I’d say that’s not the new normal. It might just be a minor change that you need to address or adapt to. You could try the heel drops while standing on a stair. More generally, I have a few minute routine to stretch and maintain flexibility. I do one routine in the morning before I get out...

You talking running or biking? You mention both. I’d say the key is muscle strength, and for that, I’d suggest short accelerations …short surges.

British 10 year old girl will be youngest Chess grandmaster ever; just defeated world champion

@Sand , @Psychopav - take note. This will be new excuse as I keep losing to both of you in our ongoing games.

High heat/high humidity is always a difficult situation. For me that’s marathons in Minocqua, WI (2013) and Fox Valley, IL (2024). In terms of pure misery, there’s the “windy car wash” Marine Corps Marathon in 2019 (but my PR race) and Boston in 2015 (16?) when the conditions were mid-40...

It should be a mess in Grand Rapids this morning for their marathon. For last week’s Chicago runners, today is steady rain and rather strong winds. You boys got lucky!

To back up - @ChiefD, great to hear the reports from Wisconsin!!! So glad the kids are thriving. Somebody raised them well. As to the back, check out Kristie Ennis’ short videos on YT. You might find one that addresses your back issues.

Not ideal! I’d suggest focusing on your HR, as that will be the most objective measure of how you’re handling the conditions. If the HR cooperates, then just HTFU.

    FBG Prayer Intention Thread

Hey GB. I've got a prayer request for you: In December, I had brain surgery for removal of a tumor (it had manifested with some focal seizures on my left side motor skills). Subsequent diagnosis is that I have GBM (glioblastoma multiforme). As the attending physician said to me with the...

    Official FBG BLUES thread

After moving to the Chicago suburbs three years ago, I picked up on the radio station at the College of DuPage (largest CC in the state). It’s mostly jazz, but they have some enjoyable themes on their evening broadcasts. Saturday evening and through until early Sunday morning it’s all blues...

Yeah, now the Mariners have Skubal - road - road - Skubal (on regular rest). They need to win three of those.

First of all - 😞. As to the solution, just allow the aging process move you to new AGs. Yes, you’ll be older. But I’ve found the trend line of my marathons has been sloping down as I gain more experience in training for and running the distance.
