Anyone with an opinion on Ryan Shazier? I tried watching my recording of the Orange Bowl vs Clemson, didn't see him involved too much, but I'm not done watching the game yet.

very high ceiling, very inconsistent. Maddening at times. Ogletree like levels at times. Can he be coached up?

Watched every game Shazier played in his career, the dude has a high ceiling. Still has a lot to learn and can be inconsistent at times, as stated above, but he can play. He had 144 tackles this year including 22.5 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles. Last year, in only 12 games, had 115 tackles with 5 sacks, an interception returned for a TD, and 11 passes defensed. As a die-hard Ohio State fan, he has been a bright spot on a very disappointing defense.

There may be a few bumps in the road, but I will be shocked if he isn't out there on Sundays flying around the field for some team. May happen right away, make take a little bit of coaching, but I love this kid.

That's going to be a rough one to watch for him. I thought they abused him in space in that game. When he was playing more conventional offenses he was quick to the ball carrier. I don't know what others are projecting him as, but I like him as a 4-3 WLB that can hopefully beat the MLB to the ball on run plays.

Thanks for the comment about the conventional offense, I was thinking the same thing. It seemed like the plays Clemson ran (screens to Watkins, read option runs) didn't get him in position to make a lot of plays. I'd have to watch it again, but on the long TD run by Boyd, I thought I saw Shazier slow down a bit. Maybe Boyd was already past him, or maybe Shazier realized he wouldn't reach Boyd. Guess I was just expecting to see at least a tackle attempt.

The Buckeye coaching staff did not put their guys in spots to be successful all year long, which also makes his tape a tough read. Sometimes he may have been doing the 'right thing,' but looked bad in the process. The only player I feel good about evaluating on that defense is Roby. If coached up, he has special potential, but he got abused by getting out of position often. Unacceptably often. Love his physicality with the ball carrier, but he needs major help in technique and play diagnosis. He'll still go round 2, maybe even round 1, based on physical traits and lack of supply of CB's, but unless you have some great defensive coaches it's ok to be queezy about this one.

how high will Clowney be taken in FF drafts?
I guess it depends on the scoring (of course). If the IDP players are nearly equal to the offensive players in your league's scoring system, I would imagine he will get drafted relatively high. I think some guys will be very high on him, and will make the pick with the thought ... "How high would I have drafted Watt or JPP back in the day if I had the opportunity to do it again?"

I think I have every potential defensive player listed in my "Draft Spreadsheet" at the following link:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AotIVo4gpWF8dFZBTDhmM01WeU9CMzliOEZMNVByS1E&gid=44

When I have the time, I look for game film. The players that are highlighted......the links lead to a game cut-up via Draft Breakdown or something like a highlight video. On the far right, I've listed the PR. For pass rushers (DT, DE, OLB), it's the average of each players sacks & TFLs over their career. For the other positions, I calculated the per game average for tackles in the 2013 season.

I've also linked scouting reports / rankings from various draftniks throughout the year....they can be found here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AotIVo4gpWF8dFZBTDhmM01WeU9CMzliOEZMNVByS1E&gid=40

Full games broken down by week:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AotIVo4gpWF8dFZBTDhmM01WeU9CMzliOEZMNVByS1E&gid=46

You can also follow the links via the tabs across the top of the spreadsheet.

If I'm missing a player, give me a heads up.

If he is paired with JJ Watt, bump Houston Defense and Clowney in your top 15 IDP DE's, the defense suffered once Cushing was out for the season with a knee injury, one wonders if he will fully recover, but he was the one making the defensive calls.

i gotta think he hes gotta be just outside the 1st 5 LBs, if not he might be in a couple of teams this summer

For those interested in "Production" type metrics, I did something a little different for the LB group. It's pretty easy to follow. I threw some guys in that played DE at the collegiate level that "could" be moved to 3/4 backer. For me personally, I was surprised how productive Jackson Jeffcoat was last season. For D1 players, he finished #2 behind Mack. Here's the list fwiw:

If I'm missing someone, let me know.

Yes very nice.

Can someone tell me about Shayne Skov?
Cecil Lammey touched on Stanford MLB Shane Skov on his 'Riding Shotgun' ESPN program Sunday.

Go to around the 24 minute mark.

2014 Volume#33a - Ridin Shotgun 3/30/2014 - Jace Davis interview (#2102)

In This Episode: Cecil Lammey discusses the latest news and notes from around the NFL, free agency and NFL draft. Topics Include - an interview with Northern Colorado wide receiver Jace Davis as he prepares for the NFL draft, a discussion about the prospects of Montee Ball in 2014, will the rule change that eliminated cut blocking at the line of scrimmage hurt the draft prospects of smaller offensive linemen, plus more!

He says that Skov is basically a 2-down thumper who can't cover. He think Skov should go in the 3rd round.

Cecil also mentions Borland because one of his callers mentioned a mock where Borland goes to the Broncos at the end of the 1st round but Lammey doesn't see him going that high. He sees Borland as a short LBer who doesn't cover much better than Skov.

I don't think he said where Borland might go but it seems he'd be taken before Skov from his comments.
