**2015 MLB Season Thread: This is how the chapter ends

Houston to remove Tal's Hill

Earlier Thursday, it was revealed that the Astros are planning to eliminate the polarizing Tal's Hill from their playing surface, moving in the center-field fence to around 410 feet up against the warning track. That puts the hill and currently-in-play flag pole into home run territory.

The Houston franchise is evolving
I always liked the hill, hated the flagpole. There were some fun catches and non-catches out there. But get the reason to get rid of it all.

The nearest minor league team to me is South Bend, which has an odd history. They started as the South Bend White Sox and just this year became the South Bend Cubs... but in between spent 20 years as a Dbacks affiliate.

South Bend does seem like a strategic spot for a Chicago team to keep prospects nearby and lure Indiana fans, but the same could be said for a lot of the Midwest League.
About 15 years ago, I went to a Trenton Thunder game when they were the Red Sox affiliate. I said, why is the sox team in New Jersey while the Yankees team is in Norwich? A couple years later, they traded teams. Just never made sense why it was ever set up any other way in the first place. Did they really think a bunch of jerseysans would be excited to see boston's stars of tomorrow?

This the same guy that used to pitch for or Staten Island? I think that's who it was anyway. Hilarious video against a switch hitter some years ago.

Scary #### what happened to the mom at the sox game. I hope she pulls thru
This is sure to spark the debate about whether there should be better protection down the baselines. It took a girl getting killed by a puck in Columbus to force the NHL to mandate protective netting behind the goals in all arenas.

I actually saw a kid do this in a HS all-star game about a decade ago. Grabbed a screaming liner while pitching left-handed, then after the out he took a couple of steps toward his dugout and flipped the glove in and got a new one. We all assumed he had broken his glove, then did a double-take when he struck out the next kid right-handed.

Been offered Todd Frazier, David Price and Greg Holland for Josh Donaldson in a keeper league. Frazier, Price and Holland are expiring contracts, Donaldson is good at $40 until 2018.

Scoring cats:

HR, OPS, R, SB, RBI

QS, Whip, K/9, S, ERA

My Roster:

C Montero

1B Duda, LaRoche

2B Altuve, DTravis

3B Donaldson, Zimmerman

SS Hechavarria

OF JUpton, CGomez, Gordon, Burns, Marisnick

U Ortiz, Paredes

SP McHugh, Wacha, Lynn, DeGrom, Heston, DNorris, Haren

RP Street, AMiller, Betances, FRodriguez

We start: C,1B,2B,SS, 3B, 4OF, 2U, 5SP, 4RP.

This trade will bolster my SP, give me another source of Saves, and lose a bit of WAR at 3B.

Salary cap is not an issue. If I make this move, I will likely have to make another move to go for it this year.

Is it a $260 pool league? I think you do that trade, it helps you in two areas and Frazier is not a drastic fall off from Donaldson.

Bumgarner has finished two innings and thrown 14 pitches.

Phillies' starter Severino Gonzalez has just been lifted after 2 2/3 and throwing 83 pitches.

edit: Bumgarner now at 24 pitches through 3. Severino Gonzalez now tossed in a ditch somewhere.

Roto, I assume. How far are you from first place?

I believe in his last start, Felix was thru 3 in 21 pitches...then proceeded to get shellacked.

In the 4th, Bumgarner went ahead and gave up a grand slam to Jeff ####### Francoeur.

Can't believe I had to sweat my SF -1.5 play after the start to that game, thought I had the cruise control set.

$287. Money is not an issue, since we can only keep 6 from year to year. I hate to give up Donaldson, but at $40, I can replace him next year at the same $$ or less.

The three I am acquiring are all expiring contracts, so money is not an issue.

Yeah, you're not going to net much if any profit on Donaldson at $40 for the next 3 years, it makes a lot of sense.

Should be noted that Holland's had some issues this year. Walks way up, fewer swings out of the zone and more contact on the swings people are taking. And his velocity is lower than last year, and lower now than it was at the beginning of the season.

The Gallo: 3ks and a dinger

I wanna believe this guy is Teixiera in his prime, but I keep seeing Russell Branyon.

Good call on branyan. That guy would basically swing through the middle of the zone on every pitch and hope that the ball ended up there.

Not that gallo does exactly that, but I find his swing to be long and not really built for fealing with the variations in major league pitching. At least in the few at bats I've seen.
