2012 Madden cover goes to... (1 Viewer)

Should I or should I not point out the elephant in the room. Decisions, decisions.

I found it funny that it came down to vick and his past

or hillis and what i expect will be HGH or roid issues. lol.

Wasn't it Brees this year? He didn't bust.
Someone will find a reason he was a "bust". Maybe his Ints, or losing in the playoffs to a team with a losing record.
No... it's the knee injury that he sustained week 3 that they tried to cover up all year and then finally admitted to in January.
Or that. Either way, most of the recent examples of the Madden curse is just people reaching for things.

PEYTON HILLIS
Racism is alive and well in America. Pretty sure that a black RB from the Browns with less than 1200 rushing yards would not have even gotten out of the first round.
HAHAHA I knew someone was gonna say something so absurd and rediculous like this. I has nothing to do with racism. What a pathetic statement.
It might not be racism, but it certainly is racial. You can't possibly argue that Hillis got out of the first round if this voting, if he were black. Ray rice had more yards rushing and more receiving. Mendenhall had more rushing and more touchdowns. If you wanted to make a case for a break out running back who came out of no where to have an epic season, well, gosh, I don't know how you could look further than Foster, who had 450 more yards rushing, 120 more yards receiving and 5 more touchdowns. If you're doing it strictly on performance, Foster is clearly the running back that should have advanced to the finals.No. Hillis isn't on the cover because he is the best running back, a break out running back, a fantasy mvp, or any other reason than he's the first white 1000 yard rusher since 1986. Race has everything to do with his popularity.

Or maybe just the fact that the team and city of Cleveland had a huge campaign to help thier player win the vote? Maybe that was it?

Or maybe it had something to do with the fact that one player brutally killed innocent dogs in a horrible and disgusting way and the other guy didn't. Maybe that's why?

yeah, I'm sure that was it. Does cleveland even have internet access yet?

If that were the case, why was vick in the finals to begin with? Wouldn't he have lost in the first round? You can certainly make the case that vick making the finals was racial as well, as I imagine a disproportionate amount of Vick voters were african american, a community he is, was, and has always been immensely popular in.

Come on. You're better than that. That's not even an intelligent response. :)
Actually, what it was, was a joke. Lighten up, Francis. Just because someone played the race card, doesn't mean you have to lose your sense of humor.

I know. Thats why I put the smiley face. :)

I would've voted for Peterson over Hillis, but picked the white boy over Vick. If you think race is all that went into Vick losing, you're being silly.

A buddy of mine heard on the Dan Patrick show that there was an internet campaign to get Hillis on the cover as kind of a joke. Because he's a pretty average talent so it's kind of funny. And yes, probably because he's a white RB, too.

:lmao: at a one year wonder average rb being on the cover.

Has to be a joke or something, no way hillis is that popular with the general public.

Its the Madden cover, not the league MVP, why do people care so much? He had almost 1700 yards and 13TD's on a team with the worst QB/WR's in the league. I have a feeling if he wasnt white nobody would have gven it a 2nd thought.

Maybe the Madden franchise has lost so much popularity that they needed an average white guy to represent just how mediocre it has become. Heard you get a free Big Mac and a Coke when you preorder.

If that were the case than Mike Alstott should have been on it 10 years ago.

So I guess Hillis is white? I had no idea. Seriously.

Why do people even worry about the racial aspect of a Madden cover? Maybe the people of Cleveland finally have someone on their team who might be considered for a cover and they're blowing up the voting to get a shred of respect. Isn't that possible as well?

No one earns a Madden cover. It isn't some league award. It is based on internet voting.

Foster didnt earn enough intenet votes...

Seriously....how did Aaron Rodgers not win this?
Did Aaron Rodgers want to be on the cover and does that play into it? Serious question. I would assume if a guy does not want to be on the cover that they don't have to be, maybe that is the reason.

He lost against Hillis in the semi's.It's pretty obvious there was an internet joke campaign to get Hillis the #1 spot. That's what they get for making it based on internet "votes."

Not sure why everyone assumes it's a joke. First, the cities with players competing in the bracket are the ones that really drive the vote. Cleveland pushed hard for fans to vote for Hillis. Also, Hillis had a good year and most people who follow the NFL appreciate his hard-nosed, blue collar style. He's a very humble, likeable player.

Hillis might not be the league MVP, but I would hardly conclude it took a "joke" to get him on the cover in this type of voting format.
