A good plan ruined (1 Viewer)

So at the end of the year I usually take a look to see what really happened and then try to figure out why I missed it and if it'll happen again next year. Then I start my plan. Often times it gets ruined in the offseason.

I had 2 guys I spent a lot of time on and both plans got ruined. I was trying to lock down a few diamonds in the rough. The guys who aren't sexy, but just continue to sneak in strong performances.

I worked on Jamal Charles, I know a lot of folks know about him, but in my ppr league he didn't carry a lot of support and got traded around. I also looked at Fred Jackson. Both young, over 1000 season, not flashy, and good receivers. Sure enough Jackson is joined by the golden boy Spiller and Charles gets to split with a similar looking gent T, Jones. I don't want to waste my research and will now reproject who to target.

Now what to make of the mess. Buf figured out that Jackson was really their guy a few weeks after Lynch came back. So he'll be in full stride this season and I can hope Spiller takes a while to fit in. Charles only has Jones to contend with and he has youth over Jones.

So I guess this is my new take. If I get a top RB in my drafts I can pickup Charles and be somewhat confident that between the 2 I will be able to win the early games and I have a better chance to get value out of Charles in the home stretch and the playoffs. If I reach for a top WR and end up without a top tier RB I can grab Jackson who will probably have a better return on investment earlier in the season.

The problem is Charles is ranked a little to high and that plan might not work.

Do you have any other plans that have been ruined and reworked? Anyone else you can suggest I plug into the model instead of Charles (specifically with a later in the season payoff)?

Cheers

You have to adjust on the fly regardless of your intended plan. It only takes one owner to ruin a plan that is that specific. You need a general idea of what you want to do, but you have to be ready and willing to change your plan as needed. The draft will dictate what you do within your plans, but you can't depend on everything falling a certain way.

Jackson isn't young my friend

Justin Forsett would have been GOLD in terms of value if the Seahawks didn't waive Lendale. I had no confidence in Lendale to carry that running game and Forsett would have been starting in October. Now though I'm seeing him as high as Round 5/6. Don't like that value for him now...prior to - he was Round 8/9.

Move along.

Thanks for the value add. As you can see I'm doing some research a little before the draft and now adjusting. I was looking to see if anyone had done similar research and had any leads. Some folks in here have some good takes on players, which is what I was looking for. Forsette was exciting for a while and I think he might still be a value at his current ADP. I'll keep looking.

I think you took this incorrectly. You stated you had an off-season "plan". He pointe dout that that "plan" was so specific that it had no chance of success. WE can talk about specific players, but your question was about "PLAN", and he correctly pointed out that "PLAN" should NEVER be so specific as to be destroyed by the "loss" of only one or two players.

Sort of. He's young in mileage. Not years.
So is Chester Taylor lol.I just wanted to make sure he knew that Jackson is 29.
I'm just here reading the thread, but I didn't know that. Thanks. I have a habit of thinking of guys' ages in relation to how long they're on my radar screen; not how old they actually are. I need to pay more attention to that.Of course, I don't play dynasty. If I did, it probably would have self-corrected by now.

Every year I massage, work, and cajole my roster to get it the way that I want it. And every offseason, free agency and the draft ruin my plans.

Ah. I didn't see it that way, That wasn't my intent, but I cam see how that would be inferred. My appologies and I agree that is stupid.
