***2016 MLB Playoff thread: Cubs win for first time since sliced bread hit market (2 Viewers)

PLUG FOR THE BASEBALL FORUM:

Yeah we have a lot of nerds there but it doesn't get very Shark Poolish that often.  Not at that volume anyway.

We focus on fantasy baseball, adds/drops, streaming, and trades.  Dynasty, keeper leagues, roto, H2H, we talk about it.

There are alos team threads where you can  and :pickle: given the day.  It's a good space, even @the moops and @RnR make sense sometimes.  Check it out, then maybe you'll know who Corey Kluber is.  ;)

All stoves go on sale next week

And @tjnc09, I'm not kidding. I've been paying attention to your picks. I just happened to pick the low fruit with commenting on the Pats / Steeler one. I've reloaded solely to fade you. Profit + shtick is a great combination.

Plus, I was probably posting in that thread before you got your first pube.

Kinda like your teams but maybe at times just a nice / sincere dude.

It's  obv you seek tj's approval. Youre probably the same guy but that's a Dr. Phil or Springer kinda deal.

Wish it was Kevorkian but he passed unfortunately before your time
:oldunsure:

Patriots were the squarest non-primetime game books have ever seen.  It's no wonder you had to reload :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

can we go back to overreacting to one win
Rostering Schwarber, much less hitting him fifth, was a huge mistake and borderline firable offense for whomever activated him.

Roberto Perez had the greatest 2-HR Series game for a catcher since Gene Tenace.

Must-win for the Cubs tomorrow.  Pretty much impossible to expect a 103-win to take four out of five, even with three of those games at home.

Series MVP is Kluber's to lose.

Cubs see what they are up against tonight, and they can't like it.  Sure they get Bauer tomorrow and Josh Tomlin after that but those guys have been pretty good.  Indians grind out runs and that is a team you can't get behind.  They put up three early and you are playing into their hands.  And they do it all the time, all year, they do that!  So if you get five from Bauer, and he only gives up a run, you're screwed.  If they can get Salazar to be effective as a bridge then the Cubs are in trouble, Salazar has some of the best raw stuff in baseball and that's a dude you don't want available in this series.

But the Cubs have the answer: Schwarber, the Lamborghini of hitting

Anyways, I have better things to do.  Try not to follow me around anymore so I can let these guys enjoy the World Series. :bye:

I like both of you but please, take this to a cage or something.  We have baseball to discuss here, not you two wanting to jack each other off.

The series basically starts tonight. All that happened last night was the Indians now have a chance in this series. The Indians are, of course, a very good baseball team, but the Cubs came in heavy, heavy favorites for a reason. Indians taking Game 1, as they pretty much had to, now we've got a series.

I like Bauer, but him giving up a 6 spot tonight would be no shock.

I'm pretty pumped at the idea of a Tomlin-Hendricks showdown in a potential swing Game 3. Love those two guys. A 1-0 battle filled with painted, dancing 86 MPH fastballs in the first WS game at Wrigley since the color barrier was broken is going to be a sight to behold.

I know.  But the Cubs are much better at baseball than every other team, including the really good ones. Doesn't mean they'll win the Series of course, but it's true. This is the best team we've seen in a long time. Cubs are slight favorites on the road tonight with their #3 starter facing the Indians' #1 starter. That speaks volumes.
Nope, not volumes.  Just one sentence:

Cleveland leads the World Series one game to none.

:coffee:

If you expected the Cubs to curb-stomp the Tribe to a title, you were sadly mistaken. Consider this your wake-up call.

Kluber looked amazing last night. What was his final pitch count, 85? Only used Miller for 2 innings until the game was secured. Then Allen for an inning. They're in a good spot this morning.

Not worried. They nickel-and-dimed a couple runs off Lester in the first. Cubs couldn't get it done with RISP (1 for 11). That stuff's not going to happen every day.

Hope they get the game in tonight!

Fell asleep in the 8th, but great baseball game.  These teams are fun to watch.  I remember when my team was fun to watch........

I wonder if Miller is even available tonight.
Francona will probably be cagey about it.  After 46 pitches with lousy command last night, it's hard to imagine Miller facing more than a couple hitters tonight.  However, it is the Series and CLE gave up a lot to have him this week.  Suck it up, you ostrich-looking MFer.

Possible Francona is betting on winning Games 1, 4, and 7 with Kluber-Miller-Allen, and then hope to get lucky in one of the other games.  Seems risky, but we've seen worse strategy deployed in the postseason.

This exactly. I was a bit surprised they used Miller as long as they did. And that they used Allen at all. But it makes a bit more sense in the context of the series plan.

That's the nastiest I've seen Kluber all year.  Great command.  Breaking ball working off the fastball.  His stuff was working back toward and on to the plate while Lester's was working around it like it typically does.  Probably why Lester seemed to be getting squeezed a bit.

Arrieta is a similar pitcher to Kluber.  If he doesn't have his good command he's extremely hittable once he gets behind in the count and/or starts walking people.  He's also easy to run on.

I would expect the Cubs to get to Bauer and Tomlin in a big way the next two games though.

The Cubs offense is better suited to beat the Tribe than the Jays offense was.

But I want to point out that Jays fans were saying the same thing after game 1.

If Allen was on 1-2 days' rest instead of 6, we probably wouldn't have seen him last night.  Also, it was 3-0 when they were warming him up and didn't have anyone else getting loose.  So even though it seems weird bringing in Allen to pitch the 9th with a 6-run lead, the decision to get him ready was made when the game was a lot closer.

Allen is probably good for an inning tonight, maybe four outs if the situation warrants it.  Travel tomorrow so it's fine if he pitches back-to-back days, knowing he's off tomorrow.

I've always been a HUGE Cleveland Indians fan.

In fact, I'm wearing my Albert Belle jersey right now at work (he's still on the team, right?).

Or he's planning to sweep this thing in 4. It's the only way he knows.
