I have a draft on Saturday in a Yahoo League with H2H Category scoring and the categories are R, H, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, AVG, OBP. The categories are a little different than the ones I am used to because usually I either play points or H2H 5x5. It seems this type of scoring would favor hitters who can draw walks and get on base because of OBP and BB. I am confident the person in front of me will either pick A-Rod or Hanley Ramirez. If he picks A-Rod, I think I want to go Hanley but am not sure because of the type of scoring. Looking at the scoring it seems Pujols is the best bet for winning the most categories every week but he plays 1B and there is a lot of talent to choose from.
In addition, I set up a spreadsheet for Ramirez, A-Rod, Reyes, Wright and Pujols with all their stats from '08 in these categories and then assigned them a value of 1-5 if they won the category or not. 1 being the best, 5 being the worst. I also set a baseline of the stats with the worst performer getting +0 and the each performer over the worst gets + (the value above the worst), an example would be if player A is the worst with 5 hrs and player B has 10 hrs, player A gets +0 and player B gets +5. I know this isn't a science and my method and my method is probably flawed. Here are the results from it:
H. Ramirez 30 +161
A. Rodriguez 37 +109
J. Reyes 32 +137
A. Pujols 25 +337
D. Wright 25 +209
So it would seem the best picks for #2 would be Pujols and then Wright but this seems to go against all rankings and mock drafts. So how should I proceed? Thanks, any help in appreciated.
