*** 2013 Official Philadelphia Eagles - NFC EAST CHAMPS*** (1 Viewer)

Eagles beat writers are saying he wants too much money. I'll trust the front office here, especially with Tom Gamble now on the staff.
Who, RJF? If true, then I'd let him walk since he's not really an impact guy anyways. I'm holding out hope that they sign a solid CB/OT, and then fill the other position at the 5 spot.

Bloom talking to Jody Mac on WIP right now.

Really not offering much insight into Eagles' signings, though he does like what they've done. Seemed particularly high on Fletcher.

He thinks the most improved team thus far is KC - even went so far as to say they could contend for an AFC wild card this season.

A lot of discussion around drafting Geno. I am not high on the idea, but would hope that Kelly know what type of QB he is looking to run his offense. Does anyone think there is any validity or just a smokescreen?

I hope to God that it's just a smokescreen.
Ditto, but the uncertainty of a new coach scares me. Kelly could have pegged this guy from the get go as his man. I just don't see it with Geno. At least Donovan was a highly touted prospect that some said could have been worthy of the #1 overall in the year he went. He had the tools and the upside. Geno just doesn't seem it. He seems to be the best of what there is this year. However, Kelly has made it work with less than top tier talent everywhere he's gone. I'm not saying he needs to keep doing that but I wouldn't be shocked if Geno was his guy. Hoping it's just a ploy to get another draft pick out of a team like AZ or Buff but I wouldn't be totally shocked if the Eagles took him at 4.

I think it's due diligence that could blossom into legitimate interest. Could be evidence of Chip's degree of confidence - if he rights the ship this season, Eagles may not be in a position to add a top QB from next year's much-ballyhooed draft class. Thus it would make sense to consider taking Smith this year, if he impresses them enough.

Jaworski is on record that he thinks Smith will be a star.

Jaws thinks every young QB could be a star though. He's almost as bad as Gruden except that he was a QB so he gets a little more rope. I do see the point at a quick turnaround though. If they do go 8-8 or 9-7 this year, then they would most certainly be out of that running. You can never plan on getting a top 5 draft pick. So if Geno is Kelly's guy, he will be the pick. Then the trick would be to con Detroit into thinking Milliner is the guy so we can get them to cough up a 3rd or 4th to move up a spot.

Looks like the CB market has been slow to develop. Most of the big names are still available with little team interest being reported, and those who have signed (Toler, Cox, DRC) certainly haven't broken the bank. With some of the league's big spenders having already shot their wad, the Eagles could be in position to add a top CB after all. Better to take advantage of the depressed market and strike now rather than waiting for a Revis deal to set the bar.

This blows:@Jeff_McLane: RT @mattbarrows: #49ers FA DL Ricky Jean Francois finished his trip in Philadelphia and is on his way to Indianapolis, agent said.
Pat Kirwan and Tim Ryan both said that RJF is one of the guys they put at the top of their list of who NOT to over pay.
And after seeing what Bryant got from Cleveland I thought this may happen. We'll have to wait and see what his price is when he signs and go from there I guess. I just REALLY want an OT now!

I've always been of the belief that if you think a QB is the answer, draft him and don't screw around. I think they could trade to CLE's pick and be safe, but not past that since ARI is next. That being said, I'm not sure what to think re: Geno. I've seen him look great and I've seen him stink up the joint. He certainly didn't impress me at the combine. I would go 'safe' here and take Fisher or Milliner personally, but I'm not a NFL scout be any means.

according to rotoworld, geno just completed 60 of 64 passes at his pro day and had two drops by his wrs. eagles reps were not there however. listed teams were BUF, KC, Jags, OAK...I would much rather have a OT or Milliner, Geno seems too risky to me.

Eagles didnt need to be since they had a private workout with him last week.I'm with DH regarding QB's...if THEY think he's a franchise QB then they pick him, no question about it IMO. Some of the biggest knocks on him were footwork and that he took a majority of his snaps from the Shotgun. Apparently the footwork looked much improved from the Combine to today.

With what we've signed in FA so far I would like one of the following at 4:

Joeckel

Fisher

Star (if cleared) as a DE

Jordan

IMHO we'd be in great shape after the first pick and would just need to pick the Best DB availible in round 2.

Haven't seen anything reported anywhere about Cary Williams visiting teams. Colts were speculative suitors, but they signed Toler. Wonder what's up with that? He's someone I was hoping we'd target. Maybe there's still a chance...

I usually don't put a lot of weight in the pro days since those are usually under optimal conditions in a place where the player is most comfortable. I do see talent there but not enough to take a gamble. This team cannot afford to mess this pick up.*edit* I know my buddy doesn't like him either. He told me he wouldn't touch any of these QBs before the 2nd round.

Was kind of hoping some of that cap room would go to Sean Smith or Jake Long. Who are the best options still out there at CB and Tackle?

We need a RT and the top guys are all still out there in Smith and VollmerSame with CB mostly. Talib (who many saw as the #1 CB), Cary Williams, Brent Grimes and Antoine Cason. It seems like it sucks but there's plenty of names out there  and yes, I'm going through withdraw lol

I forgot Winston and I'm pretty sure Cox signed with some one, New Orleans maybe?

Didnt Grimes do a 1yr deal to stay in ATL?
Apparently he didn't after and the initial report was wrong. I agree with that list, replace Cox with Grimes though since Cox signed. I'm not sold on Cary Williams though.

RT @caplannfl: Ricky Jean Francois agreed to a 4 year, $22 M deal with the Colts, per source.

I would probably pass on him for that deal as well.

they really overpaid. what has the guy done to deserve that? good for him though
Apparently he was just a rotational guy for SF, didn't even see a lot of action in the SB. I'm not a huge fan of the Sopoaga signing either, but at least his deal is basically just one a year contract and he's probably just a stop gap signing for the team.

Philadelphia Eagles ‏@Eagles

#Eagles agree to terms with S Kenny Phillips (1-year deal) and CB Cary Williams (3-year deal).

Love the Phillips signing, he's a really good safety when healthy. I'm not 100% sold on Williams, but he looked decent for the Ravens, especially later in the season.

Phillips has talent, but he's injury prone. We're only on the hook for a year. If he works out, great. If not, no big deal.

Cary Williams may not be the best, but at least he's physical, and we NEED that.

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter

Eagles gave former Ravens CB Cary Williams a three-year, $17 million deal, including $10.5 million guaranteed.

And I love the attitude Williams plays with and he's another bigger CB! Love Phillips for 1 year as well!I have ZERO issues with how theyre attacking the off-season so far either. Get the high upside guys in here and let them battle for positions!Get one of the RT's and depth here and there and we'rw all good!

Wow. I like those.
Yeah this secondary needed a lot of help after letting Nnamdi and DRC walk, I think this probably puts an end to the Millner speculation unless they sign a tackle. Hopefully Phillips can stay healthy, he'll be a steal if he does.
I think the draft options are still wide open. Millner would make sense because Fletcher doesn't necessarily project as a starter. Fisher would fill a huge need on the line. And Geno remains a polarizing possibility. If we get Barwin it's probably safe to put any Jordan/Jones talk to rest.

Barwin has signed. Really good offseason so far. Signing solid players who fill needs instead of giving out huge contracts to names. Now they just need to draft the best players available and let the best 11 play on Sundays.
