6 Round Mock Draft (1 Viewer)

pjconley

Footballguy
After weeks of research and hours to put this damn thing together (during my overnight shift of course, I feel better knowing I got paid while I speant 7 hours on it). It's finally complete. I gave up after the 7th round. Sorry guys. I know you were all dying to know who Mr.Irrelevant was.

PJ's 6 round Mock draft

1. Miami Dolphins- Jake Long OT, Michigan

Head Coach Bill Parcells... I mean Puppet Master Bill Parcells and the Fins have begun contract negotiations with the big guy out of Michigan. There is a huge chance this is nothing more then a bluff, but since fixing the offensive line seems to be one of their top priorities, I wouldn’t be surprised the pick goes through. It’s hard to evaluate the rest of the offense without a solid offensive line.

2. St Louis Rams- Chris Long DE, Virginia

Leonard Little’s best days may be behind him, plus their lacking a true speed pass rusher to get to the quarterback.

3. Atlanta Falcons- Glenn Dorsey DT, LSU

With Rod Coleman gone, their interior defensive line blows.

4. Oakland Raiders- Vernon Gholston DE, Ohio State

By drafting the physical specimen, the Raiders will get one of the best pass rushers in the draft to line up opposite Burgess.

5. KC Chiefs- Ryan Clady OT, Boise State

Clady should be able to step in and fill that glairing need at Left Tackle. They’re very tempted to shore up the defensive line by picking Ellis, but people are getting impatient with my old pal Herm. The safer choice of the two would be Left Tackle.

6. NY Jets- Darren McFadden RB, Arkansas

If you’ve seen my first mock and the arguments after, I was adamant on Dallas trading up to get him. Now that Gholston’s off the board, there is no need for me to fight it anymore. McFadden will rock the Green and White next season. Hopefully after the free agent acquisitions and drafting the dynamic running back, people will actually fear us rather then laugh at us. He’ll be a perfect compliment to Thomas Jones. As much as I like Leon, this could be a good thing. He’ll have fresh legs in the return game. Add a healed Justin Miller to that mix and we’ll have an exciting Kick Return team.

7. New England Patriots- Leodis McKelvin CB, Troy

After losing Asante Samuel, Randall Gay, and Eugene Wilson, the secondary could use both talent and depth.

8 Baltimore Ravens- Matt Ryan QB, Boston College

With Brian Billick gone, the Kyle Boller experiment should be over. I’m kind of rooting for Troy Smith to succeed, but the chances of that happening are slim. Matt Ryan has definite franchise potential, something the Ravens haven’t had since it’s inauguration. CB is another major need, but this class is deep enough to wait on one later in the draft.

9. Cincinnati Bengals- Sedrik Ellis DT, USC

Ellis should immediately step into the starting role next to Peko on the interior D-line.

10. New Orleans Saints- Keith Rivers OLB, USC

Here’s the deal. The Saints need a CB, but with Rivers still on the board, they couldn’t pass up. Scott Fujita is ok, Shane Shanle is eh. Rivers would be a huge upgrade at this position.

11. Buffalo Bills- Dominique Rogers-Cromartie CB, Tennessee State

The Bills ranked 28th in pass defense so they need to revamp their secondary. The 6’1 small school stand out could be a dangerous threat to any team looking to pass his way.

12. Denver Broncos- Chris Williams OT, Vanderbuilt

After former starter Matt Lepsis announced his retirement, former MTV “True Life: I Want the Perfect Body” and Notre Dame star Ryan Harris is at the top of the depth chart. Many are questioning whether he’s starter material. They may consider adding depth and competition to the most crucial spot on the offensive line. I thought about trading up to the number 8 spot to acquire the big Defensive Tackle Ellis, but since they’re lacking a 3rd round pick and had other needs, I figured giving up picks wouldn’t be too wise.

13. Carolina Panthers- Jeff Otah OT, Pittsburgh

After making a strong presence at his pro day, the Panthers decide to move Travelle Wharton to guard and Jordan Gross to LT and plug Otah into the RT spot to solidify the offensive line.

14. Chicago Bears- Brandon Albert OG/OT, Virginia

The big versatile lineman would be a breath of fresh air being plugged into such a depleted offensive line.

15. Detroit Lions- Rashard Mendenhall RB, Illinois

A Mendenhall/ Tatum Bell combo could scare many in that NFC North division.

