2025 Detroit Lions: 0-0 HOF Game on tape, as DC said..."We got work to do" (37 Viewers)

Based on the 29/21 breakdown on defense/offense I would guess any additions going forward would be on offense. 🤷

Reynolds is probably a handshake crew

if you release a vested veteran they're a free agent who can sign with anyone

but if they know they're going to IR-R a player (Iffy) you have a handshake agreement with the vested vet he'll get added back (the Ravens have a couple handshake-type agreements every year and then sign veterans back after they complete their IR moves)

if they IR Iffy before the final 53-man then he goes on season ending IR (like Sudfeld)

EDIT - Julian Okwara is also injured, could be another IR-R candidate

Edit 2 - IR-R moves have to be made after 4pm Wednesday to open up a roster spot (the initial 53 man can't change for 24 hours), so we might not know their intentions until Thursday

RB seems a little light even with the FB.

Both RB and WR. Kind of expected because they had too many DL they had to keep. I was surprised it was Cabinda and not Reynolds though. Did not think we were keeping 6 LBs. I would have guessed another CB.

I am guessing we are in the market still for another top WR, a PK, and some OL depth. But it is a very solid roster. Amon-Ra and Goff are the most irreplaceable.
Agreed.

I would not be surprise if Badgley is our kicker by week 4. A couple missed XP and a short FG inside of 40 by Patterson is going to drive him out of town.

I think we will regret cutting Starling Thomas over Will Harris even if there was a cap hit. It was a gamble and a miss. Sometimes you overthink and take risks.

4-year $68.5 million for TJ Hockinson

4-year $9.5 million for Sam LaPorta

Brad Holmes for the win!

$15 million in cap space savings per year and getting a player who will do more for the team.

SIGNED TO THE PRACTICE SQUAD

I’d feel more comfortable with Badgley in from the start tbh. He was kind of reliable last year and has more experience than Patterson. We’ll see. Patterson will know he’s on a short leash which might add to the pressure. Annoying that we are now potentially good but don’t have an answer at K whilst spending decades being the reverse. K’s may be marginal at times but ultimately they can win or lose you games right at the death with one strike of the ball. Need someone legit back there

As a side note of the Hockinson signing, the 55th pick we got for Hock in the trade with Minn was flipped a couple times by Brad and basically turned into Hendon Hooker and Brodric Martin give or take a 6th or 7th Round pick.

I have seen some people online claim it turned into Branch, but those picks and trades were not related.

Looking like a master stroke by Holmes. I wasn’t happy with the return from the Vikings at the time as I thought it was light. Shows why I shouldn't be Lions GM.

Yeah, I think Holmes knew that Hock wasn't an elite player but was going to demand a massive payday. I am so glad we moved on. I was never ever a fan of the pick and always thought Hock was overrated.

Likely ain't happening, but man does Mike Evans to the Lions make sense. Go ahead and shove, Brad. All in.
I'm not a fan of most of these things people throw out there, but at least this one makes some sense.

Oddly WR may be our weakest position group with Jamo out. Raymond, Reynolds and an aging Jones Jr., are legitimate but yet subpar NFL talent. But adding Evans would move it to a strength, and when Jamo returns it would truly be fearsome.

On the flip side, if LaPorta and Gibbs really ball out, it will cover the weakness at WR. But Evans would definitely vastly upgrade our WR group, and make us less dependant on Amon-Ra to do all the heavy lifting.

If I'm the Lions, I'm not wasting assets on Mike Evans. If I'm doing an all-in move, I'm calling the Rams about Aaron Donald. Go solidify that DL.

A little known secret in the NFL...Detroit's DL is a very deep and strong unit. It does not seem that way because Hutchinson and Houston only really turned it up late in the season. Alim McNeil is a young talent turning into a beast. Levi Onwuzurick is a massive piece in the middle who is finally healthy after two years. We had Pascal, Harris, two Okwara's all injuried last year, now all healthy, and all very good pass rushers. And the Lions really like the huge rookie DT Brodric Martin they drafted this year. Oddly, WR is their shallowest and weakest positional group. This is why Holmes was shopping some of his DL talent to upgrade the WR.

DT Isaiah Buggs missed practice today with an undisclosed injury; safety Ifeatu Melifonwu, cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown were all practicing on Saturday.

Offense went to hell when St. Brown was injured last year. Holmes will keep at it and hopefully can swing a deal.
Defense may need some time to get together as a unit but could be very good.

Sounds like Brad Holmes is working his magic and has come to agreement om compensation for an Evans trade...basically next years 3rd plus either a 4th or 5th based on if he makes a pro-bowl, plus a future 7th. The last wrinkle is working out the terms which Evans agrees to for a long term deal.

This is based on what exactly?

An unsubstantiated tweet and YouTube videos based upon that tweet. Pretty much in stone. I am already celebrating.

I think Evans wants a longer contract than Detroit is willing to give. Evans is a very good WR, but not a great one. And do you really want to be paying $15 million for the next four years to a guy who just turned 30? I think Detroit would be happy with two years, but have no desires to be strapped down for 4-years. Holmes is very stingy with the long contracts and likes the young guys better. Holmes is focused on building with bargains which he can turn into long-term success.

Yeah I do not want Mike Evans here. Fine if it I was a 1 year rental but that’s not what he’s aiming for. I think Mike is at the edge of the cliff.

I really can not wait until Thursday night. This is like a child at Christmas with all their grandparents and great-grandparents in town. So many shiney new toys under the tree.
Seriously I am such a dork, already picking out my outfit for the day lol.

The great thing about this year is that most of the Lions games should actually be on TV. Local Fox carries the f-ing Bears, so I typically get to see maybe 4 games a year on TV. This year I can see at least 9 games and maybe 11 games depending on the late season flex games.

Week 1. KC....NBC National TNF
Week 4. GB....Prime TNF
Week 8. LV....ESPN MNF
Week 10....in-person, don't care.
Week 11....CHI...Fox regional
Week 12 ....GB ....Fox National ...Thanksgiving
Week 14 ....CHI....Local Fox
Week 15 ....Den...possible Flex
Week 16 ....Min....Fox Regional with Bears on West Coast
Week 17 ...DAL .... Fox...Saturday Night Game
Week 18 ....Min ... possible Flex.

Not paying $300 for Sunday ticket and $320 to YouTube subscriotion for a handful of games..

Pretty sure you can get NFL Sunday Ticket from YT TV without being a YT TV subscriber but I don’t know the cost.

Yes, you are correct. But it does cost $400 instead of $300 with the subscription.

If you only need it for 6 games, you are paying nearly $70 per game to watch on TV. That is crazy.

Makes sense, guess just depends how much you care about watching other random games for fantasy or whatnot.

Not the same but can wait for the replay on the NFL channel.

Need to save dollars for resigning the young core players. The Lions were counting on Jameson Williams big time hopefully he can be a contributor by seasons end.

Can see Lions drafting OL, CB and WR next draft.

Just take Travis Hunter and that’s a 2 for 1

Checked in with a source on the Buggs' tweet and early impression is there's no change with his status with the Lions. Until I hear something different, I'm thinking it's nothing.

7:07 PM · Sep 3, 2023

Buggs was the only Lion not in camp, he deleted his profile picture in a Lions uniform, deleted any reference to being a Lion, and put out a cryptic tweet about change.

I would be shocked if it was nothing. There is way too much smoke there. To put on my speculation hat, if it was about a trade with TB, it would be a done deal and the radio silence would be unneccessary. Now if the deal was with KC and was planned to be executed after Thursday.....

That would be an all-in move.
