Some really good artists, but few that warrant HOF material IMO. As usual, the HOF continues to ignore worthy multi-million-selling nominees like Chicago, Deep Purple, Yes, Styx and The Moody Blues, among others. Weak.

Mostly don't give two ####s about the r&r hof, except the actual museum is really cool, and I will commit murder if Bon Jovi is ever inducted.

I've voting: Kraftwerk, Kraftwerk and Kraftwerk. Arguably (outside of Lou) the most influential band on that list.

and maybe Lou and Stevie-Ray.

I don't like Bon Jovi either, but they have every right to be in the HOF considering how many megamillions of albums/songs they've sold.

Lou Reed

Kraftwerk

The Smiths
I would agree with these three when you consider influence. Obviously record sales are not going to be a factor here.
I'm a Smiths fan... but I think Stevie-Ray goes in front of them. Otherwise, the same list as mine. I'm not a fan or non-fan, but Green Day will be there too, soon.

If Kraftwerk get elected, will they use holograms or robots to accept? I hope so.

I won't bother making my case for Joan Jett, but if Sting makes the HOF as a solo artist, they should rename it the "Easy Listening Artists That You Can't Believe Used to Play Rock & Roll Hall of Fame."

Lou Reed

Kraftwerk

The Smiths

I don't think SRV was around long enough to get in there, but the HOF criteria is obviously wacky and inconsistent.

True about Green Day.

Lou's already in with VU, does anything in his solo career really warrant inclusion?

I don't think so And I'm a Lou fan.
Now that you mention it, Lou's had a lot of influential solo albums, but I would agree that he really made his bones as the heart and soul of VU. Should be sufficient.

Still, he's one of those guys that the HOF loves, so he'll probably get in solo regardless.

He was around way longer than Hendirx was and is arguably the greatest guitar player since.

Hendrix is in a class by himself in terms of influence - night and day. A lot of people point to SRV's incredible playing, but Hendrix influenced a whole generation and beyond of guitar players.

I didn't vote for NIN simply because I don't consider it rock.

otherwise not a bad top 6.

That record he made with Metallica won't be held against him?

I think the mistake they made was calling it the R&R hall and not another more encompassing title. This leads to years of people wondering how "rock" some of these otherwise very talented artists are.

I didn't see Bill Withers in there... voted him instead of Lou, plus Kraftwerk and SRV.

looks like there's no way Kraftwerk goes in... but I still think they've influenced music more than any other band there

How in the hell are Jethro Tull, Chicago, Yes and the Moody Blues not in HoF already?

The Monkees deserve to be there as well.

The whole idea of a RnR HoF is dumb anyway...

The average joe probably doesn't even know who Kraftwerk is.

Good thing voters are only a portion of the process.

I don't like Bon Jovi either, but they have every right to be in the HOF considering how many megamillions of albums/songs they've sold.
If record sales is the only criterion, lots of crappy bands will end up getting inducted though. There needs to be some standard of quality, innovation, influencing other artists etc., or it will become a huge joke. Oh wait...

Record sales isn't the only factor based on the inductees already there, but should be a major factor if it's a hall of fame. I think we can all agree though that it's a popularity contest among the dorks running the place.

Don't we go through this every year?

1. The R&R HOF is basically the "Popular Music HOF". Stop b itching that certain acts don't fall into what you consider "Rock".

2. Some acts get in, some don't. Who knows why. The selections have always been pretty goofy.

true.

I actually just heard somebody blasting Trans Europe Express from their car over the weekend. I'm so used to indeterminate hip-hop or reggaeton, I actually jumped up and tried to find the car to listen along.

Huge Lou Reed fan. He doesn't belong for his solo work. Neither does Sting.
Yeah Sting's solo stuff is Lite FM forgettable tripe.
He's had a couple catchy tunes, but I am most entertained by his interviews and how he plays along with the douchefest theme and then watching him play and sing at the same time. He's one of those pat-the-head/rub-the-stomach to the nth degree guys. I don't know how he does it. He's a freak in that sense. Also saw him open for the GD six or seven times and he had a killer band.

His first solo stuff with that all-star jazz band was decently eye-opening crossover stuff at the time... but turned yucky really fast.

That's a good way to describe him, and I'd say Geddy Lee as well. Their ability to effortlessly play intricate bass parts while singing simultaneously is a marvel to watch.

Simultaneously playing bass and singing is child's play compared to having 24 hour tantric orgasms

If Hitler was still alive I bet I know which one of these artists he'd vote for.
