2012 Shark Pool Survivor Contest - Playoff Tiebreaker (1 Viewer)

Congratulations to everyone who survived the entire regular season without missing a single pick! That's truly some impressive prognostication. Here's the list of names for people who are still alive for our tiebreaker:

Bill Brasky

BroadwayG

Clark Griswold

frae

SanDawg

The Beezer

Zone Blitz

Here are the rules for our tiebreaker:

1. Picks for all weeks must be submitted to this thread by the time of the first kickoff of Saturday, from the wild card week to the Super Bowl.

2. All 11 games must be picked.

3. Each correct Wild Card game picked is worth 1 point, Divisional Round game is worth 2 points, Conference Championship is worth 4 points, and Super Bowl is worth 8 points.

4. In addition, one game in each of the Wild Card, Divisional Round, and Conference Championship can be designated your "lock pick". If you get this pick right, you earn an extra point, but if you get that pick wrong, you will lose a point. Lock picks are optional, and you don't have to pick one on a give week if you choose not to.

5. As a final tiebreaker, make sure you pick the total points scored in the Super Bowl. The player that gets the closest to this total would win in case of a tie.

Here's a sample format of how you should submit your picks (don't put any stock into what teams I picked - remember, I was eliminated back in Week 2 ;)

Wild Card:

HOU over CIN

IND over BAL

WAS over SEA

GB over MIN (LOCK)

Divisional Round:

HOU over NE

DEN over IND (LOCK)

SF over GB

WAS over ATL

Conference Championship:

DEN over HOU (LOCK)

SF over WAS

Super Bowl:

DEN over SF (Total Points: 42)

Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck!

Thanks for setting this up killrobotkill.

One question I have is what happens if I pick 2 teams to win in the divisional round that end up playing each other? Here is an example:

I pick SEA to beat WAS. SEA wins.

I pick GB over MIN. MIN wins.

My divisional picks are for SEA to beat ATL and SF to beat GB. But the actual matchup are MIN/ATL and SEA/SF. Am I guaranteed a point in the SEA/SF game since I picked them both to win, or can I not get any points because I have the matchups wrong?

Because of this concern, it may just be better to run this as a 4-week contest and have us make our picks before each week's games with the same rules you have laid out. Having said that, I've got no problems participating in this way since we are all working under the same handicap.

I always thought a fun and challenging wrinkle on this sort of contest would be that you can only pick a team to win 1 time and ALSO can only pick a team to lose 1 time. No fattening up on the Chiefs nearly every week. Gotta figure it would increase the pace of eliminations as well.

Good luck playoff dudes.

In the example above, yes, you are guaranteed a point from the SEA/SF game, just as you're guaranteed *not* to get a point from the MIN/ATL game. You might also get or lose an extra point depending on whether you picked SEA or SF as your lock pick for the divisional round.

Thanks Beezer and to all who helped during hurricane Sandy this year running this pool. 2nd time in four years now I went the distance and had to go to a tie breaker. I love this free one because it helps me make decisions in my money suicide pools where it really counts. Have hit 2x now on that over the past four as well. Have a great off season and see you all next year.
