After weeks of research and hours to put this damn thing together (during my overnight shift of course, I feel better knowing I got paid while I speant 7 hours on it). It's finally complete. I gave up after the 7th round. Sorry guys. I know you were all dying to know who Mr.Irrelevant was.
PJ's 6 round Mock draft
1. Miami Dolphins- Jake Long OT, Michigan
Head Coach Bill Parcells... I mean Puppet Master Bill Parcells and the Fins have begun contract negotiations with the big guy out of Michigan. There is a huge chance this is nothing more then a bluff, but since fixing the offensive line seems to be one of their top priorities, I wouldn’t be surprised the pick goes through. It’s hard to evaluate the rest of the offense without a solid offensive line.
2. St Louis Rams- Chris Long DE, Virginia
Leonard Little’s best days may be behind him, plus their lacking a true speed pass rusher to get to the quarterback.
3. Atlanta Falcons- Glenn Dorsey DT, LSU
With Rod Coleman gone, their interior defensive line blows.
4. Oakland Raiders- Vernon Gholston DE, Ohio State
By drafting the physical specimen, the Raiders will get one of the best pass rushers in the draft to line up opposite Burgess.
5. KC Chiefs- Ryan Clady OT, Boise State
Clady should be able to step in and fill that glairing need at Left Tackle. They’re very tempted to shore up the defensive line by picking Ellis, but people are getting impatient with my old pal Herm. The safer choice of the two would be Left Tackle.
6. NY Jets- Darren McFadden RB, Arkansas
If you’ve seen my first mock and the arguments after, I was adamant on Dallas trading up to get him. Now that Gholston’s off the board, there is no need for me to fight it anymore. McFadden will rock the Green and White next season. Hopefully after the free agent acquisitions and drafting the dynamic running back, people will actually fear us rather then laugh at us. He’ll be a perfect compliment to Thomas Jones. As much as I like Leon, this could be a good thing. He’ll have fresh legs in the return game. Add a healed Justin Miller to that mix and we’ll have an exciting Kick Return team.
7. New England Patriots- Leodis McKelvin CB, Troy
After losing Asante Samuel, Randall Gay, and Eugene Wilson, the secondary could use both talent and depth.
8 Baltimore Ravens- Matt Ryan QB, Boston College
With Brian Billick gone, the Kyle Boller experiment should be over. I’m kind of rooting for Troy Smith to succeed, but the chances of that happening are slim. Matt Ryan has definite franchise potential, something the Ravens haven’t had since it’s inauguration. CB is another major need, but this class is deep enough to wait on one later in the draft.
9. Cincinnati Bengals- Sedrik Ellis DT, USC
Ellis should immediately step into the starting role next to Peko on the interior D-line.
10. New Orleans Saints- Keith Rivers OLB, USC
Here’s the deal. The Saints need a CB, but with Rivers still on the board, they couldn’t pass up. Scott Fujita is ok, Shane Shanle is eh. Rivers would be a huge upgrade at this position.
11. Buffalo Bills- Dominique Rogers-Cromartie CB, Tennessee State
The Bills ranked 28th in pass defense so they need to revamp their secondary. The 6’1 small school stand out could be a dangerous threat to any team looking to pass his way.
12. Denver Broncos- Chris Williams OT, Vanderbuilt
After former starter Matt Lepsis announced his retirement, former MTV “True Life: I Want the Perfect Body” and Notre Dame star Ryan Harris is at the top of the depth chart. Many are questioning whether he’s starter material. They may consider adding depth and competition to the most crucial spot on the offensive line. I thought about trading up to the number 8 spot to acquire the big Defensive Tackle Ellis, but since they’re lacking a 3rd round pick and had other needs, I figured giving up picks wouldn’t be too wise.
13. Carolina Panthers- Jeff Otah OT, Pittsburgh
After making a strong presence at his pro day, the Panthers decide to move Travelle Wharton to guard and Jordan Gross to LT and plug Otah into the RT spot to solidify the offensive line.
