ROY Odds - Cappersmall.com

Bodog has posted betting odds on who will win this year's NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. DeSean Jackson the speedster from Philadelphia is favored at 2/1, followed by Darren McFadden from Oakland at 7/2 and Jonathan Stewart from Carolina at 13/2.
:bye:
Rookies, Matt Forte of Chicago is 8/1, Kevin Smith of Detroit is 9/1 and Rashard Mendenhall, the running back drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers is next at 10/1.

Other notable betting odds include Felix Jones (12/1) who went No. 22 to Dallas, Matt Ryan (12/1) and Joe Flacco (13/1).

Great thread, its' early May, so I'm not hearing the hyperbole before or doing preseason.

I'm going with Kevin Smith at 9-1.

They have nobody at RB, they have an expierenced QB and they have a WR core that can take the heat off the RB.

They don't have a defense that can keep games close at times but if you're gonna play some odds, I'm on Smith at 9-1 to start.

Can I short DeSean Jackson?

ETA: Jerome Simpson is a screaming buy if Chad Johnson isn't catching passes from Palmer this year.

Hey Jeff, maybe Jackson being favored has more to do with opportunities coming his way because of Philly's lack of talent otherwise at WR and in the return game than with any particular studliness on his part, eh?

Two things were certain the moment this thread was posted.

1). There would be a clamour to point out what fantastic odds were available about a vast range of players. Sure enough, we get a dozen different players nominated in the first dozen posts.

2). None of the replies point out that this is roughly a 175% book. Which is not to say there can't still be one or two value bets, so I'm not ragging on any individual poster above, but the first thing that has to be said about this market is that most of the odds offered are appallingly bad value.

Long and Hardy are TERRIFIC bets
No offensive lineman has EVER won this award. Long is a horrible bet.Linemen are unsung heroes who don't win awards or recognition. That wont change this year either.
I think he means Chris Long, not Jake.
nah I meant Jake. I know that OL are unsung, but Thomas was 2nd in the voting last year (ahead of Bowe, ahead of Lynch), and if no RB has an AD-like breakout this year, Long could be poised to win it by default, unless Ryan comes out strong, or Hardy makes a big splash. McNeill also finished 4th in 06, so its not like the OL are completely overlooked, they just have trouble overcoming a truly impressive rookie skill player because they are more visible. This year's class of skill players might not produce a rookie wonder - unless its McFadden or Hardy.

I would have voted for Thomas as ROY last year personally. His play was truly amazing and more impressive than Peterson's IMO. Only problem is you didn't see Thomas highlights on ESPN and well, RBs are much more fun to talk about. Either way, I certainly appreciate stellar play at the Oline. A couple of things in regards to Long (who I have always said should be the #1 pick in the draft and like a great deal): I don't think he is as good as Thomas. Many people are not even certain he is a best fit at LT. His pass blocking is not as polished as Thomas' was entering the league and his feet are not as fast or refined either. He is not likely to have the year Thomas had. The odds are heavily stacked against Long winning any such award. Rest assured, one of the many skill guys drafted will put up adequate stats that pull all the attention away from a guy like Long.I agree with the previous poster who said none of these odds are anything to get excited about. If I were laying money down however, I would place it on McFadden and Mannningham.

 Dolphins are a lock for (at least) a 5-win improvement + riding Joe Thomas' (and Marcus McNeill's) coattails+no RB or QB or WR seems to have the combination of talent and opportunity that screams RoY= Long is very much in the game.

Brian Brohm (GB) 40/1 - Shouldn't see the field Chad Henne (MIA) 25/1 - Nice shot, but not at those odds Chris Johnson (TEN) 22/1 - I like this one Darren McFadden (OAK) 7/2 - Most likely, but only so-so odds at best on a fairly non-competitive team DeSean Jackson (PHI) 2/1 - ??? I don't get this (even if it is 20/1) unless he's Hester V2.0 Devin Thomas (WAS) 20/1 - He won't get past li'l Moss and El w/o injury and Kelly might be the better red zone guy now. Not buyin' Donnie Avery (STL) 30/1 - Holt's knees and Bennet should hold up for the year, but an injury could vault this guy into top 5. Dustin Keller (NYJ) 25/1 - A TE? Sure, I'll take those odds and one of those bridges in the window Earl Bennett (CHI) 100/1 - Gotta love those odds. Booker and Bradley? He's got a legitimate shot at making the starting lineup, being billed as the best rookie route runner Early Doucet (ARI) 50/1 - Um, no. Bolden and Fitz did all they could to maintain stud status last year after a slow start... and they're studs! Eddie Royal (DEN) 40/1 - Doubt it. Not at those odds. Felix Jones (DAL) 12/1 - "Being on America's Team" helps, but I'm not confident he'll get the stats for ROY. Jacob Hester (SD) 40/1 - NO! Jake Long (MIA) 30/1 - I like it, but I'd need a little better odds to take an OL Jamaal Charles (KC) 24/1 - Only if he can redshirt for two years and call 2010 his rookie year James Hardy (BUF) 22/1 - My personal favorite Jerome Simpson (CIN) 50/1 - Good odds concidering the potential situation Joe Flacco (BAL) 18/1 - Bad odds... for any Raven QB John Carlson (SEA) 35/1 - Another TE  John David Booty (MIN) 50/1 - Just 'cause T.Jackson sucks doesn't mean that a guy w/o an NFL arm is going to be any better Jonathan Stewart (CAR) 13/2 - Poor odds for a guy sharing carries w/ a capable back Kevin Smith (DET) 9/1 - I could see this happening. Small school guys are always drafted later than they should be, but it is the Lions that drafted him Limas Sweed (PIT) 25/1 - I doubt he beats out N.Washington this year. Give him a couple years to learn route running and he can compete w/ J.Charles for redshirt ROY Malcolm Kelly (WAS) 30/1 - The best red zone target outside of Portis, Cooley and Mix... but he does have the inside track to the #4 WR in D.C. :banned: Mario Manningham (NYG) 50/1 - Which young WR in NY will get the hype this year? Matt Forte (CHI) 8/1 - For a team that can't produce a productive NFL back w/ a top 5 pick, I'll temper my enthusiasm and wouldn't touch those odds w/ your $ Matt Ryan (ATL) 12/1 - This makes my top 5 for the odds Rashard Mendenhall (PIT) 10/1 - FWP needs to break his leg again for me to take those odds. He may win the job by season's end, but he'll need to do it by week 4 for ROY honors Ray Rice (BAL) 24/1 - See M'hall above Steve Slaton (HOU) 30/1 - He doesn't get 30/1 odds to win the starting job in Houston Tashard Choice (DAL) 40/1 - Is this a typo? Did they miss a zero? Field 8/1- What field? Mike Hart? The have two TEs on the list. So the field is the KC WR, Tamme in IND and Hart. Make it 80 to 1

I love it. I got DeSean at 21 to 1 in preseason. Was wondering what the current odds would be. Eta. Must be a mistake 20 to 1 makes more sense