16. Arizona Cardinals- Mike Jenkins CB, South Florida

Eric Green and Rod Hood aren’t that great and the Cardinals need a ball hawk in that secondary immediately. Opposing quarterbacks will be shaking in their cleats passing against Jenkins and Rolle.

17. Minnesota Vikings- Derrick Harvey DE, Florida

With Kenechi Udeze’s unfortunate disease and Erasmus James unfortunately not playing up to his hype, the Vikings are in need of a pass rusher. Lucky for them, Harvey managed to slip right into their laps.

18. Houston Texans- Jonathan Stewart RB, Oregon

Yes they do have Ahman Green, Chris Brown and Darius Walker, but Stewarts skills would be too hard for them to pass up.

19. Philadelphia Eagles- Malcom Kelly WR, Oklahoma

McNabb has been crying for a big playmaking possession WR. Kelly is just that. The guy dropped one pass over the last 2 years.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- DeSean Jackson WR/KR, Cal

The Bucs are looking for a speedy playmaker and Jackson fits that mold perfectly. He was actually down in Tampa Bay recently meeting with the front office, Gruden, the WRs coach, the special teams coach, the offensive coordinator, and the water boy.

21. Washington Redskins- Philip Merling DE, Clemson

The skins are in need of a pass rusher opposite Andre Carter.

22. Dallas Cowboys (from Cleveland)- Devin Thomas WR, Michigan State

Thomas will add youth to the aging WR corps.

23. Pittsburgh Steelers- Gosder Cherilus OT, Boston College

If they want to get back to the playoffs, they need to fix that line pronto. Even my Jets, whose pass rush was mediocre at best, looked amazing against them.

24. Tennessee Titans- Limas Sweed WR, Texas

Vince Young and Limas Sweed played well together down in Texas. Drafting a familiar face could help Vince Young in the passing game. Besides the connection, Sweed, who draws comparisons to a taller Andre Johnson, should step in and start week 1.

25. Seattle Seahawks- Kentwan Balmer DT, North Carolina

The Seahawks lack depth after Chuck Darby’s departure.

26. Jacksonville Jaguars- Lawrence Jackson DE, USC

After McCray’s departure, the Defensive End position needs immediate attention.

27. *TRADE (mock simulation)* Atlanta Falcons (from San Diego for picks 34 (2nd round), 103 (4thround), and 172 (6th round)- Brian Brohm, QB

Charger’s GM AJ Smith has been vocal about looking to trade out for more picks. Although the Falcons are giving up 2 extra picks, they still have 9 total selections (6 of those in the first 3 rounds). Some argue Brohm is the best QB in this draft, and after the whole Vick fiasco, ATL was stuck playing QB roulette between Harrington, Leftwhich, and Chris Redman. They need a true franchise QB, and Brohm could win that job easily.

28. Dallas Cowboys-Aquib Talib CB, Kansas

Even if Pac Man Jones gets traded and permission to play, they still need help at corner.

29. SF 49ers (from IND)- Quinton Groves OLB, Auburn

Groves has that expolosive quickness and outstanding suddenness to wreck havoc in opposing offense’s backfield. Drawing comparisons to Demarcus Ware, he should be a huge improvement over the underperforming Tully Banta-Cain.

30. Green Bay Packers- Antoine Cason CB, Arizona

This is more for depth since Al Harris and Charles Woodson showed signs of wear last season.

31. New York Giants- Kenny Phillips FS, Miami

The Giants had a tough choice in taking the big Penn State LB Dan Connor or the FS Kenny Phillips. They ended up taking Phillips who should be the successor to Gabril Wilson at free safety.

Love this trade. Hate the pick of Jones. 1 issue though. I think Atl would have to give up its 3rd rd pick #68 instead of the 4th for the Chargers to do it. In this scenario, chargers would be able to get Forte in the 3rd ahead of the bears picking him. SD has mentioned him and Choice as people they like later as a backup and future rb. at 34 i think they will look at these guys:Justin King, CB Penn StateAnthony Collins OT, Kansas Brandon Flowers CB, Virginia TechReggie Smith CB, OklahomaETA:

Seems these picks address their needs pretty well. I dont know enough about any of them other then Jones so I cant comment. Great Job though!

