Thanks, didn't know that. Still...He's coached at Arkansas State and Texas.
Assistant <> HC. He's about to encounter pressure, expectations and competition the likes of which he has never seen. He's coached at Arkansas State and Texas.
I'm kinda surprised by this. He went to HS in Boise, was QB at BSU. Never saw him leaving. Would love to Kellen Moore become BSU coach. Thanks, didn't know that. Still...
4 years and then somebody else. He has no experience recruiting east of the Mississippi. How is he going to just jump right into the sec?? Makes no sense. Recruiting is 75% of this. What are the expectations for Harsin at Auburn?
Gus also consistently recruited classes in the top 8-12...and now TAMU has Fisher and Ole Miss has Kiffin and MSU has Leach. Will be tough to stay at that level.Guys Malzhan went 3-4 against Alabama and he got fired. I wish him all the luck in the world but he's about to enter an inferno.
Yea I really think this is a terrible hire for Auburn. He did ok at Boise, not great, and Peterson laid the foundation there and they took a step back. He’s never recruited this part of the country. Wtf is Auburn thinking?Gus also consistently recruited classes in the top 8-12...and now TAMU has Fisher and Ole Miss has Kiffin and MSU has Leach. Will be tough to stay at that level.
Better than rehashing Muschamp but will be an interesting fit.
That they'll keep on setting crazy expectations that the next guy won't be able to meet later.Yea I really think this is a terrible hire for Auburn. Don't think they took a step back at all. Boise never had recruited a "4 star" player until Harsin got there. Boise St has a lot of NFL players under Harsin. Guessing 20 in 7 years. (I think there are six on DALL)Yea I really think this is a terrible hire for Auburn. He did ok at Boise, not great, and Peterson laid the foundation there and they took a step back. It appears he’s keeping many key staff members for one thing. Probably helps recruiting but man that’s got to be a tough thing to mesh in to your strategy as a head coach.Yea I really think this is a terrible hire for Auburn. Well as a Cowboys fan let me be the first to say I'm not sure Dallas has NFL players this yearDon't think they took a step back at all. They've had a lot of injuries to key players the past 2-3 years on both sides.
Also, the foundation was laid before Peterson got there. He walked into some great teams also. I rate them pretty even. Peterson didn't do that great in Wash.
I think he relates to the kids 5x better than Peterson did. I think he will surprise in the recruiting, but don't know if he could ever get to Bama level.
Shoulda kept stealing those signs from Jimbo.another perfect example of gus ####### up a sure thing.
Well written and utterly damning look at Auburn hiring processCapella said:Yea I really think this is a terrible hire for Auburn. He did ok at Boise, not great, and Peterson laid the foundation there and they took a step back. He’s never recruited this part of the country. Wtf is Auburn thinking?
Wow. Jesus.Well written and utterly damning look at Auburn hiring process
@JTalty: Even before Gus Malzahn was fired, the battle over who'd get to pick the next Auburn head coach had begun.
After talking to numerous sources, here's the story on the push to fire Malzahn and quickly promote Kevin Steele, and why it didn't work.

It seems like a situation where the boosters had way too much sway over the football program.Well written and utterly damning look at Auburn hiring process

Sounds a lot like what I read about the situation at Texas. A lot of big money thinking they should have influence. The big boosters should just be the bag men and stay out of coaching decisions. Like Bama. ( @gump )Well written and utterly damning look at Auburn hiring process

We had the same problem...Saban solved it quickly. There were a couple of salty OSU fans on twitter outraged that Justin Fields didn't make the final cut. Even with my anti-OSU bias, I would not take him over the 3 QBs that made the final four. Seventh is where he should be in the voting.Current odds of the 4 official Heisman finalists (Trask made it):
DeVonta Smith (Alabama) -180
Mac Jones (Alabama) +155
Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) +1600
Kyle Trask (Florida) +2700
I can’t believe they still play a game at the Cramton...that thing is ancient and shows it.Fun Fact: Carmelia is the state flower of Alabama, even though it was imported from Asia.
A slightly better version of Legion Field (if it still exists)?I can’t believe they still play a game at the Cramton...that thing is ancient and shows it.
The Old Gray Lady does amazingly still exist, home of the UAB Blazers (and the coach who just turned down Auburn and their fancy video board). The Cramton is like the lower bowl of Legion. Lots of gray concrete.A slightly better version of Legion Field (if it still exists)?
I'm interested to hear if the coach lost his mind or if the RB just decided he wanted to score a TD.Liberty just hilariously choked a win away.
Seems like a really good hire to me...although his personality along side Harbaughs will be fun.
Which is why I laughed at @BroncoFreak_2K3's post.Seems like a really good hire to me...although his personality along side Harbaughs will be fun.
He's had like one year where his defense has been decent since he left Florida. Sure, he can still recruit, but I don't think UM's problems are the jimmy and joes.Seems like a really good hire to me...although his personality along side Harbaughs will be fun.
Agreed!!He's had like one year where his defense has been decent since he left Florida. Sure, he can still recruit, but I don't think UM's problems are the jimmy and joes.
Harbaugh and Muschamp are both coaches unwilling to adopt their tactics as football evolves around them. Should be fun.
No...see Desert Power’s last paragraph. It’ll be like a real life Odd Couple.Something funny about the Twitter posting ?
Yea does seem like aNo...see Desert Power’s last paragraph. It’ll be like a real life Odd Couple.
Completely legal, of course. Sucks for him that Dabo's better at it.2 good games today.
Meanwhile, things heating up a bit more between OSU and Clemson...Day noting Venebles rep for stealing signs.
You'd be wrong if you're including development in that part of the equation....woefully wrong. He's had like one year where his defense has been decent since he left Florida. Sure, he can still recruit, but I don't think UM's problems are the jimmy and joes.

Meaning they aren't developing while in Ann Arbor? You'd be wrong if you're including development in that part of the equation....woefully wrong.
