A twist on the auction style draft (1 Viewer)

Was reading a thread, and it came to me. Wonder if this would work or not. Say, for example, it's a pay league with $100 per team. You then set your cap at $100 and begin drafting. No owner is allowed to bid more than what they have remaining from their $100 cap (for example, you can't bid $2 on David Carr if you only have $1 left). Then, after the draft ends, each owner pays only the amount they paid for their team.

This would reward those owners who got the best bang for their buck. It would be great to see a league where the guy who cleans house only used up $50 of his cap space. Not only would he save $50 from the start, but he could talk smack for years to come.

I've seen it done...

Salary Cap was $150 but your franchise fee was the total amount of your bids taken.....

After a couple of seasons...nobody really cared about paying less...

Everyone would GLADLY pay the entire cap if it meant winning...

Just popped into my head - what if you assigned a multiplier of (1 - % of cap spent)? e.g, spend 90% of your cap, your scores are multiplied by 1.1; spend 80% and it's 1.2.I haven't thought it through, so it may be a really bad idea.

How do you break ties on the $max bids on LT2?

As others have mentioned I don't really see it as enough of an incentive.

How about everyone paying the $100 and having that much to spend, but the remainder of what you don't use in the auction is added to your $100 FAAB?

I was asked to be in a league like this once, but to make it really mean something the cap on draft night was $400. I decided that there was no way that I would part with $400 to do this so I said "no," but it sounded interesting.
