The Philadelphia Inquirer passes along a rumor that Eagles GM Howie Roseman is "crunching numbers" and "putting together an offer" to acquire Darrelle Revis.
It would make plenty of sense. The Eagles are sickly thin at the cornerback position with the impending and inevitable departures of Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, and they have a boat load of cap space in order to meet Revis' salary demands. Beat writer Jeff McLane speculates Philly could package the No. 35 overall pick with a future pick to entice the Jets. New York is reportedly "determined" to trade Revis prior the the draft.

I have a lot of thoughts about trading for Revis, but the simple cliff note version is I'm not a fan of this.

No thanks. Revis may be a stud, but he's an unnecessary risk for a rebuilding defense. There's plenty of talented CBs on the FA market who aren't coming off ACL tears and don't have a penchant for holding out. Philly fans need look no further than their basketball team when questioning the wisdom of giving up a bounty of picks and a huge salary for a highly skilled player whose health/effectiveness are currently in question.

It just feels like a headache waiting to happen. He's never satisfied with his contract and is a constant threat to hold out. I would feel different about it if the team was already progressing and just needed a couple pieces to make a SB push. They're not. And would Revis actually be a good clubhouse leader or a detriment?

I really wanted them to keep Amendola and/or Gibson the year they had them. Mainly Amendola cause he was a decent WR but a good KR/PR. Classic Andy though getting rid of guys he perceives to have no value.

Absolutely, want no part of Revis. Or Harrison as someone brought up earlier.I want us to get a decent CB, S, SAM LB and DL, average to above average guys but not go overboard, so that we can go to the draft and take the best players rather than be tempted into drafting for need again.Edit: Happy with even average for now. Just don't want to see obvious holes going into the draft.

IMHO, there is no excuse for us not getting an OT in FA. You dont see this many of them make it and so many good RT's at that.

There's such a plethora of available DL talent, several of which appear to fit as nose tackle. (Knighton, Branch, Hill, Miller, Bryant, etc.) Hard to imagine them not filling the void with a FA tackle, likely at a reasonable price too. Could put to rest any notion of them drafting Star or Floyd.

I can see it but he's gonna cost 12+ million, coming off of a major knee injury and you're going to have to trade for him. Unless its like a 3 you're trading I want no part of it.

Yes he's been an uber-stud. But the Eagles don't need an uber-stud in '13. They need one in '14 & beyond. There's not guarantee he'll be a stud in '14 & '15 and it will take a new mega-contract to get him in camp this year. Plus I see him as somewhat of malcontent. He held out his rookie year in '07, held out in '10 and threatened a hold out in '12. In 6 years of being a pro, he's held out or threatened 3 times.I'll pass.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora "continues to hear" the Eagles will be the team to pay free agent FS Dashon Goldson's price tag.
We'll see. The Eagles are definitely interested in Goldson with ample cap space to land him, but previous reports indicated they might not be the top bidder. Goldson is entering his age-29 season, so he's looking to max out on what might be his final lucrative NFL contract. The Bucs and Lions also want to sign Goldson.

Sort of a Christmas Eve feel to this afternoon... and yet as the anticipation builds I wonder what the fan reaction will be to the Eagles inevitable slew of FA signings. We've got a ton of cap room, a team full of holes and an NFL-mandated salary floor so you know Roseman will have his checkbook open. Will fans applaud the team for aggressively moving to get better? Or will there be backlash from fans still suffering from the Dream Team hangover?
Im hoping for a couple of big moves right out of the gate, followed by some shrewd bargain hunting once the frenzy calms down. If we can fill glaring holes now, we'll be better positioned to stick to a BPA strategy at the draft.

They could....we would have to hope our Dr's would do what they have to do.The biggest issue with a lot of the stuff I'm posting here is that we are one of the few teams with money and a lot of need for the big FA's that our out there. We are going to be "linked" to almost everyone.

True, plus with the Nnamdi release, and it look like they're letting DRC walk as well so I expect at least one big name signing, if not a couple. Too many holes to fill just through the draft.

We have a lot of holes to fill. As long as they are targeting young guys that can grow with the team, I think a slew of FA's isn't going to be a bad thing. 2011 was about signing the big names to come here. Most of those big names were either pushing 30 or 30+. This is probably the most important time for Kelly in his tenure, even more so than the upcoming draft. He can get some guys to be the backbone of his team for his time here.

Same here, just as long as the players are good fits in the team's scheme and won't cause any locker room problems. Getting a good corner is a big need now though.
