a question about compensation for a job (1 Viewer)

The average human walks 3-4 mph. If someone was doing a job that required them to walk for 5 hours per day, 15-20 miles per day, in summer weather what do you think would be a fair daily wage?

$50 at least per day or more?

$10 per hour and I have to move? I wouldn't get off the couch for less than $20/hr.

This is a good time to learn that wages are not directly associated with the amount of physical labor it requires. They're directly associated with the # of people who can effectively do the job.

If anyone is curious, some of you mentioned I should get a job giving out flyers. I know two people with local businesses, one being my uncle, so I reached out and they are interested. Im negotiating prices with each.

Ive known people who have done this work and they do just enough to make it look good and dump the rest in the trash. I wont do that because I know these guys. They are both cheapskates so im trying to figure out whats fair.

Not many people in this case, and not many who would do the right thing

What is the current minimum wage? for comparative purposes.
Less than $9. Id be getting 10 an hour for some pretty grueling labor
We've seen your pictures. You should seriously consider the physical labor ...and salads.
Now you are stretching too much for an insult. Im 6 foot 200 and muscular, that was evident in the photos.

You should try to make the insults somewhat believable.

 Grueling  $10/hr for a job that literally any able bodied person can do. I'd consider that more than fair.
Walking nearly 20 miles is easy for you?
It's not that difficult; you're walking. The distance might be tough for the first couple of days, but I'm pretty sure you'll adapt quickly.

Than you should quit whining about walking since you are such a physical specimen. This should be a walk through the park.

It wont be a walk in the park any way you slice it. Im not as worried about my undurance as I am the wear and tear on the feat because it will take at least 3 days each to cover several nearby neighborhoods

Never said I was a specimen but I am certainly not out of shape.

By those pics you are carrying abour 20 lbs of nuts in those cheeks then mr. atlas.

What about your bike?
If I had one I couldnt use it. Has to be on foot. These arent newspapers
Flyers are harder to carry than newspapers? What about a car? If you don't think you can do this job why are you posting this crap here?
The newdpapers will weigh more but I could throw them. The flyers have to be placed on each door so they dont blow away.

Im trying to figure out what to charge

I have never exaggerated my physique but I am not out of shape or significantly overweight. 200 pounds of more muscle than fat is pretty good.

Im a 36 waist

Im saying, just try to be.realistic with your insults. Im trying to help you

Don't worry about the initial wage. Get hired then call the Teamsters and go on strike for better wages and benefits.

Jesus, you can even find an excuse not to walk.
Im not looking for an excuse not to walk, im trying to figure out a fair price.15-20 miles in a row is a lot so dont pretend it isnt
And why do you think they will negotiate with you?
Because I already am negotiating with them.

I see them both again monday and so far I think $50 a day is as low as I may go and i appreciate some other opinions before I decide what to do

YOU'RE WALKING AND PUTTING FLYERS ON DOORS. Minimum wage.
If they just hired some teenager off the street they wont do the right thing and will slack off. Its worth more than minimum wage to have me do it with assurance that every inch of the specified area will be covered.

A couple hundred bucks each isnt a lot for exposure to a few thousand potential customers.

Tell them all your concerns and report back to us. Flex your guns too. That may help.

Stand your ground man. You might be the best thing to ever happen to them.
