Adrian Peterson minor injury (1 Viewer)

The Vikings are calling RB Adrian Peterson’s injury a left hip pointer and say he is day-to-day. Apparently the injury is not as serious as it first appeared but it seems pretty unlikely Peterson will participate in the Friday or Saturday practices against Kansas City. RB Chester Taylor (bruised forearm) also seems likely to miss the event.

Medical officials originally seemed to be looking at Peterson’s left ankle, but Peterson said the injury occurred when he was elbowed in the hip area during a pass reception.

“It’s really not as serious as I thought,” Peterson said. “It was kind of painful at first, but I shook it off. It’s not that big of a deal.”

Meanwhile, CB Ronyell Whitaker was carted off the field after injury his lower left leg. Initial reports, according to defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, were that Whitaker had suffered a sprained ankle. More tests are planned.

I had a hip pointer and played on it. If he was able to weight bear on it he'll be fine. The bad ones you can't put any weight on.

I would wager the average NFL player can handle alot more pain than you can. Bo was able to walk on his hip injury when it happened IIRC.Olandis Gary played a game after tearing his ACL.The list goes on....

And so it begins.....
Judging from your choice of avatar, your parents said the same about you when you were born.Lets let him get a season or two under his belt before labeling him injury prone. You won't see him sitting with minor injuries.

I'm sure they can. But I'm also in the medical field and now how the average hip pointer reacts. No way in hell did a hip pointer ruin Bo's career. I'd almost guarantee it was a hip subluxation/dislocation. Hip pointers are bone bruises...they heal, but are painful.

As we all know by now preseason injuries are a great thing for a RB. Now he can rest a bit in the preseason and be less likely to hit that rookie wall later on.

All in all great news, bump him up your draft board a few notches.

No one said a hip pointer ruined Bo's career. They said his injury was originally misdiagnosed as a hip pointer. That is what some people concerned- that perhaps this injury is being misdiagnosed.

Hip pointers are very common in football. Usually sustained from a helmet to iliac crest impact. He'll be fine.
Nothing from his college career injury history has shown that "He'll be fine".I have avoided drafting him in all leagues, there is no one I am more worried aboutpotential serious injury, than Adrian Peterson.good luck to all who own him.

If I recall correctly, Bo told the trainers he dislocated his hip, and he popped it back in, but they said it was physically impossible for him to had reloacted a displace hip, and that it was probably a severe hip pointer.Later they determined he needed surgery on the hip, and following the surgery it was discovered he suffered from bone necrosis. The hip was replaced, and Bo came back to play a couple of seasons with the White Sox and Angels (? not sure about the teams) but never played footballa again. All I'm saying is that alot of injuries are initially diagnosed as "nothing serious" and turn out to be worse that originally thought.Duce Staleys' foot sprain was plantar faciaitis for instance.Terrell Davis simple ACL developed into much more.Garrison Hearst's ACL developed into much more. And the list could go on...

Pretty closed minded I think, Paul.It is fine to not be high on him due to injury concerns, but should he shake the freak injury bug over his NFL career this guy has the tools to be a an absolute monster. He is a rare blend of power and speed. To avoid him at all costs is a mistake, imo.

Got ya. And I'm saying his hip isn't dislocated by what I've read is all, as he was elbowed in the hip area. And elbow would not dislocate his hip, usually an ackward tackle or foot planting wrong would do so...I'm targetting him heavily in my dynasty league. He's one of the most talented backs I've seen come out of college....and has a great OL to run behind should he stay healthy.

Maybe I'm a bit closed minded Kurt, but I place a slightly lower value on AP because his injury history is a major concern to me.IMO, it's not a matter of if Peterson will sustain another major injury, but rather, when.

I've often wondered if Bo Jackson went into retirement mode because of (1) the amount of money he had in the bank, and (2) his lack of desire to keep playing football

I understand the injury risk, but to avoid someone with All-World talent seems like a mistake if he slips in a draft.