Great effort on this! I hate to make any comments after all of the work you did on this. However, taking a little look from the Bengals perspective. My first question for anyone is, why Adibi at LB in the 2nd round when Avril, Lofton, Henderson, Gooden and Howard would be there? What makes him better than those 5? The other stuff would be nitpicking. I would rather go DE at pick 77 (Jason Jones) and wait until 112 for a CB (Orlando Scandrick). I like Dexter Jackson for his return ability, but the Bengals are going to need a pure WR at some point, like Bennett or Simpson in round 3 or a couple extras in rounds 6 and 7.

I like the look of this. I would like to see a different WR at #1, but I like the positional selection. I see Morgan in Round 2 as well. I'd prefer Ellis to Johnston (hence his inclusion in this list) and if that happens I'm quite happy with it. Vince Hall is a 6th round steal. Not sure if we need Mike Hart, but he could fit the WCO well.I'm still looking for the WR from App State (Dexter Jackson) to head to Philly.

If the Titans draft that well, I will be :goodposting:

Top-tier WR, a steal in Tommy Blake, a quality DT, a good upside CB, a DE for the depth they lost, and Slaton as a change of pace to Lendale. That would be a VERY Good draft indeed.

ETA: You have Johnny Dingle going to Cincy and Tennessee.

I don't quite see the Saints needing Tashard Choice, but if that's the BPA I can see it.

They like Pierre Thomas behind Deuce (for now) with Reggie Bush and Aaron Stecker.

Absolutely love the draft from a Bills fan perspective.

Very nice thought. ;) That's gotta take alot of work to put out something like that.

Just briefly - cause I can't give it a thorough look over until tonight - interesting Jets draft -

6. NY Jets- Darren McFadden RB, Arkansas

5. (36) NY Jets- Dan Connor ILB, Penn State

3 (102)New York Jets – Patrick Lee CB, Auburn

14 (113)New York Jets (From Saints) –Thomas DeCoud FS, Cal

5 (171) New York Jets- Marcus Monk WR, Arkansas

They get a lot of what they need (LB, CB, WR) although they could use more DLine help, overall it looks like a good haul. Monk could be decent or not - that pick I might have gone elsewhere, but honestly, in round 6, you're just hoping.

Good stuff. More later.

:goodposting: Can't speak to any of the specific players, but a lot of needs addressed here. I've heard folks mention Hardy for the Bills' first pick, so to get him in the second would be very nice. I also love the D-line depth picks and the C pick.11. The only player I'm uncertain of is TE Cottom. Don't know too much about the guy. Is he more of a receiving TE?Chris Ellis and Pollak are talented enough to eventually become starters in this league (especially on our team). The DE spot across from Schobel is being held down decently by Kelsay/Denny, but I could see Ellis pushing them or at least be great depth at the position. And right now our starting center is Fowler and I don't think he will be that difficult to replace. The more i think about it, this draft would almost be too good for it to actually happen but I like seeing it right now. :banned:

30. Green Bay Packers- Antoine Cason CB, Arizona

25 (56) Green Bay Packers (from Cle)- Cliff Avril OLB, Purdue

29 (60) Green Bay Packers- Fred Davis TE, USC

27 (91) Green Bay Packers- Oneil Cousin OT, UTEP

29 (128)Green Bay Packers- Erik Ainge QB, Tennessee

36 (135)Green Bay Packers (Comp Pick)- King Dunlap OT, Auburn

27 (162) Green Bay Packers- Drew Radovich G, USC

I think your picks would make sense for GB... too much sense. GB is getting old at CB and T... and G is unproven... they need a TE... and backup QB would be nice.

I'll try to do my best Ted Thompson impression:

Round 1: I will go in the minority here and say Thompson won't take a CB round 1. I think that pick just makes too much sense. Thompson does anything but what's expected. DE is a major depth problem for them with BOTH of their starting DEs FA after this season. I'm willing to bet they sign Kampman, but KGB will require too much money for a pass-only lineman (as he already is). I see them beef up the DL AGAIN with a 1st round DE. I mean, we saw him take Harrell last year when DT really wasn't a huge issue, but he predicted Williams fleeing for more money, which he was right on. I wouldn't be surprised to see them grab Brohm either. If Rodgers can't live up to the GB standard, his contract is up in 2 years... gives enough time to groom a QB like Brohm to step right in with no down time like most teams go through.

Round 2.1: I think you hit this one right on the head. I definately see Thompson going for LB help. I think the signing of Chillar helps, so maybe he doesn't go LB until the second day. Don't be surprised to see them go T at this spot. T is an area in need of some depth.

