3rd Round Reversal Draft Strategy (1 Viewer)

Look in the archives, Pasquino has several articles on 3RR

It doesn't alter your picks or "strategy" in drafting....it would however make draft spots at the end of the first round more desirable than they would normally be...........so if you want to start your team with a STUD RB you want to pick at the front of round one.........IF you would rather have a STUD WR and earlier picks in round two and three, then you would want to be at the very end of the round....the positions in the middle are less desirable (certainly for the first three/four rounds)

I got the 10 spot in 3RR Redraft right now, Love 3RRhttp://football14.myfantasyleague.com/2011/options?L=36637&O=17

I think the biggest difference is I want pick 4 in a standard serpentine, but I'd prefer about 10th in a 3RR (12 teams).

From a 2010 post

3RR

ANY POSITION.

Thats why you use 3RR.

Truth is, it where you perceive the giant drop-offs to be. Then you add in how many mistakes you expect to see by other drafters.

12 team. PPR.

Accordingly you would still love to have a top 4-5 pick for those elite RBs.

There is a total about 16-17 RBs that certainly outpace the rest.

There are about 19 WRs that I would ideally like to get 2 of. And about 5 more before I see huge cliff.

About 6 top tier TEs. About 6 top tier QBs.

58 Thusly, if you draft in a league of pros/sharks who wont make mistakes.... pick 11/12 hit the 59/60 player mark. No thanks.

Id take picks 9 or 10 or picks in the top 4-5.

You would have 5 players after 5 rounds from the top 58 standouts.

If you think some players might slide -- pick 9/10 have just as a good shot as picks 11/12, plus they have the insurance of the for-sure-5, with a possible 6th.

The top 4-5 picks get the for-sure-5 which inlcludes the one of the elite RBs.

Good luck. And long live the 3RR/Banzai Method!
I haven't done he leg work for the giant drop yet, but I will soon.

I looked in the archives but was trying to narrow the analysis down to this season. I think the Vick question and RB/WR situations make thos year a little different.

I think there's more to 3RR than just being a 3RR ... what are the roster requirements and scoring and competitiveness of the league?

This just came up for me ... my $250 entry fee league starts 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1PK, 1DT, and 1 UTIL. It is a full PPR with only 4 for a passing TD. We can trade picks so if you think a run is coming if you can find a match this draft has no shot at playing out like you mock it.

Based on previous years I am expecting Vick/Rodgers to go in Round 2 and then the next tier that won't rush for many TD's in Round 3-5. If you miss that tier you can probably get in the next tier of guys you don't love as late as the 8th. I am expecting a run on TE's around the end of the 3rd through the 4th ... perhaps the top 5 ... and then the rest will sit till the 5th/6th when folks get nervous and reach. Same with QB's.

I've been toying with TE in the 3rd and 5th given the UTIL slot their point potential matches the WR's I expect available. The Dominator actually gives me a favorable review but that's scary to risk.

Going back to Round 1 which is really where your decision falls ... I expect 4 RB's to go for sure ... with AJ and whichever few RB's end up in that early mid 1st tier in a few weeks when we draft. Will CJ report? Will Foster get healthy? Will McCoy shoot up the boards?

There is always a major run on the 2nd tier of WR's in the 2nd round and several go in the first and decent RB's drop to the 3rd-5th with more quality available as late as the 7-10th. I've always found myself chasing WR's while drafting early and any week my stud RB doesn't perform I lose. I always go into the draft planning to take WR's and take value RB's but it never materializes given the quality of my competition and my early draft slots so far.

Now here's the fun part ... we roll for CHOICE of draft spot. I won the first spot and after running some analysis decided to pick 6th. If someone takes AJ then I get a RB later. If noone takes AJ then I choose him or McCoy. I'm right on the fringe to land VJax or similar quality in the 2nd if not decide on Vick/Rodgers if not snag a MJD/Gore/etc if it falls that way.

I thought VERY strongly about the 8 or 10 slot and going for Megatron/Nicks/White which aren't AJ and I didn't see much of a drop in the 2nd ... so the 6 spot is currently my maximum risk tolerance for Round 1.

Interesting draft flow ... getting Mendy and Calvin is amazing but I'm shocked Megatron dropped that far. Would you have felt as good about the spot if your choice was SJax or Fitz in the 2nd? AJ falling to 9th was a steal for that owner.

I like getting 10-12 spot in 3RR PPR and getting to select 3 players out of my top 25-27th ranked players and it seems that is desirable most years. In the 3RR type drafts I've seen owners in the number 1 position trying to trade it they seem to garner no interest. I recently found out I'm in the 11 spot and I'm excited about it.

Everyone got to pick their slots ... 6 then 5 ... then 1-4 (don't remember the order) then 12-9 ... then 8 then 7 last. I'm surprised slots 1/2 went in particular before slots 9/12 in particular.
