07 Dynasty rookie draft strategy question (1 Viewer)

I have accumulated 3 second round picks in a ppr league. I know there are several wrs that will go in the first 2 rounds of the NFL draft, is it best in a rookie draft to go after these guys or take a whim on the 8th or 9th best rbs this year. I know alot depends on your team but I think the best player available is usually the best strategy especially in the 2nd round of rookie drafts

What are you shooting for in your 2nd round this year? Going after one of the top 3-4 qbs? Really wanted a player that had an opportunity to start in 2-3 years from this 2nd round

Any thoughts based upon this year's crop of rookies? Fairly new to the Dyansty format and team buliding

The value in second will be 2nd tier RBs (the ones in lesser situations should last til the 2nd round), and a possible 2nd tier WR or two that slip through the cracks. You should also be able to land guys like Zach Miller and just about any of the 2nd tier QBs.

Post Combine Bloom 100 11-20 is in the oven and should speak to some of your questions.

Maurice Drew and Greg Jennings were both 2nd rounders last year and provided some immediate help to owners. WRs Sinorice Moss, Maurice Stovall, Drek Hagan, and Brandon Marshall all have a good chance of being WR2-3 in the next year or two. There are future starters sitting there in the 2nd, but you got to find them. There were no tier 2 type QBs in the 2006 draft. Matt, Vince, Jay, and then

The real value will be in the WR ranks. Steve Smith, Jason Hill, Johnnie Higgins, Aundrae Allison, and Anthony Gonzalez might collectively have better careers than Calvin Johnson, Dwayne Jarrett, Dwayne Bowe, Robert Meachem, and Sidney Rice.

This WR draft reminds me a little bit of the 2001 WR draft:

1.08 - David Terrell

1.09 - Koren Robinson

1.15 - Rod Gardner

1.16 - Santana Moss

1.25 - Freddie Mitchell

1.30 - Reggie Wayne

2.02 - Quincy Morgan

2.05 - Chad Johnson

2.10 - Robert Ferguson

2.21 - Chris Chambers

3.12 - Steve Smith

3.15 - Marvin Minnis

To be clear, I'm not comparing Calvin Johnson to David Terrell. I think Calvin Johnson is the real deal.

That said, I think there's a lot of risk in guys like Ginn, Rice, and Jarrett.

If you look at the 2001 crop, you'll notice that Reggie Wayne was WR6, Chad Johnson was WR8, Chris Chambers was WR10, and Steve Smith was WR11. I think you'll see some similar gems emerge from the second and third tiers this year.

IMO, the FF community has greatly exaggerated the value gap between someone like Ted Ginn and the 2nd-3rd round NFL WR prospects.
