2025 NASCAR Thread - FBG fantasy league has a new leader (5 Viewers)

It feels like SHR news was coming - both principals getting more disengaged/distracted. Sad to see a successful team end but probably better in the long run vs a long lingering road to irrelevance.

3 of the 4 charters are apparently spoken for: Trackhouse, 23XI and Front Row.

The 4th charter is where the intrigue lies. Supposedly (outside of grandfathered in Gibbs and Hendrick) teams will be limited to 3 charters once they get the next agreement on those worked out. If that is case there are 8 options for selling that 4th charter (option 8 being someone not yet in Cup - and JrM has not been involved in charter talk reportedly)

Can't conceive Wood Brothers would do it. Unless it is a workaround for a defacto 4th team for Penske and is Wood Brother in name only.

Rick Ware Racing just got rid of two charters and finally seem to be operating like a team trying to win versus building up it's monetary resources so cannot see it being them.

JTG seemed to be a question mark but they resigned Stenhouse long term. Still couldn't see them buying another charter unless they are bringing on a new partner with the resources to do that.

Kaulig has been discussed as a team that might be merged/acquired so I don't see them being the team to get that charter unless it was part of something like that.

Random aside - Cole Custer's dad is one of the principals at SHR so maybe there is some involvement with him involving that with one of these teams.

RFK looks unlikely - Brad has publicly said he's $30m short on Twitter.

So it comes down to probably the two most likely candidates. Legacy might be inclined to get that 3rd charter when you figure with Jimmie Johnson's involvement it is probably more of a building team.

RCR is running a 3rd car in some races this year so like Legacy maybe if the price is right they add the move.

I wonder if that final charter gets packaged with the Stewart Haas shop - maybe to obscure a lower price than the other 3 charters.

Guessing that the money generated from the 3 charters is enough to make it worth it to announce - at least it gives everyone who works there a maximum amount of time to get situated for 2025.

All the other teams will be at the limit assuming the first 3 sale destinations are accurate.

Driverwise:

Briscoe seems like a safe bet to land somewhere (scuttlebutt is maybe Wood Bros)

Gragson is probably in great shape as well. As Truex's career is winding down it looks like Bass Pro has arrived at Gragson as a driver they will sport over the long term. Their sponsorships have generally been of the type to follow their drivers from team to team. Thinking that Charlotte may have been the first time a primary sponsor ever appeared on 3 different makes of car in the same race. But bringing that kind of support will put Gragson in a seat.

Berry doesn't have that kind of support though he clearly has a lot of talent and a prominent champion in Dale Jr. More likely than not he lands somewhere though maybe not the most appealing ride.

Preece is probably screwed. With young drivers always ready to move up his status was probably tenuous to begin with. With 2 less XFinity teams he might even have problems there unless other teams step in to bridge the gap at that level.

I think NASCAR made the right call on Larson’s waiver today.
Of course they did. I didn't see or hear anyone expect anything else.

There wouldn't be an issue if NASCAR went back to a season-long points system like every other series.
I’m new to NASCAR, only started following after my first race in 2019 at TMS, but watching how NASCAR handles in season issues versus the NFL has been very interesting. It feels like NASCAR makes a lot of policy decisions in the middle of the season.

Who honestly thought he wouldn't be in the playoffs??

I love NASCAR, but they "massage" their rules and regulations however and whenever they see fit.
That is a good way to put it. I haven’t been following NASCAR for long, so seeing how they handle issues has been interesting.

Like promoting Stenhouse fight for the clicks but then smashing with the big fine.

My kids are going to love Keslowski’s paint today, Despicable Me 4. They are still mad at M&M’s for ending their sponsorship.
It is interesting how much he flexes and the deals for sponsors and stuff especially compared to when I was a kid. Basically every driver has at least two core 10+ race full paint job sponsors. Used to be like 35/37 races were just one.

Have any of you been to any races this year?
Have not been since Jeff Gordon retired. My wife and I used to go to lots of races to camp out and tailgate. After he retired, she no longer was interested in NASCAR. Not sure why ?
Now I just watch some of the races on TV.

My Dad was big into NASCAR during the Gordon era, dropped off when Gordon retired, but has gotten back into since the grandkids wanted to “watch hot wheels on tv”.

Was it the best race no but there was nothing like walking along the fence at Daytona when you can hear a feel the rumble winding up as they exit Turn 4 and the entire pack blows by you down the front

My daughter's old roommate from college recently had a baby down in Virginia. She would like to go visit and I see the Richmond race is August 11th.
Plenty of good tickets available it seems too.

Anyone have advice or suggestions should we decide to go? Places to stay? Park? Seats to grab or avoid?

Appreciate it.

All I can tell you is that track is in the middle of nowhere

Easy to get in and out on race day as they have all traffic one way. Parking is not bad and camping is great. Shuttles will take you to the track. Night races are fun but go for the all day carnival atmosphere. Lots of free stuff given away and activities to take in.
Best seats for wrecks is turn 3 or 4. Not many bad seats because it is a short track. I used to set on back stretch going into turn 3.

I think I stayed at the Richmond Marriott when I went. Had a driver do drop off and pick up after, but didn't feel like it took long to get in or out.

So the opposite of Michigan which becomes an all day event due to traffic flow.

Appreciate your advice.

I think it's built up a little more than the last time I was there. I went on a non race weekend to just see the track and couldn't believe the 2 lane road going in lol

The races aren’t that great at MiS either. Whomever gets out front right from the start usually gets the win.

This race is terrible. Needed an earlier start with the weather. Race just ugly to watch with cars sliding all over the place.

(I know asking why I’m still watching then, but my son wants to watch, so I’m stuck too.)

I'm kind of enjoying it. It's an interesting change compared to them just going around in an oval.

I like road races and agree with that. Just not sure why they did not move the race start earlier given the rain forecast, as just been ugly with cars locking up and they won’t get full race in.

TV usually makes the call on start time or at least gets a vote.

It would be nice if NASCAR gets a good weather day one of these years.

Bubba had his race ruined but getting turned on a street circuit in the wet should elicit a different reaction than getting dumped at Martinsville
