I have Bay in an 11 (5x5 w/OBP instead of BA) NL only league. Under our rules, you can keep a hitter for the remainder of the season if traded to the AL, or release him and use his salary for bidding on free agents. Like Manny.

I've got a lot of starting pitching (I've moved all-in for this season) - Zambrano, Santana, Peavy, Oswalt, Sheets, Sabathia. Frankly, I think I need all of them to gain points in Ks and WHIP. I'm currently in third and moving up, but I'm concerned that the top 2 teams will get Manny from the winning bidder. The guy currently with the most to bid is trying to play for fourth - doesn't have a chance IMO, and I'm afraid he'll dump his talent in a few weeks.

Do I:

A. Stand pat and use Bay's stats, letting someone else get Manny's stats, possibly.

B. Trade a starting pitcher for Manny when he wins him.

C. Drop Bay, using his salary to catapault me to the top of the bidding wars. Essentially a Bay/Ramirez swap for me, but nobody else improves either.

I'm leaning towards C. One, I can be sure nobody adds Manny, even if LA for Manny may be worse than Bay in Fenway.

Thoughts?

By the way, if someone recognizes me from my username, it's not me. It's just a coincidence.

If you were 100% sure that you'd get Manny, "C" is really the only logical choice. If you let Manny go to your competitors, it takes control of your season out of your hands. By grabbing Manny, you're not losing anything while making sure your competitors don't gain anything.(plus, Manny is essentially in a 'contract' year...he's going to be an offensive machine these last two months)

100% in agreement.

A forgotten fourth option - take a chance I can get Kotchman. Possible with the amount of $$$ I've got, but I suspect someone else will take him. There's two or three teams with more $$$ than I have, although with dropping Bay I'll jump to first. I think it might be an unexpected move, as well. Which is nice.
