*** 2021/22 Stanley Cup NHL Thread **** Congrats 2022 Avs Cup Champs! (1 Viewer)

I think I hate the New York Rangers now and want them to lose. I've never seen a teen so obviously get worse in the name of tuffness.

Obviously their whole offseason was this but dressing Jarred Tinordi over Nils Lundkvist is just the latest example of them galaxy braining "the code" or whatever.

Washington didn't leave  Hendrix Lapierre on the bench in favour of some crash and bang forward and he just put the game away.

actually, i thought they looked pretty decent, but dressing tinordi and playing seorsieve seem odd.  i don’t care about the back to back right now, you sign shesterkin to a nice deal and you play the human sieve?  as soon as i saw 40 i knew this was over.

I think the Kravtsov situation is a bit more nuanced and complicated, but there's blame on both sides there.

Onto the game vs WAS, oof. That's my only reaction. Made my eyes bleed.

yeah, is this where we declare the Rangers seasons is over and Goodrow was possibly the worst free agent signing ever?  Tinordi is simply terrible, I don't even think he's Hartford worthy.  Nemeth is a waste of space.  And yeah, the Rangers decide to toughen up at the expense of all offense.  They only looked threatening on the pp, which is something they will be great at this year, but 5v5, terrible.  Reaves and Blais were fine, they did what they were paid to do, but outside of Kakko and maybe Chytil, Rangers didn't look any good at all.  Not sure why Igor didn't start game 1 either.  And Kravtsov has shown he can play at the international level with KHL talent and be a good player.  He obviously wants a chance to show it at the NHL and get paid (read Kaprizov), but if he getting buried on the 3rd line with the likes of Blais and Goodrow, well, that's going to be a hard sell.  He hasn't proven anything obviously, but I think the talent is certainly there.  Rangers should be able to get a bag of pucks for him.

Impressed with how natural Gretzky's hair looked in the TNT studio - couldn't tell that he's 60 at all - nosiree.

Kotkaniemi on the first line tonight with Aho and Necas, Carolina really trying to make this happen eh?

that 2nd line looks pretty great now

Svechnikov/Trochek/Teravainen

(only 1 player from their "top line" is also on their top PP unit)

NHL players by birth country breakdown: https://twitter.com/wyshynski/status/1448668459127214086

I didn't realize there is technically a UK player in the league - I say technically because is Nathan Walker actually going to play and he was born there but didn't live there long, though it's equally cool if you attribute him to Australia.

More players from Finland than Russia.

Roughly 3 out of 7 players in the league is Canadian, hasn't been over 50% for a long time.

Arthur Kaliyev first Uzbekistan player since Maxim Mayorov?

And... as the Wysh tweet says, I also thought there were more than 10 Swiss players in the league.

Why is Seth Jones so bad now?
:goodposting:   I've been wondering this too.  I remember seeing him vs. the Caps during the first round of their cup run in 2018 and thinking he looked as good as any defenseman I've seen and all of a sudden he's just a guy.

Was Reaves paid to get piggyback rides from Nick Jensen?  That's about all I saw him do last night.
:)   That's fair.  But Reaves was not a negative player ( 0 +/-), led the team in hits, had a block and zero pim.  More than I saw out of Goodrow who is getting paid like 5x as much for what 4-5 more years.  Last night was a disaster for the Rangers for sure.

Anybody going to the Kings game vs. the Wild Saturday night in LA?  I'll be in town and tix are dirt cheap on Stubhub, so I'm probably going to go.

Recently signed up for ESPN+.  Signed into my account on my laptop.  Can't get a single game to come up and play.  What am I doing wrong?

Closed down my browser and reopened it and it seems to work now.  Still tells me to "Get ESPN+" when I go to pick a broadcast, but it seems to be working.

Sabres and Blue Jackets are absolute wagons this year.  Eastern Conference Finalists, calling it now.

Grubauer standing on his head in the third for the Kraken. Seattle no shots on goal in third, have iced it about 25 times up 3-2

Don’t call it a comeback, they’ve been here for years! Tampa plays a pretty awful game, but storms back from 2 separate 3 goal deficits to beat Detroit in OT, 7-6!

Not a great hit on him leading up to it, but you can't go off and sucker punch a guy either.

Entertaining game even though the Wings choked it away.  I'm actually more optimistic for this season after that game than I was going into the season.  When Vrana comes back we might actually have a couple lines that can score goals.

Joseph definitely boarded him, which is why I was surprised he didn’t get a 5 minute break as well, but square up with the guy, and settle it that way.

I actually thought the Palat hit on Rasmussen later on was a worse than the one Joseph gave but Palat only got 2 minutes for that one.

The Blues beat Colorado last night, but not before getting bailed out from blowing a 4-1 lead by a questionable goal kicking call. I can tell this team is going to be garbage again. 13 million invested in a Faulk/Krug pairing that gets caved in on defense and can’t get out of the zone… and for like 6 more years too. Won a cup with giants on defense and dismantled it overnight.

First period of Edmonton/Calgary was entertaining last night.  Andersson has to get a couple of games for that headbutt on Yammer, no?  If not, Dylan Larkin would like a word.

saw bits of this game, binnington’s glove looked crazy sharp.  bodes well if he is good again.

here we go again

@Erik_Erlendsson: Hearing the initial word on Nikita Kucherov is not positive and surgery could be involved. Assuming that's accurate, I'd expect him to miss some time moving forward, should know more later today #GoBolts #TBLightning
