and then come to camp and be ready for the season.

i doubt roaf retires. not this year. too many things are in order for the chiefs to make a run this one last time.

i think retirement is a way around the camp fines and that's it.

I hope this guy is right.

lol, great post . . .

i'm not saying this is a way to work the system, but i think they're working the system.

he's a 13 year vet and doesn't need training camp.

they just signed ty law.

herm was a player and also said good vets don't need training camp.

c'mon, let's not jump off the building until september.

Somebody who knows the answer may chime in, but I think once a player retires (and files the appropriate paperwork with the league) it's not all that easy to unretire a few weeks later.

see Ricky Williams. I belive once you file the paperwork you must sit out for a year.

Roaf's a long-tenured veteran and he's got a lot of nagging injuries. But he decided to play in 2006 all the way back when the offseason began for a reason, and that reason -- Kansas City's postseason chances -- have done nothing but improve since then. He likes Edwards, he likes the new "we're going to run you over" approach, and he has to like Ty Law's arrival.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him unretire, but if I was a betting man, I'd need at least 6 or 7-to-1 odds to lay any money down.

First off, Roaf hasnt even filed paperwork...thus the speculation has started about something going on under the table.Second, I would think that it cant be that easy or many more people would do it.

Third, maybe this should be merged with the other thread?

As far as I'm aware, once a player officially hands his retirement papers in to the NFL Management Council, he can not unretire within a year, but I may be wrong. That's absolutely the case for players in the NFL's substance abuse policy (who also incur a penalty), and I'm pretty sure it goes for all other players sans the penalty.

fines are optional anyhow, IIRC, so teams don't have to fine players for missing camp - the thing that changed this year was the max per day fine...this is geared at hooldouts ala Branch, Porter, Lelie, etc.

Regardless, Herm can't be seen as soft to a new team. He can't just go "well okay if you and you want to sit out you can"And this should be merged, as posted above.

Denver fans will recognize that this sounds a lot like Gary Zimmerman, circa 1997. Then great rejoicing when "Elway convinced him" to come back. I was born at night, but it wasn't last night. 13 year HOF caliber OL vets need training camp like a newborn baby needs shoes.
