About Player rankings and Top 250 going forward. (1 Viewer)

Da Guru

Fair & Balanced
I used to do a FF show at the University of Michigan, and still contribute at times to WDFN in Detroit for their show.

What I have learned is that "most" people only want rankings to confirm what they think will happen. I used to get calls all the time debating where I ranked players.

People always over value their own players, and when they are ranked low they want to dispute it.

Rankings are always matchup based, yet many times things happen in games that you can`t predict.

That is why when I did rankings I always put in a disclaimer "These ranking are based on the way I feel the games will play out" Of course about half the time I was wrong..or more than half. As most rankings are.

The bottom line is do your homework, look at the rankings as a guide..not Gospel...and go with your GUT!

That is the good thing about FF..you have the final say.

never fall in love with your fantasy players (unless it's LT2 or a girl from one of "those" sites).

fbg does a pretty good job overall with their projections -- well worth the money. but everything else they do makes the subscription worth far more than what we pay.

the variation in play (and the resulting variation in fantasy points) is large compared with the expected points -- meaning that there can be significant differences from actual and projected results, even with the best forecasting models.

and finally, guru -- go blue (from another wolverine...who used to teach stats there!).

Also, don't be afraid to go out on limbs. The surprises are what separate a decent season from a championship season.

Agree. At the same time, you know your players better than the average guy making rankings - he might not have your players, and yet has to rank them. That's why when your guy who is a WR2 is coming on, playing a defense that gives up points to a WR2, assume that your homework is better than that of the rankings!

The guys who do rankings simple can't look into the history, defensive rank against that position, etc for EVERY player they rank.

this line of thinking nearly had me put in Chris Henry for Antonio Gates as my WR3... i thought i was wrong too when Henry jumped out to a quick start.in general i agree though

That is the key.Just yesterday I inserted the Saints fullback Carney into my lineup on a whim..............just kidding.

if you're not active in waiver wire/trades you dont have much of a chance

I was the guy who drafted jordan in rd.1, droughns in rd.4, galloway in rd.5, porter in rd.6 (didn't do any homework there), roddy white in rd.7
