Was the draft considerably better with the shorter time limit?

Simple.

For me, draft was SO much better with shortened time in between picks. Amazing how much of a difference it made.

I hated it. The draft is an event for me. I usually have a chat open with some guys, the FBG running draft thread open, and a few IM windows open. On top of that, I like flipping between ESPN and NFLN for all the analysis.

This year, it was just impossible to keep up with it all and I felt rushed and missed stuff all day.

On top of that, it didn't end any earlier because it was 3 hours shorter and started 3 hours later. This is the only football we get for a looooonnnnnggggg time, I'd rather milk it for all its worth. This was barely as long as a regular game.

I thought we might see some more responses like this.

Honestly I had no idea I was in this big of a minority. The vote is at 82-6 right now, wow. I guess it was a good decision even if I don't like it.This is a forum for hardcore football fans so I thought there would be more people that would want to stretch out our one day of football in a 6 month period for as long as possible.

i guess i dont understand why everyone is in such a HURRY

if you dont have time to watch the DRAFT using 15 minutes .. go out and do whatever you NEED TO DO

if you seriously need the draft to go FASTER then you prob dont need to be watching the draft in the first place

I said it was better, but I want to point one thing out:

If teams that knew what they wanted to do would make the pick/trade immediately instead of milking the clock all the time, I'd be ok with 15 minute clocks...

The problem is that almost everyone used the full 15 minutes, and that bogged the draft down way too much, IMO... It was like "WE ALL KNOW WHAT THEY'RE GONNA DO!! WHY AREN'T THEY PICKING?!?!"

I don't need the draft to go faster, I just like the fact it forces teams to pick a little quicker instead of waiting 5 minutes hoping they get some awesome trade deal at the last moment that they can't say no to that will NEVER come. 12 trades in the first round say 10 minutes was PLENTY enough for them to get deals done while making teams praying for that perfect deal that isn't coming draft sooner. If you need to wait 5 more minutes per pick so what turns out to be the same results as we got on Saturday then you NEED to find something to do with the time that was saved with the 10 minute clock.

:goodposting: :goodposting: By the time the draft rolled around, we already knew who was going in the top 4 picks. Move the draft up to Noon EST and have the 3rd round, seriously.
Agreed. Go back to noon, do the third round, keep the 10 minute clock and it would be PERFECT.
:goodposting: perfect!

I missed more analysis between picks and thought this was a pretty boring draft to watch on ESPN because they spent too much time on one pick and ended up missing the next pick half the time. I don't have NFLN so I can only assume they were better, but the ESPN crew did a terrible job.

I believe the biggest reason they went to 10/7 from 15/10 is so the NFL can move the Draft into Friday Night Prime Time in the following years.

Expect to see the following soon in regards to the Draft:

1. The Draft held outside NYC. This was the last year of the contract with Radio City Music Hall. The NFL front office has already been contacted by other cities willing to host the Draft. Roger Goodell is progressive enough to have this happen.

2. Rounds 1 and 2 held on Friday Night Prime Time (8pm start); Rounds 3 through 7 held on Saturday (Noon start).

I could be wrong on both of these counts. But I doubt it!!!!

2 rounds on a Friday night starting at 8 could have the night ending at 5am. I could see this: Friday night(8pm): round 1. Saturday night(5pm): rounds 2-4. Sunday afternoon(1pm): rounds 5-7. But I doubt that too.

I am one of those really really missed round 3 on SATURDAY! But the speed was so much better! I REALLY WISHED Saturday moved up 2 or 3 hours and 3 rounds completed.

Too me Saturday and Sunday are worlds apart. It's really hard to follow Sunday after so much digested Saturday. I just wish the 3rd was Saturday too!

Voted yes, it was much better. Like some of the posts above, I also agree that the beginning of the draft will eventually be on Friday night, but I think it will end up being...

- first half of round 1 on Friday night (first 16 picks? all non-playoff teams select?)

- second half of round 1, round 2 & round 3 on Saturday

- rounds 4-7 on Sunday

I hope they keep it a Saturday & Sunday event only but suspect the NFL will eventually stretch it out even further.

yes draft will move to friday...

but it will be rounds 1 & 2 on friday.

no way in a million years they ever stop a round in the middle and break-

thats just insane.
