Team A wants to trade Player#1 and Player#2 for Team B's Player#3. Assume the trade is reasonable and "fair" and no one objects to it.
However, Player#1 is currently on IR for another week, and Team B's bench is solid enough that he doesn't want to drop anyone for this trade. You can't place a traded player directly on IR, so the scenario in question:
Trade Player#1 for... anyone, say Team B's kicker. Team B then places Player#1 in their IR slot freeing a bench slot. Team A sends Player#2 and the kicker back to Team B for Player#3.
It accomplishes the trade that is unobjectionable on its face, and (as far as I understand) the NFL can trade a player on IR to IR without having to free up roster space first.
How would you vote on this?
