“You can’t judge premodern people by postmodern standards of morality, because at that rate you won’t have a history.” (1 Viewer)

Worries about the coronavirus pandemic had failed to dissuade Gavin Wax, 26, from planning the protest. “This is about much more than a statue,” Mr. Wax, the president of the New York Young Republicans Club said. “You can’t judge premodern people by postmodern standards of morality, because at that rate you won’t have a history.”

Mr. Wax said, “We have to calm down and say that nobody sees racism in this statue. If you do, you have to look into yourself and not other people.”

We were told that when large amounts of people gather to protest that the Coronavirus will ignore them and move on to those in shopping malls, gas stations and beaches.

Also, people still read The NY Times?  Wow.

We were told that the trump rally in Tulsa caused a major increase so I’m confused. Do protests spread virus or not ?.
The protests caused coronavirus cases to decline while the Trump rally caused cases to increase.  It’s like there are larger forces at play here.

It’s possible.

Also seems people used reports and contract tracing to determine what they did about Tulsa.

People started off as very primative and we continually grow and progress.  It is quite ridiculous to ignore great accomplishments of people who were responsible for that progression because they failed today's standards.  Every step of progress is fought for and the people responsible deserved to be honored for that greatness.

I agree with the sentiment.  We all have sins in our past, some worse than others.  While, I don't think we should be revering people for those sins (Confederate statues should come down in public areas), I don't understand why we can't celebrate the good people have done simply because they weren't perfect; especially when considering the social evolution that has taken place since those sins were committed.
