2025 Detroit Lions: 4-1 Lions win battle of the big cats. (28 Viewers)

Outside of a few intangibles (bye week/Dak rust/Philly hangover), there is nothing to suggest the Lions can hang with a team that is more talented than New England.
I will suggest:
Bill Belichick>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>≥>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Mike McCarthy
True, but the Lions have a knee cap biter. Can Mikey do that?
I just think this game is going to be more about the mano-a-mano and less about the scheming genius, or lack thereof, of the HCs involved. For coaching it's really Ben Johnson v Dan Quinn which seems like a fair match.

There is a good chance Detroit gets rolled but I think they have a puncher's chance to pull this off.

I like Sewell but at this point I kinda wish he was taken earlier as he was projected, then Lions would have ended up with Parsons who I heard was the next one on their draft board. Sewell has been solid no doubt, but Parsons has been a game changer for the Dallas defense.
If the Lions had taken Carolina's offer of the 8th pick for Stafford, the Lions could have drafted both.

Rams winning the Superbowl did not help as it basically turned into a second rd pick.

Brockers inactive...I have to wonder if he's played his last game as a Lion. I loved the trade when they made it but he has done nothing since day 1.

A pass is intercepted but it looked like the ball hit the ground. Why no review? Why in the **** do the Lions get screwed like that? At least look at it.

This **** pisses me off.

The above totally changed the momentum in the game.

I can't remember the last time I was this mad.

I watched it back on my DVR, I doubt it would have been overturned, but it should have been looked at.

Was DC supposed to throw a challenge flag on that one?

You can't challenge a turnover...it's supposed to be automatically looked at.

I am suffering from Lions fatigue.

Last week when they were on a bye I had a great relaxing Sunday.

I starting laughing because my wife said dead seriously "Why can`t we ever win??"

In the NFL where you really need a short memory, I think Detroit gives Dallas everything they want and more. Bad teams coming off a bye are good plays. The bye came at the perfect time as they can get healthy.
Dak coming back and yet the line has dropped down to 6.5. I'm surprised Dallas isn't a bigger favorite at home. Coming off the Philly loss it will be interesting to see how they respond.
The way Dallas just terrorized Philly's line I'm not sure why it isn't more either. Goff needs a clean pocket, that's going to be hard to come by this Sunday.
:goodposting:

I agree completely with this:

Goff is not the answer

-- Goff continues to show he’s not the guy to see out this rebuild. The Lions have said what they have to about the guy, because they can’t just come out and say he’s taking up space until they can draft their guy. But how many times have the Lions won a game because of him? How many guys are playing better because of him? None, right? Some weeks, he’s good enough to hold things together. That’s OK for this stage of a rebuild. But if the Lions are serious about playing for something meaningful one of these years, they’re going to need a guy who can go toe-to-toe with the Josh Allens and Patrick Mahomes of the league. He’s never been that guy at his best, and lately he’s been very far from his best. Of course the injuries to D’Andre Swift, Amon-Ra St. Brown, DJ Chark and Jameson Williams hurt. They’d hurt anybody. But four second-half turnovers? Spoiling the best four quarters from this defense in ages? Come on.

Well if they spend their #1 pick on a QB I hope the fans are prepared for the wait. Throwing a rookie out there with that defense is not a combo that will present anything resembling a instant turnaround. And we all know how patient lions fans are.

Cant argue this but I don't think they have a choice. Plus I think Goff is due $30 million next year (I'm not 100% sure). I'm going rookie QB and Goff's salary for defense in free agency.

They wiould also need a one year FA place holder at QB. I don't want to subject a rookie to all that right away.

$30.6M and $31.6M for the next two years but 2022 is the last year of fully guaranteed salary

Dead Cap hit if they cut him before the league year begins is $10M in 2023 and $5M in 2024

how’d the boys look today? outside of 5 turnovers (think Goff had 4 in the 2nd half)? Okudah had a career high 12 tackles, not sure that’s a good thing but he’s pretty decent against the run. Hutch had 1.5 sacks.

anything positive other than our improving draft position?

