Thankfully this thing didn't explode as designed.

and crazy somebody took a picture of it pre-detonation. (see link)

per BBC:

An "improvised explosive device" was detonated on a Tube train in south-west London during Friday's morning rush hour, Scotland Yard has confirmed.

The blast, at Parsons Green station on a District Line train from Wimbledon, is being treated as terrorism.

Twenty-two people have been treated in hospitals, mostly for burns, though at least eight have now been discharged.

A hunt for the person who placed the device is under way and the area around the station has been evacuated.

Specialist officers have been securing the remains of the improvised device and ensuring it is stable.

Prime Minister Theresa May condemned the "cowardly" attack, which she said had "intended to cause significant harm".

She said the UK's terror threat level would remain at severe - the second highest - but would be under review.

Speaking in Downing Street after chairing a meeting of the Cobra emergency committee, she said there would be an increased armed police presence on the transport network in London.

Hundreds of detectives and MI5 are investigating the attack, which took place at 08:20 BST on an eastbound train.

Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley earlier refused to say whether anyone had been arrested.

....

BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner said the bomb appeared not to have gone off.

Had it worked as intended, it would have killed everyone around it and maimed everyone in the train carriage for life, he said.

Yeah this could have been a LOT worse.  A few minutes more and that train goes underground on its way towards Westminster Abbey and Parliament.

Scotland Yard said something similar. Better now?
no. same.

thankfully this has been somewhat less terrorific due to the failure of the device... but still info to be learned and gleaned prior to eventual political BS implosion. starting it in post #2 doesn't help.

The UK terror threat has been increased to its highest level as police continue the hunt for the person behind the Tube bombing in south-west London.

The prime minister said the threat was now critical, meaning an attack is expected imminently, after a device was detonated at Parsons Green station.

Police said some 1,000 armed officers would be seen across the country after military assistance was requested.

So-called Islamic State has said it was behind the attack, which injured 29.

Mrs May said the military would be providing support to police and would replace them on guard duties at certain sites that are not accessible to the public.

These will include Buckingham Palace, Downing Street, embassies and the Palace of Westminster and will enable armed officers to carry out patrols, the Met said.

The use of the military to assist police has been done under the first phase of Operation Temperer, a government plan to deploy troops to help police following major terrorist attacks, which was activated for the first time on 23 May following the Manchester Arena attack.

Mrs May said: "The public will see more armed police on the transport network and on our streets, providing extra protection.

"This is a proportionate and sensible step which will provide extra reassurance and protection while the investigation progresses."

Twenty-nine people have been treated in hospitals, mostly for burns, following the attack at 08:20 BST on the eastbound District Line train from Wimbledon.

Given the CC coverage in London, I'm surprised they haven't released images of the suspect yet. Or maybe there withholding to find accomplices

Arrest made of 18yo.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in Dover over the Parsons Green tube explosion which injured 29 people.

Met Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said that the arrest was "significant", but added: "Although we are pleased with the progress made, this investigation continues and the threat level remains at critical."

The man was arrested by Kent Police in the port area of Dover on Saturday morning, under section 41 of the Terrorism Act. Numerous passenger and commercial ferries travel from Dover to Dunkirk and Calais in France each day.

He remains in custody at a local police station and will be transferred to a south London police station in due course.

A manhunt was launched after a device in a bucket exploded on a rush hour District Line train on Friday morning, forcing passengers to flee in panic.

Prime Minister Theresa May subsequently raised the country's terror threat to "critical", while armed police have been deployed across the capital's streets and train stations.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said: "We have made a significant arrest in our investigation this morning. Although we are pleased with the progress made, this investigation continues and the threat level remains at critical.

"The public should remain vigilant as our staff, officers and partners continue to work through this complex investigation. We are not, at this time, changing our protective security measures and the steps taken to free up extra armed officers remain in place.

"This arrest will lead to more activity from our officers. For strong investigative reasons we will not give any more details on the man we arrested at this stage."

The Met said 45 witnesses have been spoken to and 77 images and videos have been sent to detectives by members of the public.
