ADRIAN PETERSON (1 Viewer)

From what I saw he looked just as bad.

The SD defense is BETTER than the Chicago DEF.

It's painfully obvious that Benson has a fumbling problem. As long as his backup keeps fumbling just as much as him there won't be a change.

The franchise made a big commitment to Benson, so I think the leash is longer than many expect. That said, if Peterson keeps outperforming him over the next several weeks and the team is not playing well to boot, a change could be made.

Benson owner.. HAHAHBuddy Benson was horrible. Petterson was much better. He hit holes quicker and made better decisions Obviously you didn't watch game.

That Adrian Peterson is just not that good. He's not taking Benson's job today, tomorrow, or in November.
I agree but if Cedric Benson continues to play horribly he could see a lot more carries.Next week will be very telling to me. It's one thing to get shut down by the Chargers. If it happens in the Chiefs game then there'll be some major problems.

Did you just say that the SD defense is better than the Chicago D? Tomlinson is the best running back in the league, and the Bears held him to 25 yards on 17 carries. Your vaunted Chargers D allowed Benson to gain more yards than LT. The Chargers are pretty good defensively, but the Bears D just demonstrated that they are the best D in the league. The worst enemy for the Bears D isn't the opposing offense, it is their own offense.

Benson put up 42 against an awsome rush Def. He did just about what I thought he would put up which was why I sat him. If you played him and thought he was going you must have been dreaming. It's a good thing LT can throw or he would be in danger of losing his job as well since he only rushed for 25.

I have Benson and was not expecting anything from hiom this week - you dont write a guy off after facing such a good defense!

Next week against a bad Chiefs team will make Benson owners very happy. SD was a tough matchup for the Bears. I think the problem is more the QB than the RB. Benson could have played better but Grossman was not good yesterday.

doesn't AP have a career YPC of 4.7?
AP replaces Benson about the same time Leonard replaces Jackson in ST Louis. Using some of you guys' thinking, Leonard is better than SJax.
Nope, not remotely close. Sjax is a proven stud who has done it for a couple years now, while Leonard is a rookie who's proven nothing. Benson has also proven nothing, and has been suspect his entire time in the NFL, whereas Peterson has produced for years with his limited opportunities. I think it's unlikely that Peterson ever totally takes over this year, but it seems like it's very possible that Peterson can earn himself a 50/50 split. Benson has never really impressed after 2 years of limited work, and his debut as the feature back was pretty terrible. Poor ypc, fumble, got dinged up - all the things you fear Benson will give you.

From a Benson owner , what if next week Benson is 20 for 55 and a fumble will it be Grossman's fault .Wait and see next week but Benson has nt shown any signs of being a good RB in two years and 1 game .

AP is a better football player than Benson....Benson has more talent, but AP is a better football player.

AP will take over most likely only if Benson gets injured because of the investment they have in Benson. I could easily see the carries get a lot more divided up if Benson continues to look bad.

The same week Griese takes over for Grossman.
Most intelligent post of the thread, right here. Not gonna happen.
The bottom line is which player gives the team the best chance to win. If Benson stinks up the field but the Bears keep winning, I'll agree there won't be a change but should the team start losing, all bets are off. This is a Superbowl caliber team and they're not going to let Benson screw that up for them.

Neither was particularly impressive. A lot had to do with the D. A lot was them just being "blah."

It's Benson's job though. Deal with it.

Correction, this is a Super Bowl caliber Defense and ST. Their offense sucks eggs!!!

Sure, if your definitions include "fumbling three times as often".

Wow I talk about how as a RB he looked much better and you bring up history of fumbling. Benson had ZERO vision and couldn't a hole for his life. Mean while Peterson showed a lot of agility. Benson might have more talent but Peterson looks better on the field. This continues Benson will start losing more carries.

You cant tell me LT looked better.... How many times did LT get blown up in the backfield week 1?? I'm not saying Benson did better... in fact... he is not in my lineup week 2 or until he does show me something.... Why arent there any statements about Michael Turner taking over for LT in week 2?? aside from the td pass play... he (LT) looked very mediocre Sunday... maybe he's lost a step??? LOL j/k

Did you just compare LT & Turner's situation to Benson & Adrian Peterson's? :lmao:

Weird how people are constantly all over the place on this subject. I'm a die hard Bears homer and I can't imagine Adrian Peterson taking Benson's job (barring injury). I drafted Benson 22nd in my redraft and also picked up Adrian Peterson late --not because Adrian Peterson has the chance to take his starting job, but because Benson has had a few minor injuries over the past 2 years and I could use Adrian as a fill in if this happens.

Haha...please show me the stat lines of him producing for years. The guy has never had over 100 carries in a season in the NFL.

My post from another of the gazillion similiar threads...

I just have to question all of those that are so high on Adrian Peterson and why they think he will take over so quickly for Benson. Its not like Peterson hasn't had some sort of chance over the last FIVE years.

2002 - Anthony Thomas and Leon Johnson both averaging under 3.5 YPC and Peterson still only got 19 carries on the season.

2003 - A year after Thomas was dreadful he still get 240+ carries and even Brock Forsey sees more time that Peterson.

2004 - Thomas Jones, who had been kicked around the league a few times already, gets 240 carries and Thomas still got 122 carries at his 3.3 YPC average... Peterson just 6 carries.

2005 - Peterson averages 5.1 YPC but still only gets 79 carries on the season

2006 - Even after the big average YPC on '05 Peterson gets a whopping 10 carries in '06 while Benson and Jones see all the work.

I still don't know how I feel on Benson, but I don't see how he won't get 300 carries if he does not get injured. Sure, Peterson will get some carries because of how much the Bears run the ball but what exactly over the last 5 years have the Bears shown that makes you think that Peterson is all of the sudden going to take over as a starter?

Most of the discussion on Sirius has been more about Benson's lack of protection vs his running ability. I am not sure who cited the fact that they can not just insert AP when they pass because clearly the defense would know when they will pass and run.

I am neither a AP or Benson owner but at this point this is certainly a situation to watch.

Hey gferrell20, Is there any chance that Peterson can become the goal line back? I have him stashed deep on my roster and I am in a TD only league so that type of back is more valuable in those types of leagues. I honestly don't know a whole lot about Peterson, so as a Bears homer I thought you might know.

$20 says Peterson doesn't start in week 3 (barring injury). Who wants it?

Gimme a break already. 1 game, vs one of the best D's in the league, and it's time to panic. Sometimes these forums are like listening to WEEI after the Red Sox lose their 1st game of the year.

Again, the myth of the Chicago offense being bad.Last year they finished 15th in yardage, 2nd in total points. Of course some of those points did come from DEF and ST, but even without that, here are the numbers:Rushing Yds - 15thRushing TDs - 11thPassing Yds - 14thPassing TDs - 8thSo middle of the pack in total offensive yardage, and borderline top 10 in offensive scoring. I'm not saying they're Indy or anything, but they're offense hardly "sucks".Most of the pieces on offense are identical. All the offensive line returned, same receivers, plus Hester in limited action on offense, added Olsen to the mix at TE, once healthy, which gives them another good weapon that should help create some mismatches. And of course, the only major change otherwise is T. Jones leaving, and Benson taking over as the primary back, which is a concern, but I think the jury is still out on that one (at least for a few more weeks).
