2012 Draft Picks (1 Viewer)

Just hours away from the start of the NFL draft, I am still not sure if 2012 (or beyond) draft picks are available to trade.

Are they?

Any links to verify one way or another?

(I am sure that the rules will change once the dust settles, but considering trades can and will happen tonight I find that this topic is very timely).

TIA.

What I have read several times is that yes, they can, but it's a buyer beware situation as the status of 2012 is up in the air.

Thanks guys. I think I saw some link in a recent thread (probably a huge one, so can't find it now) so if anyone knows of that link which said that they were NOT available I'd appreciate it.

I'd have to question if this is allowed or not, since "officially" there isn't a 2012 draft. I guess that goes under the "Buyer Beware" caveat.

IMHO I think we could see a player (Or >1) selected by a team and then traded to another club tomorrow. For example, Arizona drafts Peterson and then deals him to Philly for Kevin Kolb and their 2nd round pick tomorrow (once that is permitted, if it is - who knows right now).

Ok, understand the "buyer beware". What are the odds there is not an NFL draft in 2012? one in a million? Technically there is risk, but the owners know they can and will defeat the players. There probably will be a trade for a 2012 pick tonight.

but part of the question is if the teams are allowed these sorts of transactions at this time.I recall some site / story / link that said without a CBA then there can be no trades of future picks, but I can't find that story.

Here is a link that may answer some questions, Link.
Thanks.

So from that:

This year, picks may not be traded after they are made, if the lockout has not ended.
That means that Arizona could select Peterson and the Eagles could take someone at 23 then then on Friday, should it be permissible, the Eagles could send the 23rd player and Kolb for Peterson - since the lockout is technically over based on the court ruling.

NFL-N was just talking how BB in NE only has 5 picks in 2012, so they'll be looking to fix that in the draft. That seems to answer the questions.

I read somewhere that, because of the expected reduced future rookie wages, future draft picks might be valued higher than in the past and teams might be more reluctant to trade them this year.