Round 2.2: If they go DE and T with the previous 2 picks, this is where you see them grab a CB

Round 3: You have the right idea on a T, but I think Thompson values OL too much to wait until round 3, which is why I say he takes one round 2. If he does not grab one round 2, this will definately be right on. But, if he goes the way I've been predicting, I'd bet he goes TE with this pick. It's an area of need that needs to be addressed day 1

Round 4.1: Love that pick for Ainge. I won't argue one bit if we can get him round 4. I'm big on him

Round 4.2: I think TT takes two tackles in this draft, though round 4 may be too high. You may see him try to address G with this pick in hopes to get a startable G

Round 5: With this pick TT will probably take his second T. I wouldn't be surprised to see him trade down to maybe pick up another 7th and a lower 5. But I see him taking a T here.

Round 7 (not included): I see them rounding out the draft with a FB. FB was a huge area of need for GB last year and I wouldn't be surprised to see them even go after one with their 2nd 4th rounder to try and land a startable FB. But I see them closing out their draft with someone who can block for Grant.

Our ideas of GB don't differ much. From an outsider's perspective you did an awesome job addressing GBs needs. I think you just don't know TT well enough to know that he will piss everyone off after the draft, then come December everyone will be very happy with his picks. It happens every year and its about time people trust him. He'll trade down, take depth for BPA while ignoring a "need for depth." But in the end I think you have the right idea, just wrong order

1) St Louis Rams- Chris Long DE, Virginia1. Miami Dolphins- Jake Long OT, Michigan

Head Coach Bill Parcells... I mean Puppet Master

Leonard Little’s best days may be behind him, plus their lacking a true speed pass rusher to get to the quarterback.

love this pick

2) (33) St Louis Rams- Sam Baker OT, USC

would like this pick

3) (65) St Louis Rams- Andre Caldwell WR, Florida

one Caldwell is enough

4) (101)St. Louis Rams – Craig Steltz S, LSU

descent fourth round pick but I donlt care for it

5) (137) St. Louis Rams-John Sullivan, C-Notre Same

If we got him in the fifth I'd be estatic. I'd think about taking him in the third and definetly the fourth

6) (168) St. Louis Rams-DJ Wolfe SS, Oklahoma

don't know too much about him but we could use a SS

24. Tennessee Titans- Limas Sweed WR, TexasVince Young and Limas Sweed played well together down in Texas. Drafting a familiar face could help Vince Young in the passing game. Besides the connection, Sweed, who draws comparisons to a taller Andre Johnson, should step in and start week 1.
Seems to be a popular pick, but the "familiar face" angle seems overblown.

Hey PJ...

No Keglar? Just returned to town after a visit with Titans.

Mayock's got him at his #4 OLB

Sorry, but I just popped in to say I just can't put much stock in this draft. First, who the hell does a 6 rounder and the fact that th OP referred to himself in the 3rd person in the thread title....

10. New Orleans Saints- Keith Rivers OLB, USCHere’s the deal. The Saints need a CB, but with Rivers still on the board, they couldn’t pass up. Scott Fujita is ok, Shane Shanle is eh. Rivers would be a huge upgrade at this position.
I'm not going to necessarily argue the pick in this mock draft. Maybe just the rationale needs fine tuning...The Saints have Fujita, Vilma and Morgan penciled in as starters at LB this year. Shanle and Simoneau are backups now. The pressing need for LB isn't there, I think.

Absolutely love the draft from a Bills fan perspective.

Very nice thought. :lmao: That's gotta take alot of work to put out something like that.
:lmao: Can't speak to any of the specific players, but a lot of needs addressed here. I've heard folks mention Hardy for the Bills' first pick, so to get him in the second would be very nice. I also love the D-line depth picks and the C pick.11. Buffalo Bills- Dominique Rogers-Cromartie CB, Tennessee State

(41) Buffalo Bills- James Hardy WR, Indiana

(72) Buffalo Bills- Brad Cottom TE, Tennessee

(114) Buffalo Bills- Chris Ellis DE, Virginia Tech

(132) Buffalo Bills (Comp pick)- Mike Pollak C, Arizona State

(147) Buffalo Bills- Geno Hayes OLB, Florida State

(179) Buffalo Bills- Marcus Harrison DT, Arkansas
Well done here. The Bills did end up nabbing Hardy in the 2nd, and took Ellis in the 3rd. They also took the top rated CB off the board at the time, but it turned out to be McKelvin rather than R-C.
