I've kind of concluded the same, in some areas. His camp reports are good because getting someone who has eyes there everyday has value, but have found I do not trust his player evaluations very much at all.

Dupree is very likely to become a 3 down backer with a catholic church ceiling. The kid needs to learn better technique and be consistent.

Exactly. He's great for this, and he's great for day-to-day stuff during the season because he's at the facility all the time/has nearly the "connectedness" that Bouchette does as it appears he had built some good relationships with a handful of the veteran players(some of which are gone now, so maybe that takes a hit too. We'll see).

He's good at his actual job(reporting what he sees/hears). He's pretty bad at pretending to be an evaluator of talent.

Teach him technique/moves and he could be scary good. Porter is just the man for the job.

Watching Dupree on Draft Breakdown is frustrating. Kentucky had him read and react a lot. Which is important, but it's no fun. When they turned him loose, and when he reacted, he got there in a hurry. Jeremiah said he spoke to a coach who said they never worried about Dupree as a rusher, because Kentucky never had him rush.

I'm amazed that people who write stuff like : "The Steelers have secondary needs.... so naturally, they draft a linebacker " actually get paid to offer their opinions.

Yes, the most glaring need is secondary, and yes Polamalu's retirement is fresh in your mind. So naturally, any non-DB pick is dog ####, right? Never mind that pass rush is (at BEST) need 1B, that the quality of the pass rush and that of the secondary are inextricably linked, that value supercedes need in the draft for smart franchises/GMs, and that the Steelers have a proven track record of going BPA, sometimes almost to a fault, in the past.

Not a corner or safety? Give the pick a C- and say they should have taken a redundant (though good) player like Landon Collins who wouldn't help the team this year just because you saw him in most of the first round mocks you read. These are PROFESSIONAL reporters. Unreal.

Butler's said repeatedly that if all goes well, they'll show plenty of 3-4 and 4-3 type defenses, depending on situation, and that one of the things he values most in players is scheme versatility. I see nothing in this selection that would lead me to believe that has changed.

I recall hearing last night that Dupree lined up all over at Kentucky: inside, outside, 4:3 & 3:4.

He's very versatile and I think that's why they wanted him. Hell, I saw clips (steelersdepot, I believe) where Kentucky had him split out over the slot receiver in man coverage. The guy weighs almost 270 pounds and they had him covering the slot. That type of athletic ability is rare. He just needs coaching - how quickly he can pick up the concepts and adapt to the scheme will be everything for him. From what I've read, he's a tireless worker but not particularly bright or instinctual. It's going to be all between the ears for this kid.

From a physical standpoint, we heard a lot last year about how Jadaveon Clowney had "once in a generation size/speed." Consider :

Clowney 6'5" 266# 4.53 40, 1.59 10-yard split, 37.5" vert, 120" broad jump

Dupree 6'4" 269# 4.56 40, 1.60 10-yard split, 42.0" vert, 138" broad jump

Pretty happy we were able to get Dupree. It does seem like most of his production came against lesser opponents, but based on what Ive seen in the seen highlights Id agree with what they said on walterfootball about him being more disruptive than what the numbers show. I gotta think with the coaches we have, it wont be difficult to get him to start using his hands/initiating contact to shed blocks more consistently than what the college tape shows. That doesnt strike me as a "technique" that would be hard to coach up. I love the fact that he can cover (combine with his threat on the rush) and think just that alone will get him a bunch of snaps as a rookie.

I don't like Williams THAT much. I mean, if he fell to their spot at 57 (?) - yeah, take him. I'd forgive the lack of CB if you think you're getting Heath 2 for the next 10 years, but they're going to have to give up at least their third rounder and probably picks next year to move up to 33. They have too many holes to do that.

I don't like Williams at all, and this is exactly the sort of thing that will make me vomit if it happens. The difference between he and the rest of the pack at his position is negligible, in my mind.

There isn't a TE worth trading up for in this draft, period, let alone that far.

Thanks EG. I thought Ifo was a probable 1st round talent looking to come back this year. If it's more of a Shamarko time table, it is hard to burn a valuable roster spot let alone a draft pick.