The defense was much better. Hutchinson was standing up and had 1.5 sacks and some pressures. Paschal made some plays and was very impressive, especially given it was his first start. Kerby Joseph laid a massive hit on a Dallas receiver at the Lions 3 yard line, causing a turnover. Those were the first 3 picks in last year's draft. They still aren't very good because they lack talent but today was very encouraging. They played fast and we're very physical.

The offense moved the ball pretty well but was too inconsistent. Penalties at bad times hurt them and the turnovers obviously killed any chance they had. Goff simply turns the ball over too much. Sewell did a great job on Parsons when they were matched up.

We had a chance to win but too many mistakes were too much to overcome.

Had a feeling that he’d help unlock Hutch. The 3 sack vs WAS was when was Comiskey alongside.

Saw a podcast this week with a Cowboys beat and he was talking about how they literally put Micah anywhere - inside, safety, even corner - just to get him into a position where he has a pass rushing matchup he can win.

Obviously Aidan isn’t going to drop off into coverage, he has nowhere near the same kind of versatility, but they had to start making adjustments & move him around more.

Still enjoying my DGAF hiatus. From both the Lions & FF. Was a big dog in FF today & have to start Pickens tonight / Thornton tomorrow. Didn’t bother looking all day, just glanced & I’m at 95% win probability. OPP is done after the 4pm games.

Been such a relaxing couple of Sunday’s, I may never go back to being a fan lol.

Yeah they could have won today with some better luck and Goff having a bigger pair of hands.

St. Brown knocked out of game in first quarter hurt them.

No help from refs/review crew on interception that hit ground and refusal to call personal foul on excessive force slamming RB to ground.

Bad luck on Williams fumbling at 1 yard line (fumble was caused by Lion player kicking the ball out as part of his block).

Lions didn't challenge Brock Wright reception at goal line ( I do not think he was in but ball would have been much closer to goal line and Goff could have snuck it in. Williams fumbled on the next play.)

Defense played well but couldn't overcome all the turnovers and the game was closer than the score. Dallas didn't make mistakes.

Typical Lion loss: bad luck, key reffing calls going against them, too many turnovers and not enough playmakers.

Campbell didn't make any obvious coaching errors. Not challenging the Wright reception I do not think was on him.

Badgely was solid FGs and made one over 50 yds.

This team is unwatchable. The only hope I have is that Hutch will get DROY, which I put a ton of money on. The way he is going, he should get 12-16 sacks which hopefully is good enough.

Meinke just tweeted the reason Campbell threw his headset after the Jamaal fumble was he was waiting for his spotters to tell him whether or not to challenge the Wright reception from the play before

I was encouraged by the effort. Lions played competitively against one of the best teams and a top defense. Also, the game was on the road.

Our Defense was better with Pascal, Cominsky and Jacobs back.

Lions missing Swift, St. Brown, Chark and Reynolds playing on one leg. (Rodgers without good receivers looks ordinary as did Brady a few years back.) One of the things we wanted to find out was whether Goff could be the future QB and his limitations become quite apparent as they did last year when his weapons are not there.

Campbell leashed his aggression by appropriately running out the clock at the end of the first half, kicking FGs and not doing overly risky fake punts.

Williams' fumble in combination with Wright just missing a TD and lack of a challenge was excruciatingly painful. Turning point of game. Though the Lions did get lucky on the Cowboy fumble near the goal at the end of the first half.

Other than St. Brown I do not recall any other major injuries, but I may have missed something. This game was so much more enjoyable than the NE game. Both games on the road against good defenses without our best weapons.

Some writers and fans are beginning to turn on Campbell, I'm still in but what do I know.

Watching, but managing to not get emotionally involved anymore right now. The Vikings game was the breaking point. At least, if we get a rookie QB in, we have a very good Oline that should protect him pretty well. So many rookie QBs have come into this league and been destroyed by their clubs having ghastly Olines. It can make a big difference I think. Was nice to see the D play a lot better.

