70 Years of Chinese Communism (1 Viewer)

President Trump congratulated the Chinese government this morning for the 70th anniversary of their bloody, murderous totalitarian regime.

I don’t have a problem with it. Any President would have issued the same statement. I’m glad we’re on good diplomatic terms with this country that is now the second most powerful on Earth and our main economic rival.

But all the same we shouldn’t celebrate too loudly. How long, how many more decades are the poor Chinese people going to suffer under this miserable dictatorship? China is rightfully proud of the fact that they are the oldest civilization on Earth, but during all that time they have never enjoyed the key principle of our own form of government: individual liberty. The one tiny place where they’ve had it is Hong Kong, thanks to a previous 150 years of British rule, and the Chinese government is trying to crush that.

I’m an optimist. Communism isn’t just a bad economic system; it’s evil. Someday this current government of China will be washed away, and hopefully  freedom will take its place.

It's pretty bad. And we've been pushing them out of communism the whole time. It's really ridiculous for someone who claims he fighting against 'socialism'.

Tens of thousands of protestors on the streets of Hong Kong and the Chinese government is firing tear gas. This will not end well.

Trump has nothing on his official schedule today (seriously), I think HT is suggesting that Trump is screwing around with his social media rather than doing actual President stuff all day, which is actually IMO a good point.

The United States is at least partially responsible for this 70 year old regime. As the late David Halberstam relates in his masterful work on 20th century American media, The Powers That Be, Henry Luce, the publisher of Time Magazine (and born in China to American missionaries) was a tremendous admirer of Chiang Kai Shek. As a result, when our diplomats recommended we pressure Chiang to fulfill his promise to FDR of democratic  elections, Luce used his great power, known as the “China Lobby” to get our government to resist bugging Chiang in any way, and instead give him whatever he wanted. Chiang clamped down on all moderate opposition, which in turn empowered the Communists to better oppose him. This was one of a century of terrible mistakes we made with regard to China.

I have been to China a number of times for work and the majority of the people don`t know any better or any other type of life and are basically afraid of their govenment.  That is why China is having such a hard time in Hong Kong as they already know how much better life is and can be.

70 Years of Chinese Communism Totalitarianism

FTFY

They are fake communists (not that I think real ones are good). Their wealth gap rivals ours and is only growing. They've also got one hell of a debt bubble, but most of that debt is internal.

Yesterday, i waxed poetic on Carter's 95th b'day and, in the evening, watched the season premiere of PBS Frontline and their report on MBS & Khashoggi. Now Jimmuh ruined his presidency by his refusal to indulge despots & extremists in Iran, but there's something entirely unAmerican about not only not using our trading power to liberalize totalitarian regimes but now indulging the globes most dangerous troublemakers based on the bottom line.

Your hero Obama is a communist

I don’t think either you or the writer of that trash has any clue what Communism is.
You definitely don’t have a clue on much of anything. The writer made clear points that prove Obama is a communist. Pelosi Schiff and other criminal liberals are helping communist China right now by starting another collusion delusion while we are in a trade war. Way to support the enemy timmy.

I can’t wait to inform @NCCommish and other progressives around here that Obama was a Communist all along, as your columnist “clearly proves.”

For your own sake, get away from the alt-right websites. You’re being manipulated and fed lies.

For your own sake, get away from the alt-right websites.
LifeSiteNews is not an alt-right website. It's an old-school ultraconservative outfit out of Canada. They used to specialize in anti-Catholic and anti-LGBT rhetoric but lately they've been branching out.

The irony of all this is that outfits like LifeSiteNews are ultimately opposed to trading with China. On a fundamental level, they oppose anything that legitimizes or funds the Chinese government. If any Democrat had tried to negotiate a mutually-beneficial trade deal with China, the ultraconservatives would have gone ballistic. But since Trump has an R next to his name, they have to betray their own beliefs to justify his pro-Communist actions.
