Cal Bear won the grand prize last year, predicting **** Jauron would be the first coach fired.

Jauron got popped on November 17, 2009, nine games into the 2009 season.

Which coach will it be this season?

I'll go with Mangini, mainly because I don't like the man. I also don't think Holmgren is crazy about him.

I'll vote when the schedule comes out...

I want to see if anyone has a shot at starting off with a rough schedule.

I took Gary Kubiak. The Texans have too much talent not to make the playoffs. If they start slow he could be gone quick.

This could be Del Rio's last year, but I feel fairly confident Weaver won't make a move in-season.

Most of the coaches even if they got fired won't be let go till the 2010 season ends. JDR and Fox should hav ebeen shown the door last year but the owners don't want to pay them the remainder of the contracts so they are letting these guys work it off.

Cable though could be shown the door early.

I think Mangini could be fired after this season but he won't be let go a minute before the final few ticks expire on the Cleveland Brown's 2010 season.

Not the method of McNair. If he did not fire Kubiak after last year, Gary is good for 2010 (quite honestly 2011 if he does not go Capers).

I say Lovie Smith. Chicago is destined for failure. What an awful team.
That might be overstating things a bit. I'd love to see Lovie sent packing but feel very strongly that, barring a major injury, the Bears will be very competitive in a tough division. I think they'll make the playoffs and do just well enough to keep the current regime in place, much to the dismay of Bear fans everywhere.

Make the playoffs? Yikes. You do realize they haven't improved their o-line, and don't have a first or second round pick, and play in the same division as Green Bay and Minnesota? Yikes. Not thread stealing though - I think Lovie is the easiest choice for a team that could struggle out of the box and fire their coach midseason.

I will go with a "darkhorse" and say Norv Turner- too many early season playoff exits and will get off to a bad start- No LT, No Jamal Williams- maybe a VJax suspension?

The Bucs are paying Raheem Morris a laughable salary to be both the head coach AND defensive coordinator. They could start 0-15 and he would be retained through the year.

As a Bears fan I've gotten used to planning on the most frustrating result. Not necessarily the worst result but the most frustrating. They're good enough to pull out wild card slot because that would frustrate the hell out of me. Everyone wants to just assume that the division will play out as last year but we don't even know if Favre is coming back and the NFL landscape can change in a million ways overnight. The Bears making the playoffs may not be likely in the real world but it is far from impossible. In my own Lovie-tormented mind it's basically a mortal lock.

Haven't voted yet, but how is Spags not on this list?
I don't believe he deserves to be, for a few reasons.First, you have to differentiate between a coach who is doing a poor job, and a coach who has nothing to work with. Spags is in the latter category. He is a good football coach. Also, the ownership group is not in the most stable situation in the world right now. They aren't going to eat his contract so early in the process.

 at Marvin even being on this list at this point.

Anyhow, gotta figure what organizations would bother to fire a coach in the middle of the season.

I think it's Cable hands down, in part for that reason.

I think the Browns will stick with Mangenius all year to give him a full shot. Otherwise they would've just fired him in the offseason.

Kubiak just signed an extension this offseason as well.

Yes, how dare I put a coach with a 56-55-1 career record on this list! He's at the top of his profession.Lombardi ... Walsh ... Noll... Lewis :suds:
Uh, the title of the thread is "Who will be the FIRST head coach fired?"The guy who took his team to the playoffs last year for the 2nd time in 5 seasons for a franchise again wouldn't suggest he's on the firing line.

This thread isn't about who the top 5 coaches in the league are. It's about who is likely to get swiftly canned. That ain't Marvin.

Coaches usually don't get fired Mid-season...

1st you have to look at the ownership and see which ones are crazy enough to do.

2nd it has to be a team with high expectations that face on their face.

Mid-Season Firings

I voted Cable; since Al is crazy enough to do it and Al has crazy expectations with his team.

a Close 2nd is Wade Phillips; Jerry is as crazy as Al... but Jerry expects the Super Bowl and knows that Wade isn't going to do it. JJ wanted to Fire Phillips so bad last yr but the team saved his ### by beating NO and getting in the playoffs. A rough start and Wade is so gone Mid-Season.

If the Texans fall 1 - 4 without some crazy injuries then Gary is toast.

Cinny bounced back last yr, don't see Marvin getting fired mid-season

Its tough to fire Mangini, they played so well the last 5 games and hes made a ton of moves for draft picks. If you were going to fire him it would have to have been this off-season before the draft. How you going to let a guy collect so many draft picks, make the picks and then let him go.. Holm is smarter than that; by letting Mangini stay and work this draft Holm is going to let him work for atleast 2 more years. Unless Mangini makes some terrible picks.

Del Rio is another guy that his team seems rally around but just misses... an owner can only accept this for so long. He is so gone next off-season.

John Fox: he has let this team get so old that its not even funny. No QB, Smith is getting old to be the WR1 for much longer and there no replacement in site. All they have is the RBs. Bad management on his part.

Lovie Smith, don't see it... he'll stay for atleast 2 more yrs.

Morris, who the hell wants to take over that mess... and what are they expecting?

Coughlin, don't be surprised if his plug is pulled next year
