2017 Streaming Defenses (1 Viewer)

Grabbed the Chargers anywhere they were available.  The Bills are an absolute mess right now.  And, it's not so much about the game being at home for the Chargers, but rather that it's not on the road.  Would be a totally different story if they were playing in Buffalo.  Against a rookie QB, I see them stacking the box to shut down McCoy, and when BUF is forced to throw, Bosa and Ingram will make things very uncomfortable for the Bills offense.
Then there’s this from Schefter this morning.

Bills uncertain whether TE Charles Clay  and WR Jordan Matthews, both questionable for Sunday, can play vs. Chargers, per source. Team wants to test them pregame before it decides.

I have the Bengals right now for this week vs Denver and then Week 12 vs the Browns.

You think the Eagles are a better play the rest of the way?
I'm pairing these two together. I don't feel there is a set it and forget it play out there besides JAX but this combo looks nice:

WK11: Cincy @ Den

WK12: CLE @ Cincy OR CHI @ Philly

wk13: Pit @ Cincy or Philly @ SEA (Neither matchup is good so you might have to suck it up)

WK14: CHI @ Cincy

WK15 Philly @ NYG

WK 16 Again, neither have a good matchup but if I've gotten this far, I'll find a streamer

I've got the Eagles and Bengals paired in one league as well.

I've got Eagles and Broncos paired in another.

I'm pairing DET with CAR right now:

Week 11: DET @ CHI

Week 12: CAR @ NYJ

Week 13: DET @ BAL

Week 14: DET @ TB

Week 15: CHI @ DET or GB @ CAR

Week 16: DET @ CIN or TB @ CAR

Anyone throwing the KC D in there today?

With 50 mph wind gusts and NYG with no S. Sheppard I'm thinking this could be a play. Also, NYG missing a starting O lineman and E. Apple inactive.

Had BALT in there @GB but I'm starting to feel like Hundley may be competent / mistake free.

It's automatic. Have KC D in today.  Starting the Pats the following 3 weeks.

I know this is the streaming thread, but is SEA a drop now with Chancellor and Sherman out for the season?

Okay boys and girls. Who we got?

Some of these teams should be available on your wire.

I’ve been rolling Detroit, but I absolutely HATE having to start them against my Vikings as I’m 6-7 beers deep on thanksgiving with nothing to do by cheer and get fat.

Switched from New England to KC in another league and KC has shown zero life these past few weeks.

Decent options.

New England Vs Miami: this seems juicy and wish I would have held last week

Cinci Vs The Browns

Tastiest option on paper. Browns have been an excellent team to stream against.

Atlanta Vs Tampa Bay: Atlanta didn’t look too hot last night, but lots of it came from special teams, dumb penalties, and inability to cover Russell Wilson scrambles. Fitzpatrick is not RW.

Washington Vs New York Giants

Carolina @ Jets

Ten @ Ind

Didnt get to watch much of the other 3 teams and Indy seems to be on a slight uptick, but I’d probably take one of the 3 home teams before an away game. Carolina coming off the bye could be nice.

Philladelphia magically available in one of my leagues (likely because I play with a lot of cowboys fans) and I will target them but seems there’s some good options if you are streaming this week.

LAC this week?  I guess the status of the LT will say a lot on this decision.
The reason I didn’t add them was because in my three leagues they were snatched up for a prime matchup, performed well beyond expectations, and I’d imagine they won’t be dropped. But you never know.

I had picked up the Bengals specifically for this week, but now that I was able to nab Baltimore when they were dropped during their bye, I think I have to roll them out. One thing I've noticed about the Ravens is that they're the polar opposite of the Bengals. Cinci is a solid ~10pt/week option every week (even against the Browns in their first meeting). The Ravens are dominant against bad offenses, but aggressively mediocre when they play someone good. So they're a definite sit next week vs. Pittsburgh, but a really attractive one this week vs. Houston.

Of course, now that I've ID'd this trend, watch the Ravens get steamrolled while the Bengals score three TDs and take a punt return to the house.

Soooooo.... four TDs?

I have to choose between

Philly vs CHI

Cincy vs Clev

Tough problem to have I know. Philly has to be it though. Maybe put Cincy in the flex  :D

See my comments above re: Cinci. They're solid, but with limited upside. I'd go with Philly as the momentum play. When a team is cutting a swathe of destruction through the rest of the league, sit back and enjoy the ride.

By limited upside do you mean run 100 yards with INTs only to drop it at the 101st yard to score a TD? Ahh, you have a point there.

