A Review of the First Round (1 Viewer)

Great read, Matt. Excellent stuff - nice to see you have the stones to call out picks you don't care for and then back it up.

:bag:

I guess there's no extra Jets slant being the NY Times?

Jets dynamic offense? Boy, I hope so. Sanchez still has a long way to go IMO starting with actual running and making it to practice.

I agree with your assessment that Best is an all around better RB than Spiller. Nice to see that at least 1 other person agrees with me. :goodposting:

Also, why does SF trade up 2 spots to get ahead of Miami to get Anthony Davis? Doesn't make sense to me, but maybe they know something I don't.... He should have been available at their pick... threw away a 4th rounder IMO.

This same question came up when the Lions traded up for Best and the answer is because they did not want to chance someone trading in front of them and taking Davis. They obviously wanted him bad enough to make this trade.

Exactly right. There's a lot of radio banter this morning in Detroit about if the Lions really needed to move up to get Best. IMO, the question isn't really if, but rather how badly a team wants that player. In the Lion's case, Schwartz said that Best was the highest rated player on their board (and had been for a few picks). They didn't want to miss on him, so they moved up to make sure they got the player they were targetting. It's a matter of strategy and executing on that strategy, as opposed to letting the chips fall where they may and hoping it works out. Hope is not a plan. While I'm not a huge Lions homer, I do live in the area, and I have to say that Schwartz has consistently impressed me. He may not be right, and time will tell, but he does have a plan, a methodology for player procurement and he seems to be coordinating well with Tom Lewand and Martin Mayhew to execute that plan. I wish them the best.
