, I haven't been here as much, but I read along and, even though stryker correctly stated it's implied, I'm sending my TPW to my GBs here.  You're like family to me, except I like you.

Honestly it's been an awful 2019 for me so far, but we'll all get through our various travails.  Let's have a coshole or two this year.  It's time.

any chance that a "why don't we disband the catholic church because of all these pedo priests?" thread lasts more than 3 minutes? there a better way to rephrase that?
I'm patiently waiting for one of the formerly diddled to actually become Pope (which, considering it seems like 8 out of 10 of these priests are of the handsy variety anymore, won't be long) and have him do exactly that.  "My first act as sitting Pope?  All you pedos lose the kingdom.  GTFO, now.  Second act?  Shut it down, folks.  Show's over." *drops miter*

It’s Tampa Beer Week and  whole lotta other #### going on here this weekend so Tampa is pretty much full.  I couldn’t get a registration for the Skyway Bridge 10k (very big and tall bridge) this year so I volunteered for it.  Have to be on the bridge at 4 am tomorrow.  Have to leave my house around 2 am.  Ugh.

My hotel searches for this weekend can confirm this.

That place you recommended appears to be booked for at least eternity.

Bummer.  You might wanna check St. Pete or Clearwater (maybe even Sarasota area).  Sounds like lots of northerners neeed a break from Winter

Ok. So I'm guessing krista needs to unplug for a bit after her Herculean effort in the Beatles' thread.

I know nothing about Seattle. Are there the kind of rentals like they have in the Outer Banks - 10 bedroom houses with a bunch of kitchens/decks, etc...?