Good play this week and I like them Week 14 over my main DST, BAL. Might drop LAC for them but man I love that team's pass rush. Plus the Bengals haven't really had elite production this year; good output when they have favorable matchups, nothing like we have seen from the Chargers, Jags, Lions, and Ravens this year.

LOL. Yeah, without that fumble last week looks much better. Still, the fact remains that Cinci DST has scored between 7 and 14 points in all but three games this year (those games all came against teams with elite Ds that shut down the Cinci offense and controlled the game).

I'm sure they'll do fine against Cleveland. In fact, if you're a heavy favorite I'd recommend starting them because there's almost no way it goes poorly. But I think there are better upside plays.

Cincinnati vs Cleveland
Pittsburgh vs Green Bay

Which is the better D this week?
I have the same decision. Bengals D cost last week with the 100 yard INT return that they then dropped at the 1 yard line. Bengals have the slightly better match-up, but I think the Steelers are the better dedense (all things being equal). And the Packers with Hundley have looked dreadful. Leaning Steelers at the moment.

I don't think I have ever seen a week where Vegas has some many huge favorites..

WAS (-7) vs. NYG

CIN (-8.5) vs. CLE

PHI (-13.5) vs. CHI

NE (-16.5) vs. MIA

KC (-10) vs. BUF

ATL (-9.5) vs. TB

SEA (-7) @ SF

PIT (-14) vs. GB

BAL (-7) vs. HOU

That's quite honestly insane.

That WAS vs NYG line should go up to -10 by Thurs.

Agree. CLE covering that spread against a CIN team that has been thoroughly unimpressive all year seems like a great bet.

Cleveland Defense is actually very underrated. They haven't given up 400 yards all year. They have had no 300 yard passers against them and Fournette last week was the first runner to get 100 yards against them but he needed a crap load of carries to do it. The thing that is killing the Browns is the turnovers. But I agree they should cover.

Love the Bengals this week but Eagles are available on WW. I agree they are the better play ROS but is it worth putting a claim in and dropping the Bengals for Week 12?

I created a spreadsheet to see if I can find defensive pairings. It takes into account points allowed to DSTs over the past 5 weeks. If a box is highlighted in green it's a home game, yellow an away game. Clearly, I want to lean on home defenses if possible.

I had to use discretion and still count ARI, GB and CHI as plus match-ups (not sure about CHI) despite them not allowing many points to opposing DSTs lately. It's according Yahoo scoring settings as well.

Some that I like where the defenses are possibly widely available..

TEN + WAS

GBSSND did this lovely spreadsheet.  Looks like you mainly want weeks 13 and 14.  GB, SF, CHI and NE (if available) would appear to be the best bets.

Who pairs well with Ravens for Ros?

Can you keep both? I prefer Eagles this week (though Bengals are fine, too), but they do still have to play the Rams in Week 14, when Cinci has Chicago. Week 13 isn't great for either team.

If you have to stick with one for ROS, I'd go Eagles, just because there's a decent chance they'll win out, which is what you want in your DST. But if I were you I'd try to mix and match.

Stupid Question. What does the % mean?

Also, it’s a bit counterintuitive because it doesn’t highlight green as a positive matchup - that’s just the home games. Yellow is not neutral, that’s away games.

I kind of get your point, but I assume that he is baking in the home and away as a factor in the quality of the matchup.  So a home game against a weak opponent is a clear favorable.  An away game against a weak opponent is a decent matchup.  At least that's how I interpret it.

It’s lazy analysis. There’s no correlation between home/away and DST FF performance. Let me illustrate.

Lets look at 2017 elite DST performance (20.00+ points) and number of times that occurred on the road:

JAX 5/4 (5 elite, 4 on the road - “home” = UK)

BAL 5/2

PHI 3/2

PIT 3/2

LAR 3/1

DET 2/2

LAC 2/0

NO 3/1

SEA 1/0

CAR 3/3

HOU 2/0

CHI 2/1

TB 2/0

ATL 1/0

DAL 2/2

KC 1/0

NYJ 1/0

WAS 1/0

NYG 1/1

MIA 1/0

CIN DEN MIN CLE ARI GB BUF NE TEN IND SF OAK 0/0

44 elite DST performances this year

23 home

21 away

(& if we count JAC in London as road it’s 22-22)

All that said, @SameSongNDance has been doing yeoman work this year. I’ve relied heavily on his snap count / utilization / targets / market share analysis. Stellar stuff & doing it just because he loves it. Also, he’s not a box score analyst - he actually watches All 22s every week.

No disrespect intended, GB. Just wanted to bring that to light.
