*** 2013 Official Philadelphia Eagles - NFC EAST CHAMPS*** (1 Viewer)

Heard Vick might be interested in coming back nxt year as a backup. I think I'm in favor of that... 2nd year in the system, and probably ok to come in for a game or two if he had to... Should be no question of Foles being the guy or drafting a QB in the first 4 rounds.
If you guys can get a happy, healthy Vick to return for backup money that's a no-brainer IMO. Especially in that offense.

I wonder what the Eagles offense would look like without Desean. He seems to be the key piece in all of this, with all the schemes, end-arounds and being able to stretch the field. Let alone his amazing athleticism.

Definite no brainer if he's willing to be the back up. Its always good to have a quality backup that can win you a couple games if need be.

I wonder what it could look like with a big body opposite him like a Demarius Thomas?

Well, Decker is a FA after this year.
I very much doubt they'd invest in both, but ... can you imagine Chip's offense with D-Jax plus Decker AND a healthy Maclin? Jesus.

Yea I'd keep Cooper at this point. Kjows the offense, works well with Foles and doesn't cost too much. I personally am done with Maclin. Guy can't stay healthy. Not always his fault but some guys are just snake bitten (J Stewart). I just can't see them resigning him after a season missed due to injury. I'd like them to target a big burner in the draft.

Agreed. Cooper will be far cheaper to re-sign than chasing after a big money guy like Decker.

I think we can get Maclin on a 1-2 year "prove-it" type deal. If they love a WR in the next draft, I won't hate them picking someone but IMO Ertz seems like he could be our big receiver target opposite our faster guys like DJax.

Ya, that is crazy news about Romo. Part of me wanted to beat Romo though and had faith he would choke again... however, he is obviously much more talented then Orton so this should be an advantage to us.

Assuming the spread moves from 2.5 to around 4.5 because of this. I hope no Dallas fans are saying "we would have won with Romo" once the game is over.

You think Romos only worth 2 points even jumping the 3? I'd say he is closer to 5 points. I think one book updated it to around 7-7.5.

Ya, you're probably right actually

I know. It just seems like such a whack situation that I'm waiting to hear that Schefter's twitter account was hacked or something..

I think it's the real deal. I am actually starting to feel happy about that Vikings loss now. With all the odds in our favour, I don't think Kelly will allow the guys to take any team lightly or have a let down game after that Minny loss.

Jason Garrett on Tony Romo: “He’s going to get treatment, we’ll see what his status is for Wednesday and this coming week.”

We gave up 48 points to Matt Cassel.

:goodposting:

Pinnacle Sports, which is probably the best off-shore with lines since they let professionals play with them, has it at Eagles -7.5 right now.

7.5? Holy that's a lot of points.

Not trying to throwing a jinx down or getting over confident, but IF we do get past Dallas, who would you guys rather come to town, SF or New O?

Both good Defenses (slight edge to SF due to their rushing D)

New O better Offense and has Drew Brees
SF a long flight away from home and their time zone

New O been pretty bad on the road, especially in open air stadiums.

NO is mediocre on the road. Plus, I think SF can beat SEA so we could potentially host the NFC Championship game.

I'd much rather play New Orleans. Brees and the Saints offense is average at best away from home, outdoors, and in the cold.

Lets not pretend they're the Jaguars now. Saints are still a good team. Playoffs change the pace of the game and Brees has won the Super Bowl. He knows how to kick it up a notch.

Also, lets take care of business in Dallas first.

Rather face NO but as the great Winston Wolf said, "Let's not start sucking each other's d/kks just yet."

Who knows? Orton has NOTHING to lose and nowhere near the pressure Romo would have. The Minnesota game could turn out to be a blessing however since I don't think this team will allow another team to lay in the weeds for them again.

In any case, is this not an amazing season!?

Who would have ever guessed that we'd be playing a week 17 play-in game after the way last year went? And to make things even better, they are crazy exiting to watch.

No one. And if they say they did they're liars. This all still seems like a dream to me and that we're basically playing with house money given our expectations going into this year. It's amazing and I'm loving every minute of it!

this. I know its a bad idea to look ahead, but its just such an amazing situation and frankly I can't help it. NO gives it up on the road and can definitely be scored on... which leads us to Carolina-who is most likely without their heart in Smiff... which leads us to the SF/Seattle game. Definitely think if anyone can get up enough to take Seattle in Seattle, its them. Then they'd have to travel cross country to a let down game in Philly... then 90 minutes up 95.....hah!

Lets just truck neckbeard to start.

I think that whoever is QB for Dallas, the Eagles will have the same general gameplan.
Attack a weak Dallas defense early and try to get out to a big lead before halftime to make the opponent one-dimensional.
It what they've done when they've been successful this year and what they failed to do in Minn.

Yes it has been quite remarkable. I was completely ready for a rebuild of a couple years... this team looks like they could even win a playoff game. Nonetheless, exciting time to be an eagles fan and loving not hearing everyone ##### and complain anymore. I'm gonna really enjoy Sunday nights game!

I don't feel like there is a dominant team in the NFL this year. I would venture to say that Baltimore's Super Bowl win last year was more unlikely than the Eagles winning it all this year. I keep hearing people say that the Eagles future looks so bright that not winning the Super Bowl this year would not be a huge deal. However, things change so quickly in the NFL and its so hard to maintain success that I really think there is a lot of pressure for them to win it this year. This team knows that they can compete with anyone in the NFL this year. They may not be able to say the same thing next year (one or two injuries can change the outlook of an entire season). With all that said, having a true franchise QB should at least get them in the dance most years.

McCoy wins NFC player of the week.