14. Chicago Bears- Brandon Albert OG/OT, Virginia
The big versatile lineman would be a breath of fresh air being plugged into such a depleted offensive line.
15. Detroit Lions- Rashard Mendenhall RB, Illinois
A Mendenhall/ Tatum Bell combo could scare many in that NFC North division.
16. Arizona Cardinals- Mike Jenkins CB, South Florida
Eric Green and Rod Hood aren’t that great and the Cardinals need a ball hawk in that secondary immediately. Opposing quarterbacks will be shaking in their cleats passing against Jenkins and Rolle.
17. Minnesota Vikings- Derrick Harvey DE, Florida
With Kenechi Udeze’s unfortunate disease and Erasmus James unfortunately not playing up to his hype, the Vikings are in need of a pass rusher. Lucky for them, Harvey managed to slip right into their laps.
18. Houston Texans- Jonathan Stewart RB, Oregon
Yes they do have Ahman Green, Chris Brown and Darius Walker, but Stewarts skills would be too hard for them to pass up.
19. Philadelphia Eagles- Malcom Kelly WR, Oklahoma
McNabb has been crying for a big playmaking possession WR. Kelly is just that. The guy dropped one pass over the last 2 years.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- DeSean Jackson WR/KR, Cal
The Bucs are looking for a speedy playmaker and Jackson fits that mold perfectly. He was actually down in Tampa Bay recently meeting with the front office, Gruden, the WRs coach, the special teams coach, the offensive coordinator, and the water boy.
21. Washington Redskins- Philip Merling DE, Clemson
The skins are in need of a pass rusher opposite Andre Carter.
22. Dallas Cowboys (from Cleveland)- Devin Thomas WR, Michigan State
Thomas will add youth to the aging WR corps.
23. Pittsburgh Steelers- Gosder Cherilus OT, Boston College
If they want to get back to the playoffs, they need to fix that line pronto. Even my Jets, whose pass rush was mediocre at best, looked amazing against them.
24. Tennessee Titans- Limas Sweed WR, Texas
Vince Young and Limas Sweed played well together down in Texas. Drafting a familiar face could help Vince Young in the passing game. Besides the connection, Sweed, who draws comparisons to a taller Andre Johnson, should step in and start week 1.
25. Seattle Seahawks- Kentwan Balmer DT, North Carolina
The Seahawks lack depth after Chuck Darby’s departure.
26. Jacksonville Jaguars- Lawrence Jackson DE, USC
After McCray’s departure, the Defensive End position needs immediate attention.
27. *TRADE (mock simulation)* Atlanta Falcons (from San Diego for picks 34 (2nd round), 103 (4thround), and 172 (6th round)- Brian Brohm, QB
Charger’s GM AJ Smith has been vocal about looking to trade out for more picks. Although the Falcons are giving up 2 extra picks, they still have 9 total selections (6 of those in the first 3 rounds). Some argue Brohm is the best QB in this draft, and after the whole Vick fiasco, ATL was stuck playing QB roulette between Harrington, Leftwhich, and Chris Redman. They need a true franchise QB, and Brohm could win that job easily.
28. Dallas Cowboys-Aquib Talib CB, Kansas
Even if Pac Man Jones gets traded and permission to play, they still need help at corner.
29. SF 49ers (from IND)- Quinton Groves OLB, Auburn
Groves has that expolosive quickness and outstanding suddenness to wreck havoc in opposing offense’s backfield. Drawing comparisons to Demarcus Ware, he should be a huge improvement over the underperforming Tully Banta-Cain.
30. Green Bay Packers- Antoine Cason CB, Arizona
This is more for depth since Al Harris and Charles Woodson showed signs of wear last season.
31. New York Giants- Kenny Phillips FS, Miami
The Giants had a tough choice in taking the big Penn State LB Dan Connor or the FS Kenny Phillips. They ended up taking Phillips who should be the successor to Gabril Wilson at free safety.
