They should maybe be looking to trade people away. From the outside it looks that way.
But, players on the team want to win, sending away assets or not doing whatever you can to get W's in the short term can kill a locker room and coach/player relationships forever.

He'll never make that mistake again, illogical to cut him based purely on that error. If his play was bad it's a perfectly valid excuse to cut him but it's a freakish, once in a career error.
Winston would be a bad choice. It'd be fun for fantasy but he isn't going to make them a more winning team in any real sense. Might as well just tank and secure draft capital.
They'd be much better off with a boring game manager like Garappolo. They need to minimise the errors the QB is making...
