2008 Draft List (1 Viewer)

Suppose you were in a league that drafts *today* for 2008. What would your top 10-20 look like?

While it may sound outlandish/overeager, in reality I think it's pretty important for leagues with keepers. You need to be able to assess 2008 in addition to the wealth of resources available for 2007.

My first instinct is, of course, to take my current top 10-20 and tweak it ever-so-slightly based on age and any risks of team/role changes. However, it seems that this could be wrong. The reason being that QB rankings seem pretty consistent from year-to-year where RBs seem to get shuffled around more. Guys like LT, LJ, SA made several-year runs at the top but the next tier of guys seems different every single year.

So, given the (supposed) increased certainty of QBs, wouldn't it make more sense to slide them up? Not because they're inherently better but because they offer you a much better degree of certainty? Wouldn't it make sense to slide Peyton up from say 20th to 10th? Are there really 10 RBs that you can be confident will be more valuable than Peyton next year?

Are you asking for what the DRAFTS look like, or what the POINT SCORING will be like? If its drafts, then sliding QBs up doesnt really help b/c the RBs will still be the premium players. Gotta take some chances. Certainly I think Peyton, Carson, etc. will score more points than the RBs, but if I'm drafting then I'm still looking for RBs early. For drafting top 20... I'm going non-ppr, and making future predictions...

1. LT ( not going anywhere )

2. Jackson ( not going anywhere either )

3. Gore ( Alex Smith coming to form only helps. )

4. LJ ( chiefs learn and revitalize their line, young enough to stay stud ).

5. Portis ( he's back on form, and deserves this spot ).

6. Willie Parker ( tomlin is actually able to incorporate the spread package in Pitt ).

7. Maroney ( nothing bad about this guy when hes not hurt ).

8. Adrian Peterson ( still one year away from the top 5, but close ).

9. Peyton Manning ( still has one more year of Harrison ).

10. Travis Henry ( skeptics remember what Denver RBs can do ).

11. Reggie Bush ( solid, but still competing for looks in a killer O ).

12. Brian Westbrook ( Donovan's been released after missing another 6 games ).

13. Rudi Johnson ( Mr. Consistent has one more solid year before 30 ).

14. Cedric Benson ( hate making this pick, but I think he's good for it ).

15. Carson Palmer ( Bengals lose offseason distractions, head to AFC semis on this guy's shoulders ).

16. Shaun Alexander ( losing a step, but nice season in '07 when Hasselbeck struggles ).

17. Steve Smith ( lil' dude still cannot be stopped. )

18. Reggie Wayne ( has officially taken the reigns ).

19. Kevin Jones ( last 7 games of '07 are killer. )

20. Michael Turner ( Burner's on full blast after being traded to Tampa when Caddy tanks again. )

Other thoughts... ( stirring it up a bit. )

Climbers:

Santana Moss ( Gibbs is gone and Campbell's learning fast ).

Leinart ( how can you not like this guy with Boldin and Fitz ).

Fallers:

Addai ( by week 7 Dorsey's stealing 15 touches as Joe can't handle by himself. )

MJD ( the 10-15 touches a game he's getting aren't enough to justify top 20 after a "meager" 6 TD season in 07 ).

Man, I'm gonna feel like an idiot if I re-read this in a year.

Prankster, I mean value not just total score. I guess what I'm getting at is if you have to make this selection today, and actually be stuck with this player for all of 2008, are you really going to take Portis, Maroney, Parker, and ADP ahead of Peyton Manning? I agree that if those guys "work out" as top 10 backs next year they're more valuable but I think there's a 90% chance Manning is a top 3 QB next preseason and maybe a 60-70% chance that those guys are top backs. Given that, it seems we should slide Manning up to somewhere around 5th vs the usual 10th-12th.