McClane: MT @RLiuNFL: .@Eagles Foles/McCoy/Jackson 1st QB/RB/WR teammates to win NFC Off Player of Week in season since '99 Rams (Warner/Faulk/Bruce)

I gotta give it it up to you guys. Philly is a lot better than Ithought. I wou ldn't be surprised if you make a run in the playoffs. I can't see them get past the 2nd round but it's possible.

@EliotShorrParks: Chip Kelly deserves to be NFL Coach of the Year, and it isn't even close. Here's why- #Eagles http://t.co/QZOUETMIvq
I have always felt strongly that Andy should win this award, but in the last few weeks, Kelly definitely has shown deserving. I still think 2-14 to 12-4/11-5 would be almost equally deserving, especially from a coast roasted by fans/media (not debating if it was deserved or not), and fired then starting fresh on the worst team in the league last year.

However, teams like the Panthers and Eagles who might be claiming their divisions with only slightly better expectations then The Chiefs should definitely be in the talks. Haven't seen a year where you could make valid arguments for 5 coaches winning the award like you can this year... it's gonna be close.

Eagles' D having remarkable success vs. top WRs

Eagle Eye: Team turnaround

December 25, 2013, 11:30 am

Theyre the very best the league has to offer. The biggest, the toughest, the strongest, the fastest.

And, somehow, the Eagles handle them.

Week after week, the Eagles faced stud wide receivers, and week after week, theyve emerged relatively unscathed.

Pierre Garçon one week, Larry Fitzgerald the next. Calvin Johnson one week, then the tag-team duo of Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall.

So far this year, the Eagles have faced nine of the top 20 receivers in the NFL, and -- including Garçon and Victor Cruz twice -- those 11 receivers have averaged about six catches for 75 yards.

Only two of the 11 -- Vincent Jackson and Dez Bryant -- have surpassed 100 receiving yards, and the list doesnt even include Fitzgerald, who the Eagles limited to a relatively painless 5-for-72.

Considering the Eagles allowed the third-most passing yards in NFL history through nine games, their ability to quell some of the greatest receivers of this generation is remarkable.

The Eagles get Bryant again on Sunday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in a game that will determine the NFC East champion.

Every week, it seems like everybody has a receiver thats talked about as one of the best, and as a defensive back, you look at that challenge and thats what you want, cornerback Bradley Fletcher said.

Go out there and play those guys, you want to challenge them and play well and get a win.

The Eagles corners have gotten better and better as the season has gone along, and defensive coordinator Billy Davis on Sunday was able to let Fletcher and Cary Williams handle the Bears two superstar receivers by themselves, which is remarkable considering Jeffery and Marshall this season have a combined 180 receptions for nearly 2,600 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Our corners stepped up on their own and handled them, Davis said. I had a lot of things in the plan, but as I watched it unfold and saw how the corners were holding up, they really were holding up well. I let them out there on their own, and they did a great job.

Neither Jeffery nor Marshall was a factor Sunday in a game the Eagles won 54-11.

Heres a look at the receivers the Eagles have faced this year who rank among the top 20 in the NFL and how theyve fared against the Eagles.

Listed are the wide outs by where they rank, followed by their catches, yards and long gain against the Eagles:

· 2. Calvin Johnson, Lions (3-52; 33)

· 6. Alshon Jeffery, Bears (6-76; 21)

· 7. Demaryius Thomas, Broncos (9-86; 15)

· 9. Pierre Garçon, Redskins (7-64; 17)

· 9. Pierre Garçon, Redskins (6-68; 21)

· 10. Eric Decker, Broncos (5-88; 52)

· 11. Brandon Marshall, Bears (4-36; 14)

· 12. Vincent Jackson, Buccaneers (9-114; 24)

· 15. Dez Bryant, Cowboys (8-110; 19)

· 20. Victor Cruz, Giants (5-48; 14)

· 20. Victor Cruz, Giants (7-86; 26)

Remarkably, even though those receivers caught a combined 69 passes against the Eagles, only two went for more than 26 yards.

The Eagles secondary held Jeffery, Thomas, Garçon, Marshall, Jackson, Bryant and Cruz all without a long catch.

Although the Eagles still rank 30th in the NFL in passing yards allowed, thats to a large degree a product of how many opposing possessions theyve faced, thanks to their no-huddle offense.

By most measures -- completion percentage, sacks, interceptions -- this has evolved into one of the NFLs best pass defenses.

And theyve proved it week after week against the NFLs best receivers.

Its a measuring stick, and me and Fletch and all the guys that come into this building take pride in what we do, and we work hard at what we do, and we go out there and its an opportunity to show the world what weve accomplished and what we can do, Williams said.

We dont shy away from that. We actually invite it. We think its a great challenge, a wonderful opportunity for us to get better. We understand our roles and go out there and meet the challenges that other players present.

As far as Im concerned, its just a mentality, man. Were going to go out there and fight for 60 minutes regardless of whos out in front of us. We dont care about numbers, jersey names, whatever it may be. We just want to play our best football.

The Eagles did get gashed in Minnesota by veteran Greg Jennings, who had 11-for-163, but that was the exception.

The first four weeks of the season, the Eagles allowed six pass plays of 40 yards or more. In 11 games since, theyve allowed three.

Weve certainly come a long way since the days of Nnamdi and DRC, havent we?

This secondary doesnt get intimidated. Whoever they line up against -- no matter how many 1,000-yard seasons they have, no matter how many Pro Bowls theyve been to, no matter how many catches they have -- gets a battle.

In the NFL ... I don't know that you're ever overmatched, Davis said. That that guy's better than you or you're that much better than the other guy.

It's who brings it to the field on Sunday and executes their technique with the passion and aggressiveness that we'd like to have.

We've had ups and downs. I don't think it's attached to who they're playing. I think it's that game and how we approach it.
