Allen’s Summary of this mock draft:
1.02 – Miami needs a RB, but I still think they will take a QB (Alex Smith).
1.05 - I don’t think Tampa Bay will be taking a WR or a RB. I think it’s either QB or defense (PacMan or DJ). Kiffin has connection to PacMan through coaches and that’s who he wants and Gruden wants a QB.
1.16 – Everyone and their brother has Thomas Davis locked in at this spot. But I don’t think so. The Saints are the only team who worked out Davis as an OLB. If the Saints are really looking for an outside linebacker then I think they will go with Darryl Blackstock.
1.17 – Cincinnati very well could take Travis Johnson here, but I believe they have more pressing needs at DE and there are plenty of DE’s to choose from here. Pollack would have been a much better fit, in my opinion. Marcus Spears is still on the Board here as well and while he may be better suited for the 3-4, you should take him over TJ anyway. That was a very poor BPA (Best Player Available) pick. This was probably the worst pick in the entire mock draft.
1.28 – San Diego will not pick Matt Roth. It’s just not a realistic choice. Yeah, players do change positions in the NFL, every now and then. But Matt Roth is a DE and he will be a good DE. I’m not so sure he could play OLB in the NFL. Matt Roth should have fallen to Indianapolis in this situation. I believe that this pick was screwed by the first pick San Diego had. Yeah, San Diego could take Troy Williamson at #12. But San Diego also has to watch the flow here, because they can end up with Williamson and be stuck in a bad situation at 28, or they can take Spears and be looking at a great situation with WR’s at 28. In my opinion, the Chargers will take Spears at 12 and the best WR at 28.
1.29 – Because of no trades this was the only real solution out of the Roth mistake one pick earlier. Bill Polian is a character guy and Ruud fits that profile.
1.32 – I have to get onto myself here. I was so caught up in everything at 28 & 29 that I dismissed Thurman’s character problems while choosing for NE after I passed on him for character problems with Indy. Bill Belichick would probably not use a 1st round draft choice on Odell. He would probably gamble his second, but not a first. That was poor judgment on my part.
2.34 – While I like what Hawthorne would bring to the Browns, this was a poorly calculated decision. The GM’s plan appeared to be for Jason Campbell, all the way. And if Cleveland was looking at Campbell as their guy then that would be great. However, Cleveland wants Frye. They may settle for Campbell, but they won’t let Fry get past them here. This pick should have, without question been for Charlie Frye.
2.48 – This was a terrible pick. Not because of Patterson, but because the GM had already taken Travis Johnson in the first round. I’m pretty sure that this GM was only around to try and screw this mock up. I later threw him out of the mock and finished his picks for him. Some people just have to screw everything up for others. We spent 4 ½ hours on this mock and this was a huge tactical error that should have never happened.
Overall, we put this mock together (Star to finish) in about 8 ½ hours and we didn’t even have our 3rd GM until 2 hours in so I would say it was very good for what we put into it. I would like to have a few very bad moves back, but overall it’s realistic.

1.02 – Miami needs a RB, but I still think they will take a QB (Alex Smith).
1.05 - I don’t think Tampa Bay will be taking a WR or a RB. I think it’s either QB or defense (PacMan or DJ). Kiffin has connection to PacMan through coaches and that’s who he wants and Gruden wants a QB.
1.16 – Everyone and their brother has Thomas Davis locked in at this spot. But I don’t think so. The Saints are the only team who worked out Davis as an OLB. If the Saints are really looking for an outside linebacker then I think they will go with Darryl Blackstock.
1.17 – Cincinnati very well could take Travis Johnson here, but I believe they have more pressing needs at DE and there are plenty of DE’s to choose from here. Pollack would have been a much better fit, in my opinion. Marcus Spears is still on the Board here as well and while he may be better suited for the 3-4, you should take him over TJ anyway. That was a very poor BPA (Best Player Available) pick. This was probably the worst pick in the entire mock draft.
1.28 – San Diego will not pick Matt Roth. It’s just not a realistic choice. Yeah, players do change positions in the NFL, every now and then. But Matt Roth is a DE and he will be a good DE. I’m not so sure he could play OLB in the NFL. Matt Roth should have fallen to Indianapolis in this situation. I believe that this pick was screwed by the first pick San Diego had. Yeah, San Diego could take Troy Williamson at #12. But San Diego also has to watch the flow here, because they can end up with Williamson and be stuck in a bad situation at 28, or they can take Spears and be looking at a great situation with WR’s at 28. In my opinion, the Chargers will take Spears at 12 and the best WR at 28.
1.29 – Because of no trades this was the only real solution out of the Roth mistake one pick earlier. Bill Polian is a character guy and Ruud fits that profile.
1.32 – I have to get onto myself here. I was so caught up in everything at 28 & 29 that I dismissed Thurman’s character problems while choosing for NE after I passed on him for character problems with Indy. Bill Belichick would probably not use a 1st round draft choice on Odell. He would probably gamble his second, but not a first. That was poor judgment on my part.
2.34 – While I like what Hawthorne would bring to the Browns, this was a poorly calculated decision. The GM’s plan appeared to be for Jason Campbell, all the way. And if Cleveland was looking at Campbell as their guy then that would be great. However, Cleveland wants Frye. They may settle for Campbell, but they won’t let Fry get past them here. This pick should have, without question been for Charlie Frye.
2.48 – This was a terrible pick. Not because of Patterson, but because the GM had already taken Travis Johnson in the first round. I’m pretty sure that this GM was only around to try and screw this mock up. I later threw him out of the mock and finished his picks for him. Some people just have to screw everything up for others. We spent 4 ½ hours on this mock and this was a huge tactical error that should have never happened.
Overall, we put this mock together (Star to finish) in about 8 ½ hours and we didn’t even have our 3rd GM until 2 hours in so I would say it was very good for what we put into it. I would like to have a few very bad moves back, but overall it’s realistic.

Here is the logic on my Texans picks.The Texans defense was well below average on balance last season for a number of reasons I won’t go into here. Ware is a prototype weak side rush guy. The Texans have been alive 4 years now and are still searching for this guy. I don’t think Marlin Jackson will be there at 47 but he was here so I took him. I see Jackson as another younger Marcus Coleman type CB and would cover the tall WR/TE targets in the red zone where Dunta Robinson and Aaron Glenn would be a bit undersized. Jackson has good size and physical enough to blitz off the nickel/dime and may even slide to FS when Coleman's contract runs out. Shazor is within 10 pounds of Jamie Sharper and will get thicker as he ages and continues in a good weight program. I project him inside to replace Foreman as the buc linebacker. Greenwood takes the Mac linebacker. Center Steve McKinney has cap hits over 4mil the next two years and is not anywhere close to that level player. Drafting Spencer makes McKinney a cap casualty next year since Spencer eventually takes the job sometime during the 2005 season. Everyone has us taking a LT but I think the coaches still like Seth Wand. I think they had them in there one year early.
