Larry Brown won a Super Bowl MVP but isn't a candidate for Canton.

It is relevant based on the post I responded to. Namath and Swann would not be in the HOF without having made plays to win Super Bowls, period. So to bring them up in comparison to Guy opens the door to ask whether or not Guy made comparable impact plays to win Super Bowls. The fact is, he didn't.

Swann made big plays to win the Super Bowl. Namath managed the game in SB III. Watch the game on Youtube or the NFL Network. Namath handed the ball to Matt Snell and Emerson Boozer. The defense made timely picks of Baltimore and the Baltimore field goal kicker, kicked like a high school kicker.

What exactly does "managed the game" mean? He did call the plays. He audibled a number of times. He deftly called plays based upon what the defense was showing. If that is managing the game, then he did great.

Super Bowl XVIII (vs Washington, 1983 season) he nailed 5 punts inside the 20. I don't know what the SB record is but the NFL record is 8. A sixth went to the Redskins 8 after a penalty. 7 punts, 6 ended up inside the 20, and one was a potential game saver.

The 7th? Guy had a pretty famous leaping, athletic one handed grab of an errant snap, getting off a 42 yard punt (TB) probably saving Oakland from a big momentum shift for Washington.

He's in his 8th year. How many as elite? 6? 7?

That's relatively common. He needs some more seasons as a top CB
