Dropping Coverage - Uninsured Grows By 2 Million (1 Viewer)

It seems like this is trending in the wrong direction. Is it wrong to think that maybe changes to this are needed? This study seems to indicate that right?

The uninsured rate among U.S. adults rose from record lows of 10.9 percent in the last part of 2016 to 11.7 percent in the second quarter of 2017, according to the Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index published Monday.

"Rising insurance premiums could be causing some Americans to forgo insurance, especially those who fail to qualify for federal subsidies," the survey said.

"Furthermore, some insurance companies are leaving the ACA marketplace, and the lack of competition could be driving up the cost of plans for consumers."

Not an expert, but it seems apparent that young/healthy people will be most likely to decline coverage and risk a penalty under the ACA given the fact they can sign up later with guaranteed coverage for any condition they may develop.  I didn't follow along in the threads here or other debates, so assume this issue was hammered ad nauseum. Its like being able to buy car insurance after an accident.  At the same time, it makes sense costs would go up for older/unhealthier people who buy the coverage.

The federal government is no longer forcing everyone to buy their version of health insurance.  The horror.

The "Affordable" Care Act will take some time to fix.

All our healthcare problems will be solved come tomorrow.   Save your witty posts for another thread where they will serve a greater purpose.

The exchanges were costing the insurance companies millions - it wasn't sustainable, so the big ones moved out.  Combine that with it being more cost effective for young people to opt out, and you get a pool of fat diabetics that smoke so it's a lose / lose for almost everyone.

Obamacare attacked the problem from the wrong side and to be fair, they knew it at the time. Front end prevention, nutrition, and exercise education is the only way to keep costs from truly spiraling out of control while managing conditions for those that it's too late for as far as prevention.  Obamacare added a bandage to a gaping wound, but it's still gushing blood.
