I found this one very similar to Snowpiercer.

Did you see the American version? Doesn't compare

Don't forget Naked Gun 33 1/3! He actually was in more heralded films like Escape from Alcatraz and The Right Stuff (and what I think was the 1st NC-17 American theatrical release in Henry & June, also starring the French girl from Pulp Fiction).

One of my absolute favorite films. Did not consider it for horror

Easily the best sequel of this franchise. Nice to look back and see Patricia Arquette and Lawrence Fishburne. Not too scary but pretty fun

Great character-building and mood-building in this one, with just the right amount of humorous moments peppered in. It's probably in my top 10 of most watched horror movies and is the last in the string of unmissable M. Night Shyamalan movies ( the next two go off a cliff and it's been hit and...

I think pretty highly of The Strangers. It takes the time to establish the main characters and unease between them for entirely unrelated reasons, which plays into what happens next and how they react. Once The Strangers appear, it becomes unrelenting in a very unnerving way.

Second that, watch the original, NOT the American remake. I also agree with going in blind, so I will refrain from describing anything. Just see it

This is such a fun movie. I didn't consider it for the horror list, but I can see how it fits. Prime John Carpenter and a surprisingly stellar performance from Rowdy Roddy Piper in the lead role

In general, that's true but I'd be amazed if her film outranks his on this list

I would love to see that footage as well. A pre-code classic that probably could not have been made in any other era. Would have made my Top 100

FFA Top 200 Horror Movies of All Time: #93 - The Hitcher

I didn't list either but somewhat surprised that the original ranked higher than the sequel, given the hype machine the sequel had for being so good on a small budget. IIRC, it was the lowest budget movie - horror or otherwise - to crack the weekly Top 10 at the box office in over a decade...

Sounds like one I ought to watch... without the wife, for the reasons you stated

I can't speak to the book, other than I'm glad the film omitted one controversial episode from the book (haven't read it, just heard about it).
