looked to me like he took a wallop of a shot to the head, some time in the 3rd, if I'm not mistaken..anyways, it happened at some point in the game, and he never was the same after it...This is a question I've never seen definitively and directly answered by anyone. Not by the Eagles, not by Andy Reid, not by Donovan McNabb, not by Philly homers, not by Philly haters. I even did a search and I can't find anything of real substance. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places.
Why Did Donovan McNabb Show No Urgency In SuperBowl XXXIX Final Minutes?
Was he hurt?
Was there some of clock management/play calling issue with Reid and the offense?
I'm not looking to incite Iggle homers, but I honestly have no idea what happened at the end of that Super Bowl and it's baffling to me why no one seems to have a clear cut answer to this.
This is what Wiki says,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donovan_McNabb#Super_Bowl_XXXIX
Dehydration?Concussion?Super Bowl XXXIX
McNabb lead his team against a newly-forming football dynasty, the New England Patriots, in Super Bowl XXXIX. McNabb struggled at points, throwing three crucial interceptions. Two of these were thrown in New England territory, and one of those two was a rare mistake for McNabb in the red zone. The final interception was a last-gasp hail mary at the end of the game. He was also sacked four times. Controversy surrounds the end of the game, as McNabb was reportedly dehydrated and vomited in the huddle, as stated by former 1st Round pick and Philadelphia Eagle teammate Freddie Mitchell, leading to the inability to call a play and poor clock management by the Philadelphia Eagles on their final drive. Some reports claim that McNabb had the wind knocked out of him by an earlier hit while others assert that he was unduly fatigued (interestingly, McNabb also suffered from a bout of nausea at the conclusion of a 2002 regular-season game played at Alltel Stadium, where Super Bowl XXXIX was contested). Some have speculated that McNabb had end of game butterflies and is not capable of winning the big game. Both Coach Andy Reid and McNabb have denied any physical problems which led to the puzzlingly slow pace of play, but they did not address mental problems. McNabb finished the game with 30 completions for 357 yards, the third highest total for both categories in Super Bowl history, and 3 touchdowns. The Eagles lost 24-21.
Nausea?
Mental yips?
If someone can share some insight into this, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Yep, same here. My buddy and I were laughing our asses off. Everyone wants to say he got a hit to the head, but he wouldn't/couldn't claim that because it didn't happen and 10 TV cameras knew it. It doesn't happen in most games, but be assured that it does happen and it did happen that game.Funny you should say that. Every time something completely inexplicable happens in a sporting event, my buddy and I look at each other and say "the book." Nuff said. It's a little thing called "the fix". Nobody likes to talk about it so you won't hear an answer. This is a question I've never seen definitively and directly answered by anyone. His postseason stats are some of the best in history. His stats in the SB are the third best in history. Just more proof that dittoheads will believe anything as long as Rush says so.McNabb was avg at best.Rush was right.
Really? Are they still your friends?Darth Cheney said:Saying McNabb sucks isn't racism. Saying that as a black man, McNabb doesn't have the mental tools to be a QB is. ( Ironically a couple of my friends feel this way....so maybe my small sample, anectodal experiences are accurate for Philly at large). Philly fans as my experiences go, are of both the "what have you done for me lately" and "the grass is always greener" mentality and they've just so happened to have had a pretty long lineage of black QB's (Cunningham-Peete-McNabb) who have had white backups.
Yeah, TO and Garcia on the same team together really sounds like a good idea.IIRC, Philly ran T.O. out of town for two reasons: Taking Andy Reid's parking spot and telling the truth about McNabb sucking air in the 4th Q of the super bowl. Hindsight being 20-15, who'd they rather have now, T.O., Garcia and ANYBODY besides Reid (well, maybe not Art Shell!), or the current team? Petty slights turning into 'cancer' labels that the media takes off and runs with don't always tell the story.
0-1 is 3rd on the list?As far as Rush's comments, McNabb was deified by the media for leading a 4th quarter comeback on a broken ankle. When white QBs do this, it is merely a footnote.EDIT---Whether or not this is due to skin color is debatable. What is not debatable is that if anything, McNabb gets better treatment from the media than most others. His postseason stats are some of the best in history. It's because of the color of his skin.

Rush was right.![]()
Really? I didnt know that Mcnabb played both ways. and was the only starter on offense and defense.... Wow!McNabb just isn't a winner. He is always making excuses and using race to try to deflect attention from his horrendous showings in big games. He lacked heart in that game and basically gave up in the end.
Seriously?Do people still seriously think that a QB can control an entire team's destiny, or are they just so stupid that they can only compute things in binary yes/no responses?1huskerfan said:0-1 is 3rd on the list?Eric said:His postseason stats are some of the best in history. IIRC Rush said what he said well prior to the playoffs. I always felt Rush lit a fire under McNabb. I wont do this but it would be interesting to compare McNabb's stats pre Rush vs post Rush. I think the post Rush stats will be much better.Eric said:His postseason stats are some of the best in history. His stats in the SB are the third best in history. OK I never listened to Rush on the radio. So I guess I am not a ditto head. Is he still on the radio? I only know him from ESPN stint.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dittohead#DittoheadsIn other words, they are people unable to think independently. What is a ditto head?Eric said:His postseason stats are some of the best in history. Yeah but that isn't his nickname at all...that was just made up by you.His nickname isn't Donovan McChoke for nothing...
Stats can be misleading. His two interceptions in Patriots' territory were crippling that day. He did not have a great game. Neither did the coaches, defense and the interior of the offensive line. There is enough blame to go around but to suggest that McNabb had a great game based on the final stat line just isn't accurate.Eric said:His postseason stats are some of the best in history.