This is why we need to draft a QB. He can come into a situation with a great offensive line, potentially elite weapons with Jameson Williams, St. Brown, Hockenson, and Swift. Very few rookie QBs enter the league with great talent already there on offense. Yes, they need talent on defense, but Goff is not the answer and they simply have to draft a franchise QB. They should have cap space to address the defense, but they can't pass on a QB.

interception

(tbf the video seems inconclusive, but these photos/freeze frame make it look like it should have been incomplete)

no call on this?

aw, we're used to it. will get an apology from NY on Wednesday, nothing ever changes.
The ref commentating on the TV broadcast said they look to see if the player has his hands together and if he doesn't, it usually means the ball hit the ground. He said it should have been overturned.

There didn't seem to be a view that would be considered "incontrovertible visual evidence", but it was standard NFL garbage that it wasn't even looked at.

Encouraging that the defense is getting better. If they can actually get some of their offense weapons healthy, they could win some games in the second half of the season. Probably just enough to drop too far down in the draft to get a QB.

The last 2 weeks are why the Rams traded Goff and are why the Lions need to draft a QB next year. Too many turnovers at the worst times and he can't win games. Sometimes your QB has to win a game. Goff can't. Time to move on.

from TJ Lang's twitter

2nd Q, Lions are up 6-3, 2nd and 10 from their own 41, play action to Williams.

9, 10 yard drop. Jamaal pushes the DE wide. all Goff has to do is climb into the perfect pocket and take the shot. Kalif spun the CB and was wide open with

no safety help

s/b an easy TD, instead it's a drive killing 10 yard sack.

Okudah played as good as I have seen him play, very aggressive tackling against the run. Hutch had a better game. Seems he does better off the edge a little where he is not getting locked up with the tackle.

I had my fingers crossed with Goff but at this point don`t see him being the long term answer. Goff can be good at times but the fumbles yesterday were not even on hard hits, he gets stripped way too easy.

Bad things, Goff fumbles and INTs, Williams goal line fumble, Joseph dropped a sure INT.

Prescotts finals stats might have been OK but he did not look good at all. Dallas was ripe for the picking.

In the end, this is pretty much what the rebuild plan needed to be. The offense is well built and when the rookie QB comes in, he will be in a good situation with the o-line, Hock, Jamo, Amon Ra and Swift. I really hope it's Bryce Young. Then the Lions can spend the rest of their draft haul on defense. Long term this is probably better than going 8-9, drafting 23rd, missing out on the top QB prospects and possibly being in a position where Goff had done just enough to stick around.

So apparently St. Brown was fine, but due to the new rules he couldn't come back in.

I know they’re making a half-assed attempt at player safety optics, but it’s so silly. You get pulled off the field to be examined, you’re out. Somebody 400 feet away in the press box sees you stumble and orders you into the medical tent to be examined for head trauma. You ace all the concussion protocol questions, then explain you tripped on your own untied shoelace. Doesn’t matter, once they pull you to be checked out, done for the day.

ETA: that’s not exactly what happened with ARSB but that is seriously how it is rn.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe he was diagnosed with a concussion/brain injury.

nope

It was determined Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, who was pulled from yesterday's game early by officials, did not suffer a concussion. He remains in concussion protocol. He passed concussion tests on the field, but could not return because of the instability he showed on the field.

Big picture: it’s been determined he was not concussed. However, he still has to move through the concussion protocols. Expected to suit up VS MIA.

If the league really cared about the players health and safety they would drop the Thursday games and take better care of the players when their playing days are over
The NFLPA also has a say in this and needs to protect players. Money drives it all. The expansion of regular season games from 14 to 16 to 17 games, the increase in the number of playoff teams and games and the adding of Thursday and Monday night games are ratings and revenue driven. Owners and players are making more money but the players take the long- and short-term health risks.

Lions Reserve/list:
  • Jason Cabinda (ankle): return at any time
  • Jameson Williams (ACL): any time (next Campbell presser is Wednesday, nothing to report atm)
  • DJ Chark (ankle): Wk 11
  • Quintez Cephus (foot): Wk 10
  • Halapoulivaati Vaitai (back): any time
  • Tommy Kraemer (back): any time
  • Romeo Okwara (Achilles): any time
  • Bobby Price (knee): Wk 11

There is a good chance Lions will be 1-10, 2-9 at best heading into Thanksgiving Days game.

Have to believe Josh Allen will have a field day. Any way DC gets fired if the Bills win 45-14 or so on National TV?
