2008 Wish List (1 Viewer)

All I have on my Christmas wishlist is that the my FBG cheetsheats break out CB and Safety and DT from DE - I think more and more dynasty leagues are going in that direction. I joined my first one this year. There is a lot of good information here in the forum - the best in fact of anywhere but it would be nice to be able to put in your scoring system and be able to seperate the positions. If not in my FBG then just a breakout on the FBG scoring.

A huge thank you for all the help and information to be found here in this forum. It is the cream of the crop for sure. Great mods and posters. The only place to come for IDP!

Good job to everyone and thanks - I'm in 4 playoffs out of 7 teams do to the advice and information and help I have received here! From drafting to waiver wire to trades to rankings and projections and the fabulous podcasts! Keep up the great work!

 :excited: :pics: Couldn't agree more on the accolades and the suggestion. I am 12-1 in one IDP dynasty and 11-3 in the other. Owe a lot of that to this site!

I'd love to get at least one more set of weekly projections besides Norton's. Nothing against him, just for variety sake.

You know what would be great:

An IDP fantasy roundtable on a weekly basis, with Jene,Norton,Bloom,Borbely, and Magaw like the one Maurile and Co. do now

We changed the IDP roundtable over to a podcast this year - Podcast page - It just seemed to work better with everyone's schedules. If there's anything missing from that that you would like to see, please let us know.

Thanks for the great job you guys have done over the past year!

However, given that this is a "wish list" thread, I'd like to see Dynasty DL/LB/DB rankings updated weekly by at least one member of the staff.

I love reading Jene's postings on specific questions, but it would be fantastic to see his positional Dynasty IDP rankings more regularly.

Remember, the new 2008 seasons have already started in many dynasty leagues with UFA/RFA periods well underway.

Most of the rankings I see posted are >>>35 days old.

Lastly, a separate ranking breakdown of tackle vs. big play vs. balanced formats would be incredible!

I second the thoughts on:

1) Breaking out the DBs into CBs and Safeties, and breaking out the DL into DE and DT

2) More updated rankings, especially in the offseason (IDP dynasty rankings were just updated for the first time in around 50 days) - even if they don't change much (lots of us query the site and download these into Excel to do calculations on, no problem with the Offense, but all my IDP Queries have to go back 200 days in the offseason to populate since there's no range between 35 days and 200 days).

I'm one who strongly believes in the importance of understanding defensive schemes and am notorious for pushing it hard in this Forum and in our regular offseason and regular season content. Here's some stuff to get you started.

There's a pinned thread at the top of this forum with each team's current coach and defensive system. It contains a link to a similar thread from 2007, which contained a detailed discussion of the potential impact of last year's offseason changes.

The pinned FAQ thread has a number of threads that discuss some of the different schemes, including some discussion of the 3-4, Tampa-2 and others. Some of those threads are 18 months+ old now, though, so feel free to start new threads to fill in the gaps where you wish. If you're into podcasts, the FAQ thread has links (as does my signature below) to the five part series we put together last offseason -- IDP 101-401 -- which takes an in-depth look at a number of major IDP topics (e.g. importance of scoring system, drafting strategies, positional breakdowns, scheme discussions, scouting ideas, etc, etc). There's nearly three hours of hard core IDP discussion within those podcasts and each one is more detailed than the next. Those are all free and can be downloaded to your hard drive for listening on your PC, burned to a CD or put on an ipod.

Subscribers can access John Norton's Breaking Down NFL Defenses article (last published in 2004 or 2005), which is the original and seminal work on the importance of understanding how a player's position affects his IDP value. I've done over the past couple of seasons about the various Tampa-2 (2005) and 3-4 schemes (2006) gaining popularity in the NFL of late.

It's on a long list of things I'd like to do, but John and I are considering pooling our thoughts into a comprehensive article discussing scheme and positional issues at some point. If we don't get to that, maybe we'll do a Forum series on the various schemes and coaching philosophy, complete with some X and O discussion. Depending on how the Fun With Stats series goes, that might be February or it may stay on hold until the downtime between minicamps in late May.

Stick around, we'll get you coached up. :pickle:
